here comes temple

I was responding to a post which stated "Volunteer to play at Buffalo".

Buffalo played at Temple in 2011. One would expect that 2012 would have Temple playing at Buffalo.
Wait, Tennessee is playing @UB? ;)

Let's see, there'll be:

7 new: SDSU, Boise, Houston, SMU, UCF, Memphis, Navy
1 returning: Temple
4 recent adds: Louisville, Cincinnati, USF, Yukon
1 original: Rutgers

The NNBE will be poised to either go to 14/16 or absorb another defection (Louisville).

JAB's comment applies here as well... this isn't the same Big East that we were used to.

If we play at Temple this Fall they just might make the Fine Mess Tailgate Roadie. Please let this scheduling mess be resolved by next week.

I was on the hill yesterday and I won't say who I casually asked but they said very soon.

Understood. I wasn't disagreeing with you, I was agreeing.

Zibby said earlier in this thread that in the MAC schedule was already announced, and Temple was supposed to host Buffalo. I found the release for this, this is not true...it is as you theorized.

So one would think that assuming Temple does join the BE in 2012, we would have options to schedule a home game with the following MAC schools:

Akron, Eastern Michigan, Massachusetts, and Ohio

Syracuse needs to schedule an FBS opponent to play in the Dome. Playing @Temple (filling the @WVU slot) and playing @Buffalo does not solve that need.

Yeah good point jurrie, why the hell would we play at Buffalo.

If SU couldn't win the BE in 2012, the next most-awesome thing would be Temple rejoining the league and winning it.

It's a plot line straight out of the WWE.

"Wait... is that?... it's Temple's music! Good God, it's Temple!!!"

A game in Buffalo might help the program more than a game at the Dome against another crap team. It would expand SU's foothold in the state, especially when some of the better talent comes out of Western NY.

Excellent point.

I'd ask Akron first...they have a first class facility for a return game. Might be tougher to get a 2 for 1 at this late date.

Second choice would be EMU...but we could drive a harder bargain with them and get a 2 for 1.

Both are in our recruiting areas.

Is it ironic or fitting (or both) that the two remaining members of the original Big East will be Rutgers and Temple. What a storyline. For people who hate stories.

I'll repeat it again: Syracuse needs another FBS opponent at the Dome. 5 home games will not pay the bills. Yes, there'll be revenue from the USC game, but Syracuse still needs (at least) 6 true home games.

This wouldn't make any MAC teams available to play. This would reduce the number of MAC teams from 14 to 13. They'd find another way to get each team eight conference games.

Is that really the case? Don't we have to pay teams for appearing at the Dome? I'd be curious to see the math that shows how many seats we need to sell to make a profit on a home game.

I suspect many season ticket holders will let their feelings be known if they're asked to pay the same $ for fewer games. TGD will have to lower season ticket prices as well as preferred seating fees.

I plan on moving to preferred seating and getting another ticket. This move will be postponed a year (or more) if the total cost/game is out of whack.

You are right. They are left with a real mess. The easiest thing for them to do is what the SEC, the Big 12 and now the BE are doing...replace the defecting school with a new school. If they can't do that, they are faced with either completely redoing their conference schedule or deciding to just play 7 conference games in 2012, leaving each school to fill its 12th game as best it can.

I bet they get some school desperate to get into the MAC to join in 2012, leaving the hole in the conference problem for some other, even more lowly conference to deal with. Maybe Stonybrook?

SU keeps sayng they haven't raised season ticket prices. Yet, in the past eight years my preferred seats have gone from $250 per year to $770 (2 for $1540 vs. $500). During this time I believe we've won 3 Big East home games. They better be very careful who they fill our two home games with because the people sitting in my area are pretty fed up with the peformance on the field. Many have already decided to not renew again.

Wow, just wow at that price. I wouldn't even pay that for season tickets to one of the top tier schools.

You can get season tickets for anywhere from $99 to $240.

Just don't expect to sit in the Premium seats on the 50 yard line.

Yeah, I just figured that our preferred seating is probably in the ball park of some other school's upper end season tickets. Bad clarification on my part.

I understand the consternation at the rate of increase, but SU's preferred seating is a total steal compared to just about every other BCS program (including the crappy one's).

My uncle has preferred seats at Oregon State and it's insane what he has to fork over to keep them.

Temple joining fills one slot, plus SU can pick one of the games they have to drop. Volunteer to play at Buffalo.
So we replace WVU and TCU with Temple and UB? Pitiful. With a scheduel that weak SU better win 8 games or Marrone's gone! You don't get to keep the same expectations when you crap down the schedule. Granted, not SU's fault really but that schedule is embarrassing.

We're playing 2 B1G schools and the #1 team in the country. Not as bad of a schedule as you are making it out to be.

I do not understand why people get so worked up over this. It's a one year blip, and our future starting in 2013 is ACC + Notre Dame for the next four years or so. While I don't want them to play 2 1AA's, I wouldn't complain about it if that is all that can be cobbled together.

I could really care less who they play outside of the conference. Really. The only goals for this year, it being what it is, should be: (1) get to a bowl game, period; (2) win the conference. Even if we win the conference, SOS won't matter for jack, so take the "unlucky" BCS game that has to pick us, and move on. Complaining at this point strikes me as complaining for complaining's sake.
