I know I may sound like a debbie downer but I am taking more of a positive criticism look with this team because I know the potential is there. And I personally feel offensive efficiency in the half court is our one and only glaring flaw right now. Are there little things that could make us better? Sure, But that is the biggest one. Its all about outscoring the opposition.

Having a true isolation star we get a B-.
KJO Scoop and Dion are the three guys to take over this roll. I think Triche is getting there and will be there by next year if not by the end of this year. No true STAR but the isolation is developing.

In terms of having a 3rd set piece option scorer we get a A with Triche and either Dion or Scoop joining him. Only reason we get a A and not a A+ is all three are guards.

In terms of having the solid 4th and 5th option for sets piecies I give us a B+ to A-.
Between Melo, CJ (mainly) there is good things there developing. They are starting to show signs of occasional isolation baskets.
Southerland has played himself out of the lineup but he will be back. And MCW, Rak could eventually break out this year with more experience and a second gear. Keita does his job and doesn't force shots.

Scoop, KJO, Dion, and Triche haven't been shooting the ball as a collective whole as good as last year, and we haven't even hit Big East play yet. That is going to improve. As will our offensive boards and valuing second chance opportunities instead of just throwing the ball off the backboard and hoping for a prayer.

Overall I would give us about a B in the halfcourt offense right now though. And about a 6.8 - I think we can litterally get 4 notches better B+, A-, A , A+ and perfection.

ewwww ... let's talk about our half-court defense ...

lol. Our halfcourt defense has been awesome.!!!

A- to A atleast, and maybe headed to A+ with consistancy.

You can have an excellent half court offense without a take you off the dribble, blow by kind of guy. The idea that you need one such person to establish a solid half court game is a flawed one. Bobby Knight had decades of teams that were solid in the half court while seldom possessing such a player. Look at the old Princeton teams. Its all about passing, setting screens, and making entry passes. Motion is the key. The second your guard starts pounding the rock into the floor at the top of the key the entire offense stagnates. The next thing you know, instead of a nice flow, you have a forced pass, an ill advised drive to nowhere.

without a significant low-post, back-to-the-basket presence and inconsistent outside shooting , we have to have more dribble penetration to either score directly, pass off to open big men for dunks or kick out to open guys on the wing. When we just pass the ball along the perimeter and settle for threes early in the shot clock we we are playing into our weakness. Our jump shooting inconsistency makes it that much more imperative to rebound well. And we should definately use the upcoming non-conference games to work on getting the ball down low to our bigs so they can develop better low-post skills. Half-court offense is clearly our achilles heal, something that is pretty ironic considering how many "scorers" we have.

this has always been Boeheim coached teams biggest issue I think, too much standing around
