How can you call that TO

Because Shafer is not a Head Coach. He isn't. At least not a good one. I have lost all respect for him when he punted on the 4th and 1. I knew our defense was going to give up that TD. I hate Scott Shafer as a Head Coach. He has no balls.

I'm not even going to watch OT. I don't care if we win. I don't want Shafer as a Head Coach anymore. Put him back to defense coordinator.

The coaching strategy in the second half was unbelievable. Conservative play calling, changing QB's, etc. Show some confidence in your kids for gosh sakes. Good thing they won or the coaches would be under even more criticism. Without a doubt, that will go down as one of THE WORST TO'S CALLED IN FOOTBALL HISTORY and I've been watching football for about 55 years. Just my two pennies worth.

The guy is seriously straight out of 1972. Soooo conservative. Pretty much the the last guy in the world you'd expect to be smart enough to implement a high variance strategy to pull a big upset against say, LSU.

I don't agree with how it transpired, but; don't watch any more games.

You might just be onto something there. There will be a hell of a lot less hair pulling over just, ridiculously bone headed decisions made by some one who keeps showing in crunch time the moment is to big for him.

These are bad decisions that should be made by a 1st year coach. Ill give a little lee-way to a 2nd year coach. But this is his 3rd season.

Made no sense at all, you have team that is reeling, you let them get set and draw up a play, mindboggling.

Good riddance.

I know i am in the minority but I liked the timeout. I thought Coughlin should have called one as well. At least Cuse won.

Their coach was calling for the qb to spike the ball to stop the clock. Their team was in total disarray with 10 seconds to go and weren't even at the line of scrimmage yet. Let's stop the clock and give them 2 chances with 10 seconds to go instead of having them burn 3rd down with the spike. Mindboggling. Consolation is they probably score on 4th down anyway.

Good Riddance indeed. I completely missed the first half because I was at work. I watched the entire 2nd half except for the final seconds before OT. And didn't watch any OT. Whenever I watched any of that game, our team's tackling and coaching decisions left MUCH to be desired.

I was pissed about the timeout but the defense was all out of whack. If they got a pass play off it was going for 6. Defense lost its composure and shafer needed to get them back into position. The td pass was covered well. The qb made a perfect throw. On top of it the defense was out there the whole second half

He did call for the spike but then they realized they had more time than they thought. I think it was closer to 20 seconds when he got to the LOS than 10 seconds.

You could be right about the time. But my point was they were going to be facing 4th down after the spike. Instead we gave them the opportunity for 2 plays by calling the time out.

Dude, I'll question a lot about this game (especially on defense and the fourth down) but I sat in the end zone and our guys were going to be out of position pretty bad if we didn't call a TO.

Yes, but they were never going to spike it once they saw they had more time than they thought so they still would have two shots at it.

The only way I can rationalize it is he thought the D was either confused/set up wrong, or they were gassed. :noidea:

Thought you left?

It WAS a bad half.

You mean the jail break, Hail Mary into quadruple coverage? We should have never let them draw that up!

You know what? I was upset about the TO. But if they needed it for the defense then maybe.
Bottom line is it all worked out in the end and we are 3-0. Sometimes the ugliest of wins end up being the best and most important. We shall see come December.

Forget about balls - he has no sense.

It's nice that he speaks the same language as the locals and has brought in some good recruits. But I've got no faith in him as a head coach. Awful day for Shafer.

Can't call timeout there under any circumstance. Can't give the offense time to regroup with the clock moving and they having zero timeouts. And if the defense wasn't prepared for that play that's coaching. Coach them up better in training camp and/or during the week in game prep for situational football.

The regroup that led to a jailbreak Hail Mary into quadruple coverage? Hell of a regroup
