Is it at all surprising? It always seemed like it was going to get here. Also, that someone as sleazy as Lane Kiffin would potentially be at the heart of it (if the rumors that it was LSU swooping in with the mammoth offer to Williams turn out to be true)?

Let's hope Washington has been lilly pure in their dealings with players from other teams.

It's not surprising at all. I'm just saying once the sport is wrapped up in litigation it will cease to exist.

Every school is sleazy. The mammoth offer doesn't matter as he has a contract.

This is why I hate when people call it a professional sport now. What is allowed to happen in this circus is an insult to professional sports.
 
I am a little confused by this. Because unless something changed. I thought contracts could not be signed as that would make it pay for play. So I’m a little confused on this contract. I’m sure it’s for his payment but they I was under the impression they can’t say it’s for playing football at Washington.

They might have to rethink taking it to court, because to prove their case they are going to have to admit he is an employee, and not just a student. And that would then with smart agents allow the players to form a union which is what the conferences don't want.
Because then the players would be able to look at all that revenue the conferences are getting and demand their share.
That would really do a number on the SEC, and Big.
That's where this very well might end up .

Can there really be any rules without collective bargaining? Which means a union.

Can't he sugn the contract as an independent contract? Aren't all athletes today signing agreements for revenue sharing payments?

Total Chaos. Tampering has become a way of life.

Footnote: Washington has no obligation to put him in the portal. Also, his contract gives Washington total discretion on the size of his buyout.
