HCSS just challenged the community to "come out and have a blast" in between about 5 frig/friggen this and that - wish I recorded it. Nico responded "wow I'm fired up" - no wonder why the players wanted him as HC.

Didn't know you could say frig on NBC TV.

HCSS knows its a really important weekend for many reasons - first ACC game, big time recruits, regional/national exposure! He said that the 12th man could be the difference in this game to get the win - he wants the Dome to be friggen rocking!

If that doesn't get you fired up to go to the game I don't know what will. Can't wait!

Let's Go Orange!

Genuinely can't wait for this game. If we can get 45,000+ and the team can keep it competitive we can make the Dome as intimidating and loud as anywhere in the country.

Is there a specific definition of "frig" or is it just code for another word?

It has evolved into a more socially acceptable way to say "F_ck or F_cking"

I think Coach Shafer is really connecting with the typical CNY fan because he has the same Northern Cities Vowel Shift that pretty much started in the Syracuse/Utica area and has moved down through the southern/middle Great Lakes. (actually it moved from Boston but once you get west of Amsterdam it changes and sounds pretty much the same to Chicago)

I.E. he sounds like us 315ers.

Mingya is so upsate NY. That would be a stretch for HCSS.

The guy is genuine, which is why we like him.
Go Blue!

ive lived in Syracuse my entire life...what the hell is mingya? am i reading it wrong?

FWIW, as he was going into the locker room at half time, HCSS said Hunt was playing his @ss off in the first half to the sideline reporter for radio. Park joked they might have to time delay future interviews.

Funny because wifey was telling me I need to stop saying frikkin bacause it makes me sound ignorant and low class.

Now I can say, dangit it woman saying frikken does not make one low class it makes the #hardnosed

I grew up in Syracuse and never heard it until I ventured north into Oswego county to serve my 5 years at SUNY Oswego. If you don't hear it while you're there it's because you're deaf.

yea but that doesnt help me to understand what the hell it means. I used to drink on bridge st often in Oswego and either was not sober enough to hear it..or i was too balls deep in a girl to care to hear it.

I am amazed at the similarity between Chicago and upstate accents. Like some others though, mingya is foreign to me.

It's used as an expletive, in my experience, with no real meaning other than to add emphasis to whatever's being referenced..."Mingya I was balls deep in that girl last night" or "Mingya I was totally hammered last night" would be two perfectly acceptable usages.

MIN-GEE-YEA? is that how you pronounce it? I cant believe im asking more questions about a native Oswegonian tongue.

My wife's straight Italiano, menguia, especially in Canastota, ny is a heavily used word used for emphasis, similar to Long Shank's meaning.
