HC Job Attractiveness: SU 2024

I wouldn’t be opposed to Red or Gerry getting the job if they can recruit for the zone better. The zone is an incredible weapon with the right players.
With that being said I don’t think either can recruit any better than we’re doing now.

So we probably should go outside for the hire if Wildhack hasn’t busted our budget on the football staff.

I think it’s an attractive job for any coach outside maybe the blue bloods. Definitely second tier college job. Was once top tier and could get there again with the right guy.

i just want the next coach to recruit athletes with better bodies who play physical and tough. We are always physically overwhelmed against better athletic teams. I’d prefer man defense but zone with the right players is effective.

Why does Boeheim deserve 2 more years? I can get behind 1 more if he agrees to do a farewell tour and announce it like K has this year but he has to agree to that.
This isn't the attractive job it was back when we were in the Big East. It's not even a top 25 program anymore.
It hasn't been for about 8 years. By the time JB decides to leave in 2 or 3 years, it will be worse. They will have to hope they can get a young coach who wants to move up to a power 5 job.

I can’t get behind 10 more games. NOT 10 FING GAMES!!!

Name 25 better jobs than SU.

You can’t.

I don't think that matters, and with all due respect, Ithink you're thinking about this the wrong way.

Coaching is an ego-driven profession. Any coach worth their weight in salt is going to have massive confidence in their ability to turn things around. And in our case, quickly.

They'll look at our positives, and think that they can leverage it into a rapid turnaround. The look at us having the largest college basketball arena, being top five and wins, playing in the ACC, having a fan base that travels as well as in the other program and college basketball, unbelief that they can succeed here.

The Carolinas have had like 2 snow storms this week (by their standards, heh), and our current landscape is a bit of an anomaly these days.
Understand. Live 15 miles from Cameron

I would be 1000 pct fine with Red. He knows the game so much more than people think and loves recruiting. His charisma is unmatched

For the long-term strategic benefit of the program, I 1,000% hope you're wrong.

Time for an infusion of new energy and new ideas. Zero reason whatsoever to strive for continuity with the status quo, and any form.

It will be a top two opening this year (assuming it comes open). SU and Maryland.
WIth how bad the ACC is very few coaches are going to turn us down.

This is looking like 'the year' to be looking for a coach. Mack is down a dozen at home to ND Louisville will be looking soon.

This job is more attractive than it was when we were in the Big East.

UNC and Duke have brand new coaches and UVA and Lville both look to be down. Coaches will be desperate to land this gig if offered. Oats is NOT turning us down to stay in friggen Tuscaloosa and be coaching what is essentially Field Hockey to that fanbase.

If he started winning in year 1 would that change things in your mind ?

No offense, but I discount your perspective on these matters due to your connection to the existing assisting coaching staff.

I admire your loyalty, but I don't think you're anywhere near being objective.

If red is the best this program can do, we're doomed. When the time comes, we need to aim higher, and the AD will.

Not saying best we can do. I’m simply sharing the side of what I know. It’s not like Red is a ymca coach. I think it would be beyond smart to go outside the program. I’m just sharing the other side so if it does happen people don’t completely lose it lol. I do not want Gerry as the coach THATS for sure

Here's the thing, bulldog. There's no doubt in my mind that Red would have better chemistry with players and recruits than Boeheim does. I'm sure he's forgotten more about basketball than 99% of the posters will ever know.

But he's been an assistant college basketball coach for about 30 years, and has had ZERO offers from any program at any level to be a head coach.

I just want to point out, that's the same number of offers to be a college head coach that you have had. That should be instructive for our fan base about how the rest of the college basketball landscape views his aptitude, but I think that point is lost on some.

I have only seen brief snippets of him speaking, but it doesn’t ooze off in in those.

How attractive is the gig in 2024 after a losing season and more than likely another non tourney bid year?

Certainly not as attractive as it was 5, 10 and 15 years ago

But has it fallen significantly? Or hardly at all?

Thoughts?
Can the argument be made that it’s now more attractive because the pressure of, say, keeping the 2009-14 run going is long gone?

We’re now a mediocre program having a horrible season. It’s all uphill from here for the next guy.

Great tradition, great facilities, good recruiting location, great league name wise…..and a program that’s been vastly underachieving. The next guy now has it made, IMO.

Dome - check
Melo Center - check
History/Brand - check
ACC - check
AD who has proven loyal - check

‘Cuse job will be extremely attractive. Biggest challenge may be revenue gap vs SEC and BIG.
Cupboards bare - check

Not ‘extremely’ attractive

Hmmm. Disagree. He’s not some over the top, huge personality guy. Sometimes people call that charisma. Like most would probably say Devendorf has charisma, right? I don’t think that’s the only way to be charismatic.

He’s always seemed extremely likable to me. I think he’d recruit well, represent the program well, I’m sure he could run a program and run practice - he’s a smart basketball guy with a ton of basketball experience - from playing at Cuse, to playing pro all over the world, to his time as an assistant

The unknown is, how is he as a game coach? There’s just no way to know.
