People like to point out Fab's limited offense and Dion's limitations as a deep threat and point to those as reasons why they're not ready for the NBA. I don't think those are irrelevant points, but I don't think they're considering the whole picture.

First, a player doesn't need to be ready for the NBA in order to be drafted very highly.

Second, neither of those limitations are things that can't be learned. Offense usually comes later for big men. Outside shooting can come later in a career for a guard. I don't think these are big negatives at all.

Third, the NBA loves potential. They'll look at the growth of these two players and assume that under NBA guidance the trajectory will remain up and up. Both players are in a unique position where they've shown vast improvement but are still young enough to not be picked on too much.

Lastly, and most importantly, they are building a reputation as former headcases. That means they're coachable. That means NBA teams can reach them.

This will be a banner year for Syracuse in the draft. Joseph, Melo, and Waiters are all going in the 1st round.

I have no idea what they are going to do, but it seems to me that on general, players are more likely to go pro than us as fans think.

So for guys like Melo and Waiters, who aren't locks to go this year, but aren't locks to not go; seems like they're probably going to go. But obviously a lot of hoops to be played.

I think it's better to let the season play out before making any judgments about the NBA. A lot can happen between now and April, and there's a lot yet to be determined about both Fab's and Dion's draft status. The good thing is we have so many talented players in this program that we'll be really good next year regardless of what happens. I just want to enjoy this year for now, though.

While they are here enjoy! This the deepest team to every lace 'em up for the Orange and beginning to look more and more likely.. also the best.

I agree regarding Waiters and Fab but Joseph for the very reasons you point out. Joseph is a senior and there will be too many under classmen come for him to make the first round.

I think he'll be a late 1st rounder.

I think the potential thing is more applicable to big men. I think it means Fab has a chance to go higher based on his progression.

I think smaller players need to have more developed games. So the limited outside shot of Dion is a bigger drag on drafting him than the defiencies of Fab's game.

I think he'll be a late 1st rounder.
Don't forget about the Euro imports too! If hope he goes 1st round but if not I hope he goes undrafted. there is more upside in being a free agent than a 2nd rounder in today's NBA.

The dolts in the NBA may draft on potential but they have no patience to develop players. If you can't produce quickly you will be out quickly because coaches who lose get fired. Thabeet got sent to Siberia. As soon as his contract is up, or near up, he will be cut lose. If you want to continue to develop your game, stay in school. Or go overseas but I doubt they pay people who don't produce either.

I don't disagree, but I also don't feel that is relevant to Fab coming out. You've got to get into the league before you can find a way to stay in the league. :noidea:

I still think the league would like to see him actually make plays guarding someone then rely on blocking shots on undersized players foolishly challenging him.. I dont think you can really say he has had to guard a center in weeks..

Herb Pope is 6'8 236, he averages 18.6 ppg and 10.9 rpg.

Against Melo, Pope did this, 4 points and 9 rebounds. 2-9 from the field.

2 days later against WVU, Pope did this, 13 points and 7 rebounds. 6-11 from the field.

You only need one to really like you.

Not really. You need at least one to really like you AND not need or prefer someone else at that pick. A GM can love you, but still not value you enough to want to pay you a high pick's salary. A GM can love you but still know they position is blocked by a better/incumbent player.

Let's hope GMs unanimously hate Fab's silly accent and Dion's non-starterness, at least until after next season.

Semantics.

A) That is very selfish

B) It is not in the long term best interest of the program. The top recruits want to pro as soon as possible and we sell them on the fact that we can get them there asap.

Semantics.
Sure. You can say that about any silly, overarching, invalid statement. Or, you could not say that.

But, never accuse me of being anti-semantic.

...

This will be a banner year for Syracuse in the draft. After leading Syracuse to the National Championship, Joseph, Melo, and Waiters are all going in the 1st round.

Fixed. ;)

They'll be fighting to get into the first round if they go this year.
That is the one (and only reason) i think one of those guys might return. A lot of players bypassed the draft due to lockout so this next draft will be loaded

IMO, Dion Waiters is not a first round NBA draft pick, not now, not next year. Orange colored glassed will do that.
