Second-seeded Syracuse (13-2) continues its quest for a 12th NCAA championship on Sunday, May 17 when it meets Big Ten champion Johns Hopkins (10-6) at noon at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in the NCAA quarterfinals. The game marks the 13th postseason meeting between the Orange and Blue Jays. Syracuse defeated Hopkins at the Carrie Dome back in March, 13-10.
One Marist defender darted to Weston, another to cover a cutting Dylan Donahue in the middle of the zone, but Evans had the ball the whole time. The deft fake left him alone with Red Foxes goalie Dave Scarcello, and the sophomore midfielder stepped into a shot that whizzed past Scarcello’s left shoulder and into the back of the net.
The goal gave the Orange an early three-goal lead amid a 10-0 SU run. More importantly, it was Evan’s second of five goals and one of many plays that punctuated a breakout performance.
“We’ve been waiting for him to break out,” SU head coach John Desko said. “…so I think it’s perfect timing.”..
