Hooville Postgame thoughts...

We will beat up on bad teams but any team with high end talent or great coaching will control us. Ain't happening this year.

Fingers crossed that the jimmys and joes are a bigger issue than the X's and O's.

How many times can you burn the tape? We get boatraced by any decent to great team and underperformed against bad teams except against LSU and a D2 team. Is there any usable footage?
good question!

What happens when you 'burn' ash?

The principal component of wood ash appears to be calcium carbonate. (Wiki entry, "wood ash".) Other components include compounds of potassium and phosphorus. If you heat the calcium carbonate strongly enough, it will decompose into CO2 and calcium oxide

I thought they played well for the first 15 minutes. Good movement on offense, best defense yet, in my opinion. But as they started to miss shots, they lost intensity on defense and suddenly a 3 to 5 point game quickly went to 15 points at the half.

In the second half, we started OK, but lacked the movement of early in the game. Judah and JJ kept driving, Taylor and Bell couldn't buy a three, although I will give them both respect for going inside the arc a few times. Then they hit us with that 13 point streak about 5 minutes into the half and it was 15 minutes of literal garbage time.

The only guys who played well were Starling, Copeland and Maliq Brown. Judah didn't really get it going. Naheem was bad offensively early, but did make a few good plays off and on.

Too much one-on-one in the 2nd half, but in the first 15 minutes or so, I thought we looked awfully good.
Copeland had a nice stat line, but when the game was close he tripped over his own feet two
possesions in a row. His hands are awful. Brown is the only player that actually played a decent game.

The schools that pay the most money for talent will win. I hear on this board that the school is competitive with NIL, but it will never be a top NIL destination and therefore will not be a top program in the future. And we’re washing away our history.

And, by the way, when people say things like NIL deals for Jesse, or Bethea, or Dickinson are wild and messing up the market — that is the market now. That is what it cost to be a top program, whether we find it absurd or not. Can’t just keep expressing shock at deals and shrug it off like that isn’t the market.
Tell me how much UVA pays for their roster.

Hopefully Red can turnover the roster come year end. Way to many non P5 players on this team right now. Freeman and choppa will help but they are young and there will be a learning curve. Really hope we didn't swing and miss on Westry, need him to be decent
This.

I’m with ya man. I don’t have the answer. I’m trying to be positive because Syracuse Basketball means a lot to me and I hate conceding the fact we’re garbage again 8 games into a season. It’s just a complete failure how far we’ve fallen.

You could give him dukes roster and the coaching he has displayed thus far wouldn’t win you 18 games.

Yet UVA continues to get sub 100 ranked players and completely owns us. At some point the talent argument becomes an excuse for the garbage system we throw out there.

Start over ...starling westry brown freeman moore...kindly tell the rest need to move on fill in three guys from portal

The broadcast mentioned Westry could be ready to go in a few weeks. What is everyone's thoughts on his role and who's he taking minutes from if he is ready to go? Taylor Bell Starling.

Totally. They seem to get discouraged way too easy vs good teams. Not to sounds like a broken record, but we have way too many guys (basically everyone outside of Maliq) that seem to get worse if they dont score.
If you’re playing this level of basketball and giving up as many times as this team has then they probably should find another hobby.

Wasn’t that suppose to be Judah? He got absolutely owned by Beekman today. We looked mentally soft.
One of my main takeaways was Judah not matching iron with iron. As soon as he knew he had a great defender on him, he deferred, seemed uninterested in pulling out everything he's got. You know FIRE. He's seemed to have that in the past but I don't know...

I’m convinced Judah isn’t a go to guy. He’s going to have big games that give the appearance of a pro. His ppg are largely connected to his free throws. He’s a below average shooter, poor defender, and doesn’t elevate the team. I’m so tired of watching him and others complain to the refs when they force up garbage. Love Judah and I’m glad he’s back playing for us, but he isn’t the best player on a top 25 team.

Again, those players were on the team that went 3-4 with losses at Colgate and Bryant at home. This is recently bias
We got dominated by Colgate for 15 minutes.

You wouldn’t take Jesse and Joe back because they were on the team last year and had a bad record?

Benny, Taylor, Mintz and Bell were on the team too, and I’d probably take Jesse and Joe over all but one of them.

Nothing you can say will convince me that we’re worse with them, we’d be FAR better than we are no and it wouldn’t be close.

100% taylor / bell.

I've seen enough of our forwards -- and I'll lump Benny into this discussion, as well -- to know that they are a massive liability.

Even sight unseen, I'd expect Westry to be better than that trio.
