Defensive players faking injuries to slow down the no-huddle?

was there a rule put in place to protect against this happening? i thought i recall seeing some rule changes?

Or defensive players removing their own helmets to accomplish the same thing.

The coaches tell players to stay down if their helmets come off. Gives them a free break. I think it actually happened to one of the SU players during USC (MPB).

What do you mean by a free break? If play is stopped due to an injury, the player has to come off the field for at least one play, same as if his helmet comes off.

I was thinking about this last night. Are there any rules in place to prevent guys from ripping their helmets off to stop a big play?

Rishard Anderson lost his helmet and began to run off the field. Someone must have yelled at him, because he threw himself down on the ground for a second. Then he must have felt silly, so he jumped up and ran off the field.

It gives everyone else a free break, as opposed to the player just running off the field because he lost his helmet. I'm not sure how the rule works in terms of stopping the clock to make the announcement and restarting it, but I'd imagine an "inury" stoppage lasts much longer.

I bet this aspect of the rule gets some scrutiny in the offseason, with teams being penalized by timeouts (ala late game injuries) or delay of game calls.

I mean a stoppage in play for all players. I'm aware that the player has to come off the field for a play.

It was Ri'Shard Anderson.

Send in a walk-on and have him take his helmet off just before the play.

Yes. Taking of your helmet (or another players) on your own during play is unsportsmanlike conduct 15 yards. Doing it a second time gets you DQ'd and in the locker room.

This sounds so much like a Rutgers move and something they would do. Pathetic but I definitely could see them doing something like this.
