Supposedly reasonable people lie about being agnostic on a coach who needs to get fired
gotta give him time to get his guys
install his own system
uphill battle for him, have you seen the shower heads , other schools have much better water pressure
bumps in the road learning on the job
is it time yet?
no not yet
ok gotta see how the young players grow it's all about development
is it time yet?
yeah now it can be said
well sure it was an obvious mistake and the writing was on the wall the whole time

Hindsight is 20/20. The hiring decision was fine. He’s been better at the part that was the problem, recruiting and portal usage. We just didn’t expect him to be as bad at the coaching part as he seems to be.

Probably time to move on to somebody different and probably somebody outside of the ‘family.’

The latter JB years and the in house replacement years were always going to be a prison sentence we just had to endure. just gotta endure our time and get out of here in one piece before the Sisters get to us. Remember that hope is a dangerous thing.

Another season after this one. Then we can move on.

I think this sums my opinion as well. Outside Syracuse hire and hopefully someone with at least 5-10 years HC experience. We'll see.

The hiring decision wasn’t fine. It was a bad hire on day one and continues to be a bad hire.

it was not hindsight.

Unfortunately I believe you are correct. There will be some pressure when no one is in the Dome. I just hope Red doesn't have a Dino 'excuse' job saving type yr next yr where the team gets 20 wins next year and no NCAAs and convinces JW that they will be even better the following year.

“The hiring decision was fine”.

We were a top 20 program that did no outside search and promoted a guy who never was a HC before and was around for the final few years where the program was falling apart.

The hiring decision was lazy. We had NO OUTSIDE INTERVIEWS.

If JB left after back to back final 4s sure promote Red. But we were a disaster and Red was part of it. There were 100s of coaches that deserved this shot before him.

No one else was hiring Red unless it was a mid major: we handed him the job on a silver platter

This. Been saying it all along

You know the answer. Red will get next year. He won 20 his first season and beat all expectations. He has landed the best recruiting class in over a decade for next year. Choppa and Donnie are excellent players to build on. JJ our best player is out, if he played, we win today. JW isn't going to fire Red after this season unless there is a major problem. He will not be fired based on this season won loss record. Sit back, hope that Red goes with the kids who will be back next season and keep reading about our incoming recruits and the fact that Melo is going to have major influence.

I was happy with Red’s hire and giving him a chance until he hitched his career to Chris Bell and JJ Starling. That was horrible decision making from a defensive and analytical perspective. All I can think of is that Bell is sponsored by ROC nation and basically playing for free as long as he starts. The remainder of roster decisions have been equally perplexing. Also, let’s not forget the staff being called out as incompetent by Draymond Green of all people.

I do not regret not renewing my seasons.

Just like JB the supposed greatest recruiting class in SU history will buy Red another year just like it did with JB. It shouldn't we can all see that Red is a great person, great recruiter, and a great assistant head coach but he isn't a good coach at the P4 level.

I’ll always believe that Autry was the guy we needed to hire to get Boeheim out. For a few reasons.

Maybe that’s not the best way to hire a coach, but it likely was the best way to move on from the one we had who clearly did not want to leave. Ever.

So he gets the rest of this year and next. And then we’ll see.

This x100

Who is a realistic option to follow the current staff?

Just like Duke and North Carolina. Granted we aren’t those programs, but don’t act like it’s not been done. Ideally we would have done what Kansas did and they ended up with Bill Self.

If people are really honest, we should have moved on from JB 5 years sooner then we did, second he should not have had a say in who was taking over. Now we have this mess, we are a shell of our former selves, and this appears to be heading to an all time sh$&ty season. Having to endure this for another two years would be a travesty. I never ever thought I’d be more excited for spring football to arrive 4 months from now then a basketball season in the month of December, yet here I am.
