Thanks for checking that out.
That's kind of a lame rule.
How about this, every time SU scores on the following kickoff lets not kick the ball out of bounds and hand the opponent the ball on the 40 yard line. Just kick the ball down the middle of the field every time because aiming for a sideline never seems to work. Just sayin!
Maybe it was the timing that made them seem so bad. They seemed to happen in tight games and at the wrong time. Strategic error on the coaches maybe?Surprising stat. Our yards per kickoff (ave) was 5th in the big east. Same as the offensive yardage and higher than the defensive yardage rank (8th). We had 4 go out of bounds which wasn't even the worst in the BE. The BE average was just under 3. Ross had 3 and Raupers 1. So maybe it wasnt as bad as we think. Very average but not the death knoll.
I remember the year before when Long had 2 in one game. The 2nd of which led to Casullo's sideline rampage and ultimately his firing.

It was a momentum thing, I'd like to see the stat that has what the score was when each breakdown occurred, such as the out of bounds kick offs. Heck, if you're up/down by 30 and the kick goes out of bounds, who cares.
The team speed has improved and that should also help with the specials.

I am not fantaczing about 400 yds/ game on O as I don't see it happening but we really need to get a lot better on specials, some bigger plays, less mistakes and penalties and hopefully kicks into the endzone. We could really use it
It was the timing of our mistakes that hurt. We never seemed to come through when needed. Stats can be very misleading. No doubt they can be a momemntum killer. But I don't know scores when we did it. Fact is though, as much as we stressed over the kickoffs in general, both in the BE and nationally, we were pretty average and the yardage stats ranked better than the offense (BE) and defense (nationally). Not as bad as I thought when I went and looked.
