Some of these box scores in losses are hard to believe

12carries for ptg and aam combined

With a 4th string QB and 2nd string Offensive line it can. But you probably don't think that could effect the offensive production.

Couldn't believe we didn't see more AAM today. But then he gets the ball on the 3rd and 8 draw when you'd usually use your quicker back.

I'm picturing Airplane. "Shouldn't we turn on the lights?" "No, that's just what they'd be expecting us to do."

Exactly. Every week there is a new excuse why we were right in the game and didn't win. We are on par with our peers apparently.

Apparently to some people there is a fine line between 3-9 and 9-3.

And we were scoring with everyone healthy?
As I recall the OC was fired for reason wasn't he? Also Prior to the OL injuries SU wasn't having a difficult time moving the ball and they were in the top ten in fewest sacks per game allowed

Lester hasn't been some revelation in the play calling department. Some of you act like we were scoring 40ppg before the injuries.

We were scoring a lot more than we have the past two games since the injuries and the competition before was much stiffer as well. I think SU is actually a much better team than Duke and would have won easily if they had been healthy. The offense has clearly gotten much worse if you can't see that you must be blind

Like I said in another post. The injuries have made a bad situation worse. Went from a D+ offense to D-. Still sucked all year.

You can be a bad coach with healthy players and a bad coach with injured players

Even with a fully healthy line this has been a terrible offense all year long. We have struggled to move it through the air all year. We have struggled to score inside the red zone all year. We just struggle. The 2 times our offense was good enough to win, our defense got torched. This just has been a nightmare of a year.

Bottom line the offense was bad all season and the injuries made it even worse. Our D has been nothing short of excellent in most games, good enough to be bowl eligible now if the O hadn't been so poor early in the season and so poor and banged up recently. It is unfortunate that we lose a ton on D after the season, especially Reddish, he has raised his game a ton recently. We have an identity on D and it shows. The offense needs an identity, it needs playmakers and it needs to be healthy. I hope Lester develops an identity for this offense going into 2015 that matches the personnel we have. Something GMC didn't do. 5 TD passes in 10 games by the QBs. In this era of video game offenses that is putrid.

Reddish has made himself some money this year. He is playing lights out at corner.

I think you mean every year. There are always excuses here.

44cuse

We only scored 17 points against Villanova before the game went to overtime. Our offensive weaknesses existed before there were any injuries and none of our quarterbacks have showed much ability to get into the end zone. SU has scored 33 points the last three weeks and everyone is trying to convince themselves which of these QBs looks best running the offense.

As you pointed out, our offensive unit has sucked all year. It is tough to pick out individual scapegoats to blame for our losses every week when there are so many things to choose from. I'm not sure there are any simple answers to our problems, so I am just going to hope Syracuse can win the next game.

Go Cuse!

I know there were injuries. That's why I'm baffled that aam and ptg didn't get the ball.

Ummm, were averaging 1.5 TD's a game offensively this year; 15 total TD's in 10 games. Pretty much right on average for the last two games. 2 TD's against NC state and one td yesterday.

To go with that, we averaged 1.7 offensive td's with Hunt at QB in the beginning of the year (didn't count second half of nova). Currently, since hunt got hurt and all these injuries, were averaging 1.3 TD's a game. Hate to tell you this but even with hunt at QB and a healthy offensive line we weren't scoring points. Under 2 offensive td's a game.

It's certainly true that Shafer has got to find a way, (or someone) to get this offense moving or his tenure here isn't going to be along one. But two years, with the second year wiped out by injuries is not enough to determine whether he can do that. He brought MacDonald on board as OC because he needed him as a recruiter and MacDonald wouldn't come unless he could be an OC. He helped the recruiting but was a bad OC and he went to Lester, who was in no position to work miracles. If we are still talking about this a year from now, that is the time to form some conclusions.

At some point it starts to look like you're not failing to execute what you are trying to do, you are trying to do the wrong thing.
