How about no minutes for Westry, McLeod or the walkons?

There are 8 guys that have played more than 190 minutes this season: Lucas, JJ, Jyare, Elijah, Donnie, Chris, Eddie and Jaquan. Jaquan leads all players in mins played with 352. The four guys that are under 190 mins played are WAY under:

Petar (82), Kyle (54), Naheem (11), Chance (10). These four I won't count towards any stats because those mins are so low that it's really tough to discern anything from the numbers (all for the eye test, for example, we know Naheem can't play 40 mpg from watching).

But for the 8 guys that have played 190 mins or more, Carlos is:

7th out of 8th in PER (7.8). An average player is supposed to be at 15.0. The only person lower than him out of the 8 is Lucas. That PER is abysmal.

His TS% is last out of the 8 (43%) and his eFG% last as well (36.3%). Those percentages are abysmal for anyone that plays, let alone starts, let alone has the most minutes played. Abysmal.

His BPM is last of the 8. The only starter in negative numbers (Lucas is negative, too). His BPM is -2.3.

Regular stats: FG% is last of the 8 at 33.9% (insanely awful). His 3PT% is 21.4% (needless to say, anemic).

In the end, every minute Jaquan is playing is a losing minute for us. We are starting the game with an anchor around us. Every. Single. Minute. If he is playing, we are losing.

I have no idea how ANYONE thought he was going to be good. Besides the out-of-the-world historically bad stats that we have all you have to do is see him play, especially in person.

Anyone yearning for Jaquan to continue to play a lot, especially at this level, is rooting for us to lose.
Apparently assists and turnovers are meaningless in your statistical wonderland. Maybe quote something on them.

Regarding the assist number being higher if guys could score, his job is also to run the offense in a way that puts them in position to score. He usually hands off the ball as soon as he gets to the half court. Or he dribbles into the trees and gets stuck there.
It’s also on the shooters to get themselves open, and the coach to run plays for them.

I agree but he was supposed to be our starting center! That’s a concern that two straight years the emergency grab guy is starting and guy who “was supposed to be a starter” is not on the team. (Carlos and Leffew this year)

That excuse can’t keep being used every year
I agree it can't be used as an excuse every year.

The Carlos circumstances are much worse.

Even if shooters get open Carlos isn't big enough to see and get the ball to them.

Well since there isn't, and has never been, much of an offensive system here the staff needs a PG who can create offense on the court by driving and taking his man 1-on-1 off the bounce. Which seems more of a problem looking for a solution than a solution looking for a problem.

Good observation!

You have to pamper these kids nowadays remember discipline is frowned upon this is the new age.
Yes.. and that's unfortunate.. I hated Indiana but always admired coach knight, he spoke at many basketball camps I attended in my junior high and high school years.. I liked what he said he looked for and required in a player, and the first time I heard him speak was the summer of '87 just months after Indiana beat 'cuse for the title.

Wouldn’t this be a game to give Westry and McLeod some time to work on things? And the walkons are on the team too. Deserved some minutes.
It seems apparent now that McLeod's one good game in college was against SU two seasons ago - sad for numerous reasons.

It’s becoming painfully obvious that Westry is not going to play a role on this year’s team. The injuries must have really limited his abilities.

McLeod has been a colossal bust. It's unbelievable that a guy his size, with his strength and athleticism, can provide no contribution whatsoever. Teams take the ball right at it despite eating 7 ft 4, he's a negligible rebounder, and doesn't seem to have any capability to score. With his size and athleticism, he should be dunking on Alonzo morning. Instead, he's un- playable.

I expect Westry to transfer this off-season.

McLeod last yr moved soooo much better. The foot surgery or whatever the heck he had, turned him into a very poor basketball player.

That's a bummer. Unless he outright sucks in practice I don't think Westry has gotten enough minutes to pull the plug.

It was obvious a month ago.

Maybe by the end of the season he could play himself into good enough shape to be a bench piece next year.
