Hurley

Clingan is really good

I haven't seen him a ton this year but hes been a non factor this half. A big dude for sure vut beyond battling for rebounds not seeing much.

I’ll add that many here rightfully called out JB for possibly costing SU the Duke game in 2014 following the fair charge call
That was the dumbest night in board history bar none. Otherwise reasonable people actually convinced themselves that JB getting tossed would somehow send a message and lead to more favorable block/charges for us going forward.

Better than Carey?
Channel 9 Scott GIF by The Block

Often his teams like Jay Wrights would back off some once the refs started to call it. Hurley hasn't seemed to figure that rubiks cube out...much like Dixon didn't.
I was just going to post that everyone's hero Jay Wright started it but backed off when the refs actually kept calling the fouls.

UConn was getting a very friendly first half whistle too.

His defenses have always done this and now they’re starting to call it, let’s see if he can adjust (he can’t). They’ve always hacked and now the refs are blowing the whistle. Miller, Cooley, McDermott, Shaka …. All much better coaches than Hurley. They also aren’t framing nutjobs.

They need someone like Judah. They have no one who can really get to the rim and penetrate through the defense.

Man Clingan is good though. He would be a monster in the zone.

Andre is a little wacky, loses his cool at times. Love his game still.

Not sure who can consistently shoot for them other than Hawkins, but other teams are staying on him. They would love to let Andre shoot 10 3s a game.

UConn can win when they get away with the bully ball. They do play aggressive, attack the glass, and are overall a long/athletic team. But they seem to lack a cohesion as an offensive unit.

Hopkins ate their lunch too, felt bad that Hurley left Karaban on him most of the night - he clearly had no chance

Friars up 9 with 3:53 to go. I've been watching Cooley since he was hired as HC at Fairfield. He would look great in Orange.
Cooley is PC Forever. Recruits the portal like no one else. Hopkins was stuck on bench at Kentucky.

Yep and now with the honeymoon start over Hurley will implode with the recent adversity. If they lose to Creighton the free fall may be on from being a surefire top 15 team.

Clingan plays 13 minutes per game, because Hurley is too hung up on wanting 5 guys who run around real fast out there.

He should transfer to Syracuse who will play him the 30-35 minutes he deserves, and he’ll put up 20 and 10.

His per 40 numbers are 25/18/5b. Honestly... insane. And that is not a guy who plays 2min in garbage time, where such an extrapolation has no merit.

Edwards and Sanogo are both gone next year. He could either chase guys around the perimeter next year or sit in front the basket with that massive wing span and get about 13 boards and 4 blocks a game.

He ain’t leavin UConn but he should

He plays 13 minutes per game because he's a freshman and has an All-American junior in front of him.

JB rarely if ever put SU in position to lose by his antics. The great ones know how to take a strategic tech to fire their team up or get the refs to even things out. Jim Calhoun was an all-time great at UConn because he knew when to get the T, and when to back off. Hurley doesn't have a clue. He's gonna cost a very good UConn team in March...and I'm here for it!
Weren’t there always a bunch of posters here who said JB pissed off the NCAA suits? Which is why we got hit unreasonably hard? And with “sanctions” being the common refrain when excusing our downward trend lines, I mean… is it an ‘extension’ to suggest JB put us “in position to lose?”

They were the road team in a tough environment and remained competetive. I don't think this Uconn team si amazing but some of the projected preseason top 10 teams like Gonzaga or Creighton are trending down and if uconn keeps winning they could get a 1 seed and not play anyone good until the Elite 8. Musselman acts like a putz too but recruits and wins more than Hurley players don't seem to mind it when the coach is really into it and loses his rag.

Meanwhile we get to give Boeheim another season in hopes that he can sniff the bubble again if Mintz returns. Wonderful.

On the football side it was the night of the Nassib NFL draft where many respected posters thought Nassib was a first round quality pick and were mad at Marrone for passing on Ryan.

There should be a H0t takes thread in the football forum, it’s almost unreadable.
