Hopkins Gameday…

Just have to find something from the midfield. Hahn, McIntee, Rawson, Kraftson, Hottle… need to get some production from those guys. Past 3 games, they have given us very little

Was waiting till after game to say anything but man 🤨. Offense no good spacing no moving feet on passes or catches. All just standing or going half ass when do move. Can’t tell ya how much open space on slides was there yet not single person goes to it. How can’t we simply follow the slide man to the open space. The passing the simple passing thay always comes in low or bounces or simply to dam much or loft the D can get on guy before ball makes it.

Also why can’t we just run to space when see double setting up specially when we are 2ft from the midline. Rhoa RUN! down towards box stop just going back up creating less room cause of midline. Also stop staring off into space when subbing. Always keep eye behind ya so opponent subbing can’t surprise you from behind. Bear you need to learn how to pass my guy. Every pass you have made off dodge has been into the ground. Gotta be able to feed ball off dodge if no shot. Also i’m not crazy bout leo at attack as feel when he’s there he turns it over to much or just doesn’t get involved much while getting beat up. He should def be able to play better but he has not been great. This offense def needs to pull their heads out their a$$ in a hurry.

Also hate to say it tho did look good vs maryland (first half mostly). I don’t think maryland is as good as that normall would be fair to compare. Mean they did just let an awful delaware team score 8 goals. So big head after that game or was just not same maryland D so false hope (not sure is right word) but this offense is just out of whacked. Also fast break when ya go down low to right (finn) twice other teams start sliding early that way maby fake it n go backside to leo. As twice off fast break leo was alone cause hop slide before pass to finn. If joey even fake it or just threw to leo been wide open look.

Defense and mullen all can say is nice dam job. If wasn’t for you and mccool( tho he needs to stay on post on low angle shots) this game could been worst. Defense deserves all credit for this dub.

Hopefully offense can tinker n work on things vs air force. Not that they should or can look pass air force but least game should be able to build some confidence from guys.

Shout out to the entire ssdm core, outstanding game. Not tooting my own horn here but McCarthy looks outstanding whwre he belongs at ssdm. Can clear it and has looked very good. This team probably is 5-1 if he was moved sooner.
I thought this was Bowen’s best game in Orange as well. 2 GBs, a CT on a clean strip of a midfielder up top in the 3rd as Hop was mounting a comeback, great D all game matching feet to stay in front & getting physical to cut off angles, plus several nice clears.

Suppose it’s a good sign that they beat Hopkins on the road by four and we are all pretty annoyed by the result.

Not sure what’s going on with the offense. Lots of passes look like they sail, it’s just not “crisp” enough. For a unit that is known for their ball movement the past few years this is surprising. It’s senior players that are making a lot of these miscues. Lack of focus? Too many guys moving around?

The good news is that if they do figure things out, they have a stellar defense behind them that has been consistent all year. And it’s good to see some players who have been struggling, like Thomson and Rhoa get going. Hopefully the rest of the unit can find themselves out west. They need to do it quickly.

Quality win. It’s clear now that defense and goaltending are this team’s strength. Mullen was solid today. He’s so important. It’s reassuring to know that this defense isn’t going to give up a lot of late-game leads. Maryland and today are examples. Hopefully the offense finds its way. But without a standout third attack, the offense is going to struggle at times. Leo can’t go MIA with our offensive issues. Keys to the rest of the season are fine tuning the offense and winning enough to avoid falling into a position whete we’ll have to face a top 3 seed in the quarterfinals.

Didn't catch the game live, trying to decide whether to wait for the broadcast tomorrow on TV or pull it up later today. Just looking over the comments sounds pretty negative for a road win against what I would say is a somewhat solid Hopkins team. Sounds like the offense still needs to figure some things out, but again I'm loving this defense. Go Cuse!

Solid win but your gonna wanna jump off your roof at some of the dumb mistakes and sloppy play.

This place is truly insane :) We held an ok to good lead through the whole contest, it was pretty obvious JHU wasn't going to catch us. Appreciate the increased game speed and letting it fly eatrly on, it's needed longterm.

If Bryan Hodgson comes here and pushes the pace in hoops you're gonna lose your minds whenever we miss a quick 3.

Back from the game. Congrats to Cuse for a tough win.

Read through everything and lots of good points.

Both teams looked sloppy in warmups and it showed especially early in the game, but both teams looked sloppy throughout. Felt like both teams looked at the weather today and thought they'd rather watch Netflix in bed than play a lax game. Great crowd at Homewood. Stadium felt pretty full.

Neither team looked particularly great. Both defenses were pretty locked in and I thought both goalies has some really solid and timely saves throughout.

It evened out a bit but Hop was outshooting Cuse by a lot - just not putting many on cage.

Cuse D did really well matching feet with the Hopkins offense which then allowed them to optimize their clear size advantage. Collison got his yes but only 4 assists for JHU. That's a huge credit to this Orange defense. Hopkins was never going to win by dodging on this unit but Syracuse did an excellent job preventing the Jays from moving the ball around effectively.

The JHU defense plays hard and did well on individual matchups. Thought it could be a big game for Leo, McIntee, and Hahn and, well, lol. Can't always be right. But 8/12 goals were assisted for the Orange. That's a positive sign.

Hopkins plays a very slow, deliberate offense that is usually pretty efficient and it burns a lot of clock. My overall assessment of the offense is more positive than some following that game - they clearly had their eyes up more. There were long stretches when the orange O barely had the ball. Tough to get in a rhythm that way, but this won't be the last time they play a game that way. They'll have to learn to value possession and create efficiencies when they can't sling 50+ shots on cage. They are an excellent team with a time of possession advantage, but they need to learn how to be excellent when that is not the case.

Lastly, great performance by Joey. 4&3 vs a top 15 team. However - this was my first time seeing him play live in 2 years. It's wild to me how much more hot-headed he is in-person than what you can see on the TV. I think he actually cleaned it up and got his head together as the game went on, but man in that first half he's lucky he only got the one or two penalties. Lots of cheap shots away from the ball and very clearly trying to pick fights. I like Joey a lot, and he had a very good game, but Refs are going to get more and more wise to it if they aren't already. He's a senior. Gotta put that side of you away and be a leader.

Overall, this was a solid win. Hop plays a style of game that could've posed serious challenges for the Orange and they fought through it to get the win. Even after last week's epic comeback it never really felt like Syracuse's lead was in danger. Cuse's record is right around where I thought they'd be. Can't take this Colorado road trip lightly.

Kittleberger is picking up more and more each week. You can see him getting more and more comfortable
As a result of TMac playing more SSDM and Kittelberger coming into his own, I think they need to completely lean into being a defensive team. It’s not typical of a Cuse squad, but it’s clear the defense is the better unit right now

Haven't checked the Hop Board over at fanlax yet - my fellow Blue Jays are probably pretty apoplectic but their season is by no means off the rails.

Well one of the regulars who seems to have all the answers is certainly letting that be known.

I agree with you no reason Hopkins can't spilt their B10 games this season.

i really liked seeing rawson kraftson getting runs also. Think we should keep doing that as need least 2-3 guys out of hottle hahn mcintee rawson bear n kraftson to step up n be scoring threat consistently game in n game out. They all been very quite last few games.

Also now think bout it offense really hasn’t had a game cupcake game to really play with each other without some much pressure or build chemistry. As with this schedule is just been stud team after stud team after stud team. Usually first few games are cupcakes n we score ton. But also feel those games help build some chemistry as not as strong D usually n not as much pressure. While the young guys can build some confidence also.

Why think vs air force they really need to work on actuall plays or things they wanna do. Not saying take it easy on air force but should be able to do things easier then have vs other teams. Kind gives chance to work some things out n prepare. Cause denver has solid D n goalie. So def need to figure this offense stuff out asap.

Gotta remember were hoping for a title push. Expectations from 2 years ago or even last year are way higher. The offense has also been in a rock fight to get to double digits for the 3rd game in a row. Hard to expect rationale in game thoughts when we're a hot mess offensively and have 3+ offsides calls.

Also vs air force think we should give angelo least 5-10 chances at X. Really need him to find some kind of groove or get reps to get better in game speed. Believe he was 2-3 today n cause mullen was good today not jumping. Don’t wanna take johnny out of groove he’s starting to build but need angelo to get reps n better also. Winning ball specially with this D is huge when have lead late in game n to help stop comeback.

Of course, and you know I am having fun with some of you on this.

They went to the FF last year, team knows they cannot go backwards. And frankly as a program this might be it for a while.

Everyone they play is really good, this schedule is a bear, they of course need to figure out the third attack (and they're good enough to run through this gauntlet figuring it out on the fly).
