I think the main issue people have with him is that he goes well above and beyond being objective to the point where he takes snide potshots at the school/program.

I also get the general impression that he thinks the McNabb era was the Apex of the program because that is when HE was at SU.

I personally don't like it, just like I didn't like Michael Cohen's "gotcha" pieces either.

You can be objective without being a jerk about it. It's not entertaining and it's not cute.

Me too, I totally thought we'd have a Varsity Blues situation all of next year. What a stunning turn of events this has been.

Wow, this took a serious left turn. The guy said he was surprised SU did as well as it did, which is not all that nuts considering most here feel it's a home run. I don't really worry about Thamel or his history here so I could be wrong, but it seemed a perfectly logical comment. Didn't realize it would be anywhere near this controversial. Yikes.

That may be in general but I took this specific comment to be stating what seems obvious to me: a program that has fallen on really hard times (not just the record but the fact there is no longer even a northeast based football conference) and has never, in my lifetime, shown exceptionally strong will to play with the big boys, landed a highly sought after head coach that likely had other options. I mean, I see that as the logical way to view this narrative and it read like that's essentially what he was writing.

So wait, people are upset because he was surprised the Cuse hired someone as accomplished as Dino? Can I ask what it was that made people think we would hire someone as good as Dino. Certainly haven't done it on the last three hires (not to say DM was a bad hire, but nowhere near as accomplished or sought after as a college coach) and didn't really do it with P.

We also haven't paid our coaches much relative to others.

We also have a program that has some significant hurdles that a hot head coaching candidate may shy away from even though I realize we are a P5 school.

I mean, his statement isn't slobberingly glowing of the state of the football program, I'm pretty sure we should all be pleasantly surprised that we ended up with a coach with this dude's resume. It should be something of a surprise.

its just Thamel has to drop subliminal negative remarks whenever talking about Syacuse football. He is worse than doug gottlieb when gottlieb clearly was mad at boeheim about the family relationships.

Even the subway rats just walk by Thamel just like they do to the exterminator.

Am only guessing here but seems like his pissy attitude has taken off relatively recently. Before that it seems like he was SU's go to guy to get out big time info (e.g. going to ACC). Thinking he may have lost his sources in the prior admin or AD's office.

My sentiment as well. He's so quick to kick SU every chance he gets and as a graduate, that definitely rubs me the wrong way. That's fine for him I guess. Never see him say too much positive. Here was a decent chance but it was more of the same.

That may be the case. I honestly don't know. But in this case I'm pretty sure the sentiment was warranted.
