Hate to do this...moving the court...

I'm all about solutions.

There is no good solution for getting it done after collecting, what I will estimate to be, $4m - $5m in donations. And actually it is called a donation for preferred seating.

That setup doesn't add seats. They still wouldn't be able to sell tix in the other end zone. And it makes seats worse for many.

It does add seats. Absolutely it does. You'd have at least two more complete sections and probably two smaller partial sections. And a lot more on the floor. It would not allow seats to be sold in the end zone - that is correct. And it would make seats worse for many, but for those poor schlubs up in the top tiers (especially those way up top), it wouldn't be much worse. Those seats are pretty bad already for watching a game. They would just be a little more bad.

And don't misjudge me here. I'm not advocating for this at all. I was just curious to see what the option other than using the full stadium could be.

What seats does it add? What sections that aren't currently sold?

How non-donors view donors in the argument about moving the court:

How donors see the program without them should they be screwed out of their seats:

I think this about sums up the argument.

Based on this photo -

get_chart.aspx

And based on review of the rendering done previously

It looks like they could sell all of the rest of 116 and 101 and then half of 117 and half of 130. Then they could sell all of 320 and 336, and probably some more long range view tix in 335 and 321.

And those junky floor seats that would be similar to the ones sold at the Final Four last year.

They already sell all of 320 and 336 when we get the big crowds like Duke. Those pics don't mean they don't sell certain sections/seats. Most of 101 and 116 now get sold. People used to move down there from long range so they decided to start selling them. 335 and 321 also get sold when we have 30k. In fact for Duke and the 33k crowds they sell all the way down to 323 and 333 in the upper deck.

You'll get a handful in 117 and 130 which is minimal in the grand scheme. Floor seats more than 3-4 rows deep like now with no rise is a non starter. It's not a concert with a raised stage.

So we might be able to add 500-1000 seats and bring it to 36k max instead of 35k. Not worth the hassle nor the need to move a number of donors to worse seats.

if you sit in 319 now and get moved to say 314/315 the seat will be trivially different.. if you sit in 310/311 now could get moved to 319/301 and actually some would get closer . if you sit in 321/322 your seats could get much better.. the upperdeck issue not the real problem. you can move the people in 108/109 to 116/117 and again its marginally different . people in sections like 205/206/204 get barely a change. this is all about the floor seats and the pullouts. almost every other seat you can adjust with distance changes of very little

You are trivializing the distance change for seats side court in the 300's to what would be the new side court turning the court. All of the 2nd level side court gets screwed because there is no 200 side court level when the court gets turned. Both football sidelines are private boxes in the 200 level.

And what pullouts? In addition to what we already have?

the distance from 310 to center court and 319 to midfield is trivial.. to me upper deck seats sitting 50-75 ft further away is trivial compared to what people sitting in 323 put up with. yeah you have a problem with about 5K worth of seats. if the people in the large pullout/ie 123 are not happy sitting in 114 then its a problem you cant over come.. but again the distance from 123 to center court and 114 to midfield is again 50 ft..

sitelines would have to change, if people used to sitting 100 ft away wont sit 150 ft away so that people sitting 100 yds away only have to sit 50 yds you cant fix this . most of the fans of the team that i know have never sat closer than upper deck to a bball game. to them its about being in the crowd not having a great seat.

as i said earlier Su has camps in the summer with courts all over the dome. its pretty easy to see how the court would effect peoples seats.

There you go. Raise the court!

The blueprint should be the NHL winter classic. Detroit red wings home game that is moved to a fb stadium with the rink placed in the middle.

There is no way those fans can see the puck way up top. They're there to drink and be part of an event. Turn on the game and see for yourself.

Can't say that excites me as a fan of the game.

Of course this event is planned a year in advance and season ticket holders are well aware of the deal - which of course was the rub with our situation.
See what you (re)started?

Again, your minimizing distance. 20-25 yards is a long distance for basketball. And you want to do it to many long time donors. Some will be more than that and some like the 200's, which you now left out, get totally screwed because there isn't a 200 level in your plan.

And I know all about the summer camp. How does that apply? They out down 12 small temp courts. It's a camp. Nobody is going to complain trying to view a game.

You've gone all over the place I don't even know what configuration you're trying to defend.

I think we all agree that this is going to happen eventually. When it does they should make it a big community day. Have a couple high school games first. Have the sectional finals for boys and girls. Then have Lemoyne play or maybe Oswego vs Cortland. Then the Orangewomen and finally the Orangemen. I'd love to see four or five games that day.

they screwed up the duke game by letting the few who own season tickets buy all the extra tickets but that doesnt seem to be a problem to the season ticket holders.. but yeah they donate money so they should be able make a profit..

Personally, I thought the decision to allow season ticket holders to buy up to 8 individual tickets for individual games before allowing the general public to buy any was a bad one.

To me, you want to get as many people to buy season tickets as possible. I understand that and have no problem giving the season ticket holders a chance to buy a couple of tickets to individual games before the general public.

My problem was the number they used. Eight is too many; it basically actively encouraged the season ticket holders to become scalpers and ended up locking the general public out from being able to buy tickets at all for Duke and also precluded them from getting decent tickets for any other attractive opponent. That is decidedly not good with me.

If they had limited the number to two, I would have been a lot more at peace with this.

For the record, I didn't buy tickets to any individual games because I didn't want to deny SU fans who were not season ticket holders from having the chance to get tickets to games. I am genuinely sorry this happened. Hope SU changes in for the future. SU fans should not be selling tickets to other SU fans on Stubhub. It is not the Syracuse way.

I didn't realize this was the practice. I live in NYC and almost always have to use StubHub to buy decent tickets. It is super-annoying and is usually very over-priced.

slightly off topic but while we're talking about Dome seating, anyone ever sit in the lower corners, like 105 or 106 ? Looking at a pair of Pitt ticks in there and wondering if I should pass.

They definitely butchered it up. They could have done it a couple different ways but not how they did it. They could have offered up a three game or six game package like they did but do it for more premium games for existing season ticket holders. Don't stick them with the early season games if they already have tickets to them. So many season ticket holders who wanted extra tickets for Duke or UNC and bought one of the packages also got stuck with High Point or Colgate.

The other thing they could have done was allow the Duke or UNC ticket like they did but limit it based on how many season tickets you have. If you have two, you can buy two. If you have four, you can buy four. Definitely not the eight that it was. People that bought them ended up getting endzone seats anyways so it wasn't really worth it.

The only way to have an acceptable rotated-court configuration is to have new seating platforms that sit on top of the current lower level seating. This way, with a gentler slope, you could get seats down to the court.

This was done for the sideline seats at the Georgia Dome for last season's Final Four. Even then, they raised the court. This isn't practical for a one-time event at the Carrier Dome.

Yep. I've said it a few times that if anyone wants to complain about something it's that 8 ticket deal. Crazy. And like you, I did not buy any extras myself.

6 yards isn't going to make that big a difference. Especially considering it will be only an additional 3 yards on each side if you want the court centered.

The photo is not perfect by any means. The problem is no completely aerial shot of the football field exists since the roof gets in the way.

all do respect, but that that includes baseline and photogs... so its more like 6+ yards on each side.
