Does Northwestern end up with a winning record? Will they give up 600 yards against everyone or is our offense that good? How many of those explosive plays will work against USC or the rest of our schedule? Just wondering.

They will likely be playing for the NC in January.;) Who knows how good anyone is right now?

That's a great question that no one on this board can honestly answer. People will assume they suck because we dominated them especially offensively. The truth is that no one knows

Even if they aren't that great we did exactly what a good offensive team would do to a bad team. No one saw this kind of offensive output coming even if they had been playing Stonybrook. This team has a darn god offense, the offensive line was down right fantastic. It wasn't good it was fantastic. Once again no one saw that coming.

But how good?
Again no one on this board knows for sure. The great thing about new seasons is that they bring many surprises. Many preseason number ones have ended up unranked at the end of the year. Their coach is also a very unproven commodity.

Yeah. Who knows. I think their offense is pretty good. Mark and that backup QB are very good. Prob a .500 team at best.

3rd quartile.

Probably about the same as the past few years. A middle of the road B10 that will score lots of points, maybe pull an upset and beat the teams it should but not anyone else. Their DB's are horrible though they must have thrown quite a blanket on the last drive as Nassib never looked like he even had a receiver downfield.

NW should be a bowl team and maybe knock off a marquee Big 10 (or whatever the hell that conference is called now, B1G?) or two

That last drive Lou Alexander got dominated every play and Nassib didn't have time to look downfield. They were rushing 3 and every time the ball was snapped their DE was already in the backfield. Lou is the weak spot on the line, and once Pugh comes back I think the line will be the best we've had here.

Northwestern has the fewest returning starters in the Big Ten and they sure didn't look like a good team last Saturday. It's hard to judge exactly how good a team is going to be during the season from one game but I doubt that we will see any of our remaining opponents play such inept pass coverage. Inexperience might have had a lot to do with their defensive performance but it seems like Pat Fitzgerald has got a lot of work to do to lead this team to a winning record (7-5).

I loved our offensive performance last weekend but I don't expect to see SU pile up that kind of offensive yardage again. We were in a situation where we had to throw the ball and everything really clicked for the Cuse during our comeback.

I'm driving to Jersey for this weekend's game and am hoping Syracuse can upset Southern Cal. I think we are going to see a much different offensive approach against the Trojans. They have a great group of defensive backs and I expect Marrone to try to attack them with a short passing game. Nassib isn't going to have the kind of time to throw he had last week and it is going to be a lot tougher to get open on deep routes against this unit.

Go Cuse!

Would not be surprised if Phillips, who subbed for Alexander at times on Saturday, gets more playing time at RT this week...

I saw that and 3 guys rushing and that much pressure really bugged me. I didn't realize it was Alexander that got blown up each time.

Northwestern has a good offense and if they can get into a flow they can beat anyone in the Big 10 but they can also lose to anyone there as well.

They're not that good. Can't see th being any better than 500 probably worse
Phat...physically and statistically we beat the hell out of them. We lost that game far more than NW winning it. Fluke INT, punt return for a TD, long punt return setting-up another, Smith's blunder on the lateral and our missed 44 yard FG attempt. Eliminate just one of those plays and we win. Eliminate three or more and it's a blow-out.

That being said, I think NW will surprise some teams in the Big 10 as long as they stay healthy.

IMO they are the 8th best team in the B1G. They are a decent well coached team. Their O is difficult to defend and our D effort should be getting more praise than is has. The NW pass D is awful. Might be the worst pass D we face all year, including Stony Brook. Which is why I cannot wait to see how we play against Minny. USC you cannot judge fairly. Stony Brook I anticipate that we will try and establish the run and work out the kinks in our run game. So I expect to see something like 31 points and 350 yards that game. So IMO Minny will be the first game that we can really judge the O.

Exactly.

Not a great team. Not a bad team. A BCS team capable of going to a minor bowl.

They are 1 point and 1 game better than us at this time. That's all we really know.

I hope we didn't play our best game offensive game of the season in a loss.

The playstation offense that we saw Saturday needs to be put in perspective.

I remember after Oklahoma 94 that people were saying SU was back because we "should have" beat the #16 team. Turns out the Sooners were overhyped and quite mediocre that year... and so were we.

All the yards in the world don't change the fact that we still lost to what is undeniably a mediocre Northwestern squad. We still made plenty of characteristic mistakes that mediocre teams are known for.

behind usc , better than stoney brook
probably worse than UL, USF when they play well
probably better than Minn

cincy/rut/pitt/temple/Miss/uconn all about the same as NW to me..

pitt looked awful all game. rutgers look OK on D and the same crappy look on offense but better skilled. USF looked confused but Daniels made some plays. only UL looked solid but Kentucky is a mess again.
