HC Job Attractiveness: SU 2024

Totally disagree.

The SU job, when it becomes available, will be 'extremely' attractive.

Extremely.
I think it will be attractive. I don’t see extremely, unless SU increases the pay extremely

Anyone who SU gets needs to be comfortable being the leader of the #1 thing in the city. Nothing about Musselman’s background suggests that he’d want it. Oats I’m less certain about but having coached at UB I imagine he at least would know what he’d be getting into.

They paid to keep Dino after the 10-3 season.

I don’t see why they wouldn’t pay for a hoops coach.
Yep, and frankly I'm impressed with what they did this season to give him everything he needs to be successful again. I was highly critical of that situation, but the way it has turned out has been quite excellent.

Yup. Brought in a well regarded DC last year and well regarded OC and QB coach this year.

I feel good about the football program’s future in the short term.

After. They don’t get a top 10 coach with after

Cupboards bare - check

Not ‘extremely’ attractive
Cupboards bare? This isn’t NFL/NBA/MLB where we are stuck with bad contracts or players we can’t get rid of. This also isn’t CFB where you’re taking over a roster that went 2-10 and you still have 80 kids on scholarship.

It could only take a year or 2 to see results depending on how the recruiting goes. All you really need is to hit on 2-3 guys (including the transfer portal) and you can win 20 games pretty quickly.

We haven’t hit on 2-3 guys in years now

We just need it to be attractive enough for Rick Pitino.

I'm afraid to say anything more.
I wouldnt mind pitino at all. IDC about what happened in louisville cause honestly that could easily be happening so many places in power 5 fball & bball. Some people are that naive.
Also JB has been investigated & penalized twice so why all this nonsense with pitino! Bottom line, he's a hell of a recruiter and coach and thats the bottom line no matter what anyone says.

Bruce pearl, another good example, now coaching auburn, the #1 team in the country

How attractive is the gig in 2024 after a losing season and more than likely another non tourney bid year?

Certainly not as attractive as it was 5, 10 and 15 years ago

But has it fallen significantly? Or hardly at all?

Thoughts?
Why 2024? Did i miss something or just strictly hypothectical?
IMO he should be gone at the end of the season! Ive been extremely adamant & clear on this issue

I think it would be really attractive especially if you have kids in high school. You can come here and your kids can play 36 min a game. Or 40 even. We are cool with it. Doesn't matter their skill level. Creat lifetime memories.
When long time supporters like you and RF go over to the dark side like this you know it’s time for a change. I get hopeful big time supporters are feeling the same way and making the important and urgent phone calls to the AD.

I honestly feel like the job will always bring relatively attractive due to facilities and fan/community support. Casual basketball fans I meet on the west coast still view the program as elite. Many only watch a handful of regular season games and the tournament.

Don’t you blame JB for that? He’s talking about the next coach.
That will take a couple years thought, won’t it?

I always felt Arizona was a great comp for us. 1 title and multiple final fours. Good consistent program. It has no where near our community support but were always good under Lute Olsen. Since then they have had patches of success and a few years of struggling but rarely have been terrible. I think that is where we are heading.

Because of the sustained success of the program, the dome, the community support, the fact that one good recruiting class can help so much, there are so many positives here with the job. There will be names involved that I guarantee will shock all of us.
