How the tide has turned.

He doesn't like coaching football?
He was brought in to do more than coach football. I'm glad he likes coaching football. But his job included fund-raising, glad-handing, etc. He has as much admitted he did not like that aspect of it. But it should not have come as a surprise to him.

Not quite sure what you're arguing for or against here...

Early 2013

Football team coming off of best season in over a decade. Management screwed up the coaching situation but what the hell, Marrone was a jerk and Shafer is a true "college coach". We are going to lock the doors and kick ass.

Basketball goes to the final four. Disappointing performance vs Michigan, but all in all a great year.

Lax - makes it to the championship game, jumps out to an early lead but can't compete on face offs. 16-4 is still an excellent year.

HEY!! We're going to the ACC!!!

Two years later, Yeesh.

The pride of the Orange Nation rests on the shoulder of Ben Williams, Randy Staats knee, T Hunts leg, and Chris McCullough's knee, oops, scratch that, Kaleb Joseph's diminutive frame and Trevor Cooney's dead-eye accuracy, and the tender mercies of the NCAA.

Rough seas for the new AD.

I get the feeling that is how you look at everything. You probably say the same about rainbows and ponies.

Yep, that's me Mr. Negative.

You haven't been around here much, have you.

BTW - Marrone has since proven that he is a Grade A butthole and not nearly the genius that many made him out to be.

You think the 2013 schedule was more difficult? Get a clue.

He didn't inherit a pro QB, he inherited a Philly Prep school Wing-T QB with accuracy issues. They developed him into a potential pro.

They developed him in to a pro. It's amazing that they couldn't do that with another guy since they were so good at it. Nassib developed himself. And Marrone got the benefit of it. And in '13 we played real teams. If you think the ACC and the Big East on '12 were the same, you need to get a clue.

I think he loves it and loves the school. He didn't want to do the other parts of his job and that's why he left (recruiting, fundraising, etc.).

Let's not forget the $$$ as a reason of why he left.

Also - I don't think going to your boss and saying "hey - I really only want to do the 50% of the job I'm passionate about" flies too well with the powers that be. He's good - but he's not that good a coach.

The tide will turn again if Lester is a competent OC. If he is, then I like this coaching staff's chances.

If he isn't, then the entire staff will be replaced by the new AD.

As Marrone himself has said to recruits, "if you can play, the league will find you." Same holds true if you are a talented coach, and make no mistake, he is talented. He will absolutely get another head coaching job in either college or the pros because he is talented.
Talented how? He may be talented, but there's really no way of knowing for sure at this point. His role in bringing Syracuse up from the bottom of D1 was impressive, I won't deny that.

But I can't really figure out what he specifically does well. He's very well-organized and seemingly has an eye for good defensive coordinators. Although it is possible that he just got lucky with Shafer, Pettine and Schwartz falling into his lap. Aside from that...?

I think he wanted to leave. I think he wanted to get another head coaching job. He was 1 of 2. He'll be a head coach again and he made out like a bandit leaving.
A bandit? Or a fool? I was embarrassed for him seeing him coach offensive linemen at the combine.

And I don't see how you're so sure he'll be a HC again. The guy has made quite a reputation for himself. Whatever talent he has as a coach does not out-weigh the fact that he is nearly impossible to work with/for and cannot stay in one place.

What money? His contract? Had nothing to do with him leaving.

He's being paid $2M by the Bills for a year he won't work for them. He's also getting a paycheck from Jacksonville too. Double dipping. It's not bad. Of course I am not sure he will get a HC job but I think he will.

I think Marrone has probably asked himself if he had to do it all over again, would he leave the Bills. I bet the answer is , "Yes."

Nassib developed himself, who told you that, Donnie Webb?

Jesus.

Greg Paulus developed him.

No, Donnie didn't tell me that. He was froze out by our last a hole coach. Who also wasn't man enough to tell him why. And why couldn't our last coach, the former Bills coach, now o-line coach somewhere, coach up a qb that he actually brought in?

Because it's such a terrible job right now, right? Come on.

Didn't say that. The guy wanted out and given he could take $2M with him and so he left. I don't think he would stay if he want make in time and was able to decide again. Obviously, if he hadn't put that clause in his contract, he may very well have stayed.

Oh, so you're just making up then.

Got it.

I think that Marrone only left because he expected that he was going to land the Jets HC gig. So, he exploited a loophole, pocketed $2M on the way out the door, and went off to interview for his hometown team with the expectation that he'd quickly land on his feet in another head coaching job.

Only problem is, he didn't get that job. So it was a miscalculation on Marrone's part [if he wanted to transition right to another HC job]. And the longer he swung in the breeze interviewing for other team's vacancies, the more ugly details came out regarding his departure from Buffalo and the more his name got dragged through the mud.

I know that Marrone didn't like the situation at Buffalo, but I'm willing to bet that he wouldn't have opted out of his contract if he knew in advance that he wouldn't get that Jets HC gig [or any other HC job].

What? You obviously don't know anything about that situation. Your hero doesn't come off as much of a man. Maybe it's why the pros view him as not with the trouble.

I agree. I think the Bills are thrilled about how this all played out. Marrone, not so much.

You said Nassib "developed himself".

Got any basis for that?

How is any of that even relevant?

Get this through your head, he was listening because from his perspective the work environment was horrible. The dream job was anything but.

He wasn't on a path to bolt out the door at the first opportunity.
We know you love Marrone, so let it go, he wasn't a saint, and has shown he will bolt given the chance. He has run away from 2 jobs before he finished the job, it was just a matter of time before he left Syracuse.
