How do the pro scouts view Battle.

He has a negative assist to turnover ratio, his shooting numbers aren't great, and he has below athleticism for a 2 in the NBA.

But it only takes one GM to believe in him.

I'm not entirely sure he gets much better than he is.

He's a great college player and I love him on our team and is scoring some points, but everything else isn't NBA material. I think Mali was a much bigger prospect and he was late first round.

This.

Actually it only take Tyus to believe that one GM believes in him. I think he's more of a scorer than a shooter, more Lawrence Moten than GMAC. he doesn't have consistent NBA range. he jsut looks to get open and score, (I actually like that type of player more). He's got good size and can play defense, which put shim ahead of most SU players. But he's got broaden his game with rebounds, assists, steals the occasional block. if he's not going to be a three point specialist, he's got to sell the NBA on his whole game. Right now he's one-dimensional. It's a very good dimension, (scoring), but it's not enough.

But if some one in the NBA indicates they might be willing to draft him...

I also think at some point with our reputation with drafted players it may hurt us with their lack of successes.

Waiters may be the most successful the past decade and he hasn't lit the world on fire, especially for where he was drafted.

Waiters has been good.

Ennis is still in the league.

Lydon & Richardson just left and while you may have written them off already, I don't think their teams have.

Not all-world players but based on their rankings coming out of high school, were any of them sure-fire, can't-miss guys?

So you have to ask, why would any NBA team draft a player with a flawed stroke, average (in NBA terms) athleticism, and unknown defensive abilities in the first round ?
Because a second unit scorer on a rookie deal is a lot of bang for the buck under the current salary cap.

Eh... there are better comps to use for shooter than GMac.

Allonzo Trier has stepped up his game big time. He rebounds and passes better. Doesn’t turn it over as much. That UA-ASU game was a dandy last night. I haven’t seen guards get up and down like the ASU guys in quite some time. Maybe Jay Wright’s most talented and quick team would be right there with them. It took Arizona everything they had to keep scoring and win and they are a good defensive team. Ayton was just too much. Anyways, Trier had 23 pts, 4 assists, 0 turnovers, and was 9-9 from the FT line. That’s against great guards. Obviously Arizona has a much more talented lineup than SU and Ayton takes a lot of attention away from Trier but on the big stage Trier was great.

So who else is competing with Tyus to be drafted? Miles Bridges (he can do everything and sort of positionless which gives him a big edge these days), Vick on KU, Grayson, Trent? Anybody else?

Good point with respect to the lack of NBA success for our recently drafted players.

Love Battle as a college player. He will have to play the 2 in the NBA. Put me in the "not convinced" camp that Battle is athletic enough or good enough off the dribble to make it in the NBA as a 2 if he comes out now. On the other hand, he already has an NBA body and might have enough quickness to be a quality defender.

I think the change in rules is tailor made for great college players like Battle to test the NBA waters before making a decision/mistake.

Size and age are going to hurt Trier. I keep seeing him as a second round projection. Allen is a projected late round pick.

Just to be clear...Arizona is not a good defensive team this year.

Tyus will measure out well at the combine. His height, weight and wingspan are the prototypical NBA 2. I also think his vertical will end being very good.

I think ultimately his downfall will be that as a 2G, he isn't really a good passer and doesn't really make his teammates better as far as getting them open looks off driving/dishing. He's not selfish or a ball stopper, but for the most part, once he makes his first move he's looking for his shot. I think that's OK for being an NBA 2G, but then you better be an elite scorer. I think he's adjusting to being the main focus of opposing defenses and being face guarded. At the next level he won't have to deal with that.

We saw towards the end of last year that when he's a #2/#3 option, he is very dangerous.

I think he has decent handle, a decent shot (with the hitch like some of you mentioned), a decent penetrator. He has the ideal NBA size/length. He's a below average passer.

When push comes to shove, it probably too early to tell. If he struggles throughout ACC play, he's a 2nd round guy. If ends up 1st or 2nd team All-ACC and has a good NCAA tournament, I think he oculd sneak into the late teens/early 20s.

Right now I just don't think he has an elite trait. You could argue Waiters, MCW, Ennis, Lydon, Mali and McCullough all had at least one thing about them that made them special.

I love Tyus and think he will have a great season, but it's hard to say where he fits into the draft right now. I do think by March we might see O'Shae ahead of Tyus in mock drafts.

Agreed. My sentiment exactly

There is no way I see him coming back for one more year. If he did, we would be terrific.

Is this because you think he is gone regardless of what options he realistically has, or because you are confident that he will end up being a first round draft prospect?

I think he's going to leave, but I also think he could go undrafted

Mcw was a McDonald's all American who while being rookie of the Year is almost out of the league. Ennis and Waiters were highly recruited, Grant is playing well for a fringe rotation guy but won't be much more.

Isn’t Trier like 6’5? What is wrong with his height for a SG? Is Alkins projected anywhere?

My point was that Battle can hit the three, but he's not a specialist in that regard.
Will he be able to hit the three from nba distance with that hitch in his stroke ? He does not hit a great percentage from college distance.

Highly questionable...

Maybe not for typical Arizona standards when they are Top 15-20 always. But, KP has their AdjD Efficiency at 50 after last night. That is good enough, IMO. ASU is ranked 99.

Back end first round to undrafted. I’ve seen Trier’s height anywhere from 6’2” to 6’5” which makes me think he’s a bit on the small side.

Late first to early second rounder. His combine measurements will be near the top in just about every category for his position. He can shoot well enough, albeit streaky. He has solid ballhandling and can beat guys off the bounce. Okay finisher. Good defender.

Weaknesses are floor vision and over-aggressive decision making. He has some 'go-to' moves that NBA defenders will take away after seeing film. He has to show that he can make pays after plans A and B are shutdown.

Regardless, barring injury, he gone.

Yeah, I question his ability to hit the NBA three.
