Hop brought back for next year at UW….

In Autry’s defense, Jerami Grant is a pretty damn good player, and Autry recruited him. Same with Oshae. I think the first round demarcation is overrated. But yeah, Gmac hasn’t recruited any big time players but both he and Autry have had their hands tied in many recruitments because of JB’s lack of involvement.
I think we've also lost a number of recruits.
Now would we want Dior Johnson? Probably not. How about Bazley?

And the transfer portal? Would Hop have saved someone like Kadary leaving? Not sure.

Based on Hop’s performance at UW. By all means Id prefer a national search. But we have little to believe he’d be a better head coach on the east coast aside from speculation.
Why so? It’s not like he wasn’t getting good players at Washington. His issue isn’t the talent he gets, it’s appears to be his coaching ability.

Edit: Whoops, I misread your last line and thought you were saying we have no evidence he wouldn’t be a better coach on the east coast. Sorry.

You’re not selling me on agreeing that he should be our HC with that

Let me be a little clearer. Hop thought it would be world war three, and that he didn’t think he’d win.

There were signs.

When the coach in waiting is denied a request to go out recruiting a guy he wanted to bring in…that was sorta the last straw.

Oh, I hear ya...and understand completely.

Someday, perhaps after JB has departed, Mike will come out with his best selling autobiography. ;):)

So. He hasn't won at Washington. Why do we want him?

I don't want him to be JB's successor, for the multitude of factors and limitations already discussed / covered in this thread.

But there are a bunch of reasons a segment of our fanbase wants him:
  • He's a terrific guy
  • He's got a ton of positive energy, which people like
  • He's connected to our program, as both a former player / former assistant coach
  • Some believe that if he'd stayed east, the downward trend experienced at UW wouldn't have happened
  • Some posters can't envision someone not connected to JB not being at the helm
  • Some posters believe that if he came back to SU, his recruiting prowess would outweigh the cons his stint at UW have revealed

I think he would have recruited the shitake outta the east coast for 2-3 years if the transition went smoothly and on time.

It was set up pretty well.

But I’ve outlined above where I think improvements would need to be made.

Reading this really makes the last 5 years including this year very frustrating.

Buddy could have played for Hop.
The fact we have a portion of the fanbase accepting Coach is bigger than the program is very distressing.

46 years will do that

I’ll support whatever direction we take. I don’t have the energy anymore to dissect it.

But it seems to me that the iso offense, zone defense is all the Boeheim tree knows. Which makes sense. I wouldn’t mind moving away from it.

If the heir apparent keeps it but can get better players, then great.
Amen

What does acceptance really mean? We recognize we don’t have the power to change anything. It’s as simple as that.

We will get a new coach. We will have our national search. We will return to elite status. Just not until JB decides it’s time.

It’s disappointing that people can’t honor agreements that are written up.

I bet Buddy would have loved playing for Mike.

Anyways Happy New Year to all

people seem to assume we'll tank when JB leaves. well this ain't 1980's JB. and 9th in conference is not a high bar to clear. guess what...we might actually be better !!!

If fans don’t have any power why is Coach Boeheim being passive aggressive towards fans not showing up to games then? He can’t have his cake and eat it as well.
When does enough become enough. I am paying donations no matter what because I root for the school and won’t stop donating to hurt the school.

That is stupid. The people making the decisions should realize the frustration of the fans and show they care.

because he wouldn't bolt after a year or two like most people on our radar?
He would need an offer to bolt and his track record thus far isn’t winning him many of those

He’s annoyed at the low attendance. That doesn’t mean he’s worried about his job.

Boeheim has lakehouses to build, grandkids' trusts to fund; why would he walk away from free money? Especially when he can just pass off all his heavy lifting work to his assistants. When I see that graphic about JB in his 47th year as SU HC on tv, why would he willing leave before the Big Five-0.

That would be his bosses job and again that is frustration. I have been told stuff I am not posting out of respect but it’s frustrating that performance doesn’t matter.
Some would argue that performance does matter and that’s why JB gets to leave on his terms.

If I don't think that's the way it went down? I believe I've generally summed up pretty much the same deal.

However, "technically," if Mike held firm and didn't budge, etc., affording Kent to honor the agreement which he had every intention of keeping, moreoever, broadcasted to the entire world, there isn't a need for any announcement that Boeheim is staying. ;)
Hopkins could not force SU to name him HC. Any lawsuit for breech of contract would have been for monetary damages.
