Let’s say the season is cancelled in the next 24 hours (and NOT delayed until spring 2021).

In terms of looking ahead, I actually think this helps a program like Syracuse more than programs currently ahead of them in terms of recent success:

1. The programs that have had greater recent success will automatically lose there top players to the next NFL draft. We likely won’t have to ever again see guys like Lawrence, Twyman, Etienne, etc. again. While you could argue we face the same outcome, our best players (Cisco, Trill, etc.) still needed one more strong season to prove to scouts worthiness of 1st-3rd round consideration. This could force them to return for another year.

2. On a similar point, our best players are only on the cusp of an NFL career. Provided the NCAA resolves the eligibility issue, it’s possible a player like Servais may still be able to come back and build his resume as a future draft pick. No way a player like Lawrence returns

3. Guaranteed eligibility for Chris Bleich.

4. The replacement schedule we were given was awful. We likely would’ve had another 3-4 win season. Regardless of the asterisk that is 2020, it would have been held against us to recruits.

5. Extra time for the dome renovation that hopefully precedes a marketing campaign to formally roll it out in 2021 to create the proper buzz and excitement it deserves.

6. An additional and even larger opportunity for this staff to utilize its strength of identifying under the radar talent without the ability for kids to camp and play high school football this year.

I’m not happy about a cancelled season and the health and safety of players and coaches is top priority. However I think if the staff can recognize this as an opportunity, this program has a chance to close the gap without having to play a game.

1- agree
2-doubt it ncaa always finds away to screw us
3- see above
4- the replacement schedule was fine we would of one more than 3 or 4 games
5. gotta have the money to take advantage of the down time in the dome i bet the only thing a lost season would do is allow ac to finish by end of the year
6- agree but i think mnost of this years class is accounted for

3. Guaranteed eligibility for Chris Bleich.

This is the big one for me, after seeing all these kids get their waivers to play immediately. Such bs. Maybe they'll come back for Bleich and say since there technically wasn't a season for him to sit out, he'll have to sit out 2021.

Also gives more time for our new OC and DC to get familiar with the personnel and implement their systems.

On #6, I’m referring to the 2022 class. If these kids cannot camp and will miss the 2020 season, this staff has an opportunity to identify talent by other methods. They’ve proved an ability to do it before, they’ll have an even larger opportunity come the next cycle.

Regarding Bleich. I predict the day after the season is cancelled, the NCAA announces his waiver request has been granted. Same for basketball and Griffin. And the NCAA wonders what so many hate it.

Agree with the OP except for the Dome, don’t know where the money would come from but now would be the time to do all phases and have her shiny for when the world gets back to normal

I agree. This is something that certainly helps us out. Gives the entire roster a year of physical development while potentially losing no one. The factory schools can still only start 22 kids so regardless if they have 2 major recruiting classes piling in at once, those kids still have almost no playing time to walk into for the most part. Would guess we maybe lose 1 player (Cisco) early and maybe a few seniors decide to graduate and leave but I'd assume the high majority would remain for Fall semester next year to grab a Masters on the way out.

This situation also benefits us in another way in that come next Fall when 2 classes of Freshman are all competing at the powerhouses, a lot of big time kids are going to be heading for the portal when they realize where they are in the pecking order. I wouldn't be surprised if Tommy's successor is brought in that way. A lot of 4 and 5 star QBs are going to be looking for better situations and we'll be as wide open as any P5 school in the country.

I think there’s a lot of truth to this, but there are also some disadvantages:

1. We lose a year of eligibility for Tommy. If he shows out in 2021 the way we think he can, he will bolt to the NFL. That was possible after this year, but after next year even more so.

2. We run the risk of losing impact seniors like Servais, Nykeim, Black and Hackett.

3. Our secondary loses a year of eligibility, which harms them in a similar manner to Tommy.

I look at #1 differently. As of this moment, Tommy has 2020 and 2021. If they cancel 2020, he could (if they don’t extend eligibility) only have one remaining season. We as fans should love nothing more than for Tommy to have a huge year and move on to NFL thereafter. However, think about the schools that currently have a rising senior and/or a highly ranked underclassman at QB who is a projected NFL draft pick. Those schools are facing an upcoming season (that could be 12+ months away) that will have to deal with a new starter at most important position. I take comfort in knowing who our guy will be whether that is 2020 or 2021.
