Hodg GameDay: AAC Championship USF v. Wichita St, 3:15pm ESPN

Landing Hodgson would feel too good to be true for me, which is also what scares the crap out of me. I've really been leaning on the insiders' confidence that we can/will get him to keep me sane until there's an official announcement. Anyone else in this boat with me?
I’m naturally pessimistic, so I’m there with you. Feeling also like there’s a significant amount of ‘upheaval’ in the SU universe, with the chancellor and AD, and a short window to get a new HC and to negotiate the portal, and then add to that the dynamics of how the NIL environment will deal with this season’s disappointments vs potential for excitement for next year. I have to trust the new folks in charge are commensurately energized and motivated by the potentials and will get things done.

Folks are overselling their arguments on this one coach. We weren't allowed to be excited for GMacs victory, but now we have to be excited for this victory?
I hope they are doing a national search, & their due diligence on all coaches. If he gets it after all that, let's go. But, let it play out. If they don't go with an assistant from a blueblood, I'd like to know why.
Not sure it matters, but I hope our future coach wins 1 or 2 in the NCAAT. I doubt GMac will, but I'd assume USF gets one. Seems good for the sell to new recruits & image of the new coach.
Will be fun to see it play out. At least, I now have a reason to watch some teams during March.
Decisive victory. Wichita St equaled their grit, but couldn't hit shots & turned it over due to the constant defensive pressure.
Who said that?

So here is the plan. While S. Fl. is making it through the 2nd game in the NCAAT, Wildhack, Haynie, and Blair will get the parties into a room in Syracuse, lock the door and hash it all out until they all agree that Hodgson is the right choice, and then they will fix the football problems also. S. Fl. will lose the 2nd game, because we will then be ready to get him to sign on the dotted line. Even better is he is in a region that is close to Syracuse so he can get to town quickly.

I’m trying to think who was SU’s last player that has Enis’s defensive dog mentality?
He was tenacious today guarding a 20 point per game senior scorer. He completely locked him up. I think the only other guard defender with that type of on-ball intensity was Jason Hart

I think he looks like the right hire for us at this time. That said, today's performance would not be one I'd put on the resume tape. They have an opportunity though because Louisville has been bad.

Literally *ZERO people said "you aren't allowed to be excited about GMac's victory." That thread is FULL of people showing excitement and enthusiasm for Gerry's team making the tournament.

If you watched the other two games the played vs Wichita State they were similar. WS makes their games all kind of an ugly Jamie Dixon at Pitt like game.

This guy has done it at 2 different places plus was an assistant to a good school in the SEC, so he meets your criteria. Sign him and get it
over with, he is a good recruiter to add with a great feel for coaching the game.
If he is willing to come don't mess around and blow it.

I mean, sure, but after a national search.
I see what you and others are saying, but you're selling it too hard, IMO. The evidence is pretty good, but nothing will be announced until the future coaches season is over anyway, so what is the rush?

A thorough search gave time for Fran Brown to find us.

Who said that?

Nobody literally said it, but its implied and effectively happening by the multiple responses that are as follows:

* good win, but his conference is inferior to BHs conference
* good win, but he cannot run an offense
* good win, but its not his time
* good win, but please for the love of God don't hire him

No, it is not implied. For Heaven's sake.

I mean, I get your points, just as I get other posters don't want Hodgson. You have your camp. But you can't equate opposition to GMac being head coach to you hate him and can't be happy for his successes.

I'm pretty sure you and LAorange44 are the only two posters who think this.

All points are moot unless the $$$$ people can get their collected heads out of their a$$$es and fund NIL to the needed level our none of the perspective candidates will come.

Notice you aren’t calling out the guys who are saying “great win and amazing turnaround to a downtrodden program! Here’s your lifetime contract.”

I think there were a lot of good things to take away from that game. The games that arent the prettiest tell me alot more about a coach then the games were everything goes right.

Two big things I took away from that game were:

-Hodgson won a defensive grind it out game. I don't think alot of people thought that was possible

-In the second half Hodgson was aware of the game and slowed the game down on offense some for their standards. This allowed them to get better shots towards the end of the game and keep their players fresh.

You downplay BH in every post. Clearly there's something you're bothered about with him not related to actual basketball results.

Why would we hire an assistant at a blueblood?

Johnny Dawkins, Wojo, Chris Collins, Jeff Capel, and Tommy Amaker all fired at one point or another and none of them are great.

BH is the safest bet out there. An assistant is more of a risk. And he's done it more than Gerry. PERIOD.

The celebrations of GMacs victory were definitely being dampened by multiple Hodgson supporters, who cautioned, in no uncertain terms, about hiring anyone from the JB tree, and who are now using his conference tournament win as yet another reason to hire him right now.

I am dropping it though. We are all Syracuse fans at the end of the day.

He has an interesting backstory & has worked his way through the ranks & the play, if it works in the ACC, could be interesting to watch. Louisville will be a good test.

Regardless, I hope they work through a list, thoroughly vet the candidates, & pick the best one. I like the thought of someone from the Hurley tree due to all the NCs they won, or someone with an even better backstory, but I hear that person is unattainable.
