HOUSTON

Not a single vote. Shame
It'll be tough for SU to crack the top 25 this year. Of the currently ranked top 25, Tennessee (home) and UNC (home) are the only realistic potential wins. There will be some very good ACC teams that currently reside outside that group, but we would have to win a substantial number (maybe 75% or more) to create some top 25 excitement and positive interest from the voters. Hopefully we do enough to make the tournament which would be a big step in the right direction.

Nah. We just need to have a good record and keep up the good defense.

I watched the condensed game and got a similar impression to you

Syracuse can win the game with defense, if they play great defensively...to stop houston, Cenac and flemings are the keys. stop/limit those 2 and I predict an SU win. easier said than done, though, obviously.

i really like the idea of freeman vs cenac...this is a great chance for donnie to make a splash nationally .SU recruited Cenac and this offseason I saw his tape and he was the one recruit I really wanted. he was an absolute beast vs Auburn. wow. but he is just a freshman and cannot play perfectly every game. im not uber confident freeman can outperform cenac but it is possible. IF freeman can play better than cenac, SU will win, imo. but maybe Kyle or even white will guard him or maybe even suare...but he is key...OTOH donnie has to stay in it mentally if the early part of the game goes cenacs way...

and the guard flemings is so good too...but
i think white has to play big minutes and I think he can cover him.

overall, the houston auburn game was crazy athletic but also very high level and intelligent ball from the highlights. it will be a tall task for the orange, no doubt.

I think SU has a deeper team in terms of offensive weapons, which will be the case all year and is a big advantage...I think they can throw more at houston in terms of different options. If they find an option that is cooking...need to keep feeding it. and same with the D. red really needs to win the chess match...and imo he has more pieces than sampson. sampson has great pieces, dont get me wrong, but this SU team is deep. esp with JJ back, which i expect will be the case.

im also very curious to see how kiyan reacts. if he can do what hes been doing vs this level of defense, watch out! im 50/50 on that...I think he will do well...but it could go either way.
Kiyan I suspect will be fine, he has been under pressure his entire life , because of his parents. The person that worries me is JJ until he proves that he is willing to be a role player and not the star, we won't know how good this team is.

i dont think it will be a mental issue for kiyan but a physical one, if so.

these top teams are just another level physically

Houston has been the cream of the crop in college basketball for almost a decade. They’ve yet to win a title but they’ve put themselves in the conversation seemingly every year recently.

This will be a serious test. I don’t expect to win. Honestly keeping it to single digits might be a win. If we can get over 65 points, I’d call that a success as well. I certainly hope we can make it a game and at least put some pressure on them to execute late, like Auburn did. Would be a great time for Kingz to have a 5-8 from 3 shooting game.

Again… Houston is an elite college program with a combination of experienced players, experienced coaching, and several athletic and physical players, as well as young guns.

Will be a hell of a test and for once in seemingly awhile I am looking forward to it.

In the meantime let’s get to 4-0!
Kingz is capable of that. It certainly would be a great game for Cuse to catch fire from beyond the arc.

Our B+/A- Game offensively next week might be enough to go 2-1. It’s certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

If that happens, we will likely have beaten Kansas and will be ranked about where they are now, because we will have two top 25 wins plus 4 blowouts.

Then our ACC schedule for the next five or six games is very favorable.

So there are a lot of “ifs” but if we can play well and go 2-1, we will likely be ranked for a while.

I can’t stand Sampson but I really appreciate they have a brand and style they continue to stick with.
They play such great defense. SU is greatly improved on that end. So, no matter what, take the over because, we'll nothing is as unpredictable as a college basketball game except maybe, a teenage girl.

Nc state is sitting at #25 right now and can barely put away VCU at home. Double digit favorites and feels like they’re getting a lot of help from the refs.

We need them to win for the ACC but no way I’m worried about them.

Agree, they look pretty sloppy and seem to want a pound it in the paint over and over, without polished post scorers. Poor shot selection. The last five minutes Copeland‘s been bad. They are getting a lot of put backs and VCU continues to miss wide-open threes. They got a lot of preseason hype but looking at this game, They are not the fourth best ACC team.

Yea agree on everything. I thought they looked gassed too. If people thought Autry wasn’t running offense or defensive schemes they need to watch nc state play.

VCU missed a whopping 29 three-point shots. And NC State crushed them on the glass and had 14 offensive boards. They are big and physical in the paint, but not necessarily dynamic..

VCU had a ton of offensive rebounds and second chance points. They killed NCS all night on the offensive glass. NCS plays like a wild pickup game. I’m not sure they run any offense. They will not beat a top team playing the wild and reckless way they do. They turn it over a lot with horrible passes and plain carelessness. Wade stands on the sidelines and does nothing to reign them in. Not impressed at all.
