by Fabs mobility thus far in this game. He was literally all over the court and several times I said who is that because it was a big guy moving like a small forward. He had a couple nice blocks as of the first half and looks to be experimenting with a few offensive moves which is great to see.

I just said the same thing, aloud, to myself. His feet were practically 'chattering.' Different dude.

yup. if he keeps playing like this he will be receiving a very large check once the MBA gets its act together lol

Hopefully they can work with him on keeping his elbows in after a rebound. The last thing we need is him getting ejected in the first 5 minutes of a game for a scrappy elbow.

The one block in the first half he has looked effortless. Got off the floor so quick for the swat

Bring on Andre Drummond, his 280 lbs, convenient scholarship, and all!!

Sounds like a Ricky line from
last year. Even though it is against weaker competition he certainly is passing the eye test. It is a shocking transformation really.

well, it's not a rick line against non-conference, he was putting up 15-15's last year, but it's pretty good and a vast improvement from last year

true dat but I'll take it over last years line lol

I know I'm going to get smacked at what 1 observation (negative) I have in this Fab love-fest thread. But 1 issue I have with his play at this point ... and saw it in both games ... he gets the ball down low under the basket and doesn't go right up with it allowing the opponents to converge on him ... saw several missed shots b/c of this.

Now,letme say this before I get smacked too bad ... what an improvement from last year!! I know it was only Fordham and Manhattan ... but he's got good upside potential. I just wish he would attack that basket as soon as he gets his mitts on the ball ... could have had around 6 more points.

I do wish he went right up, but he's gotten hacked a lot with no calls on entry passes. He's also been wrapped up a lot by opposing teams. When we start playing good teams it will be interesting to see how he does.

yup. he's going to have to learn to control his temper and not get frustrated as he was getting abused in there. That certainly won't stop. Gotta hit those free throws too

Fab looked like Gus Siock last year. This year he looks like a basketball player. His defense in particular is way better. I can't wait til he flattens somebody with an elbow in Big East play. I nominate Andre Drummond.

haha. that would be nice... maybe in the nose again perhaps lol

This is something the coaches will have to work with him on. If he lets some small guys from Manhattan get under his skin, what is he going to do when someone like Drummond or anyone on Pitt hammer him a few times? Worries me that we may see him sit out a game somewhere along the line.

Well...yeah.

But heaven forbid a referee ever do his job and call a foul when our center is getting mugged by three people.

College basketball officiating is in disgraceful shape.

Yeah the reffing defenetly had some problems today. I hate when they let the underdog get away with garbage to make up for the lack of athleticism. Happened quite a few times today.

As long as Fab keeps his elbows in while swinging his hips or even charging he will be ok. However, any moron who gets his head by his sholders when hes rotating won't and thats on them.

I hear what you are saying, but where do you want the line drawn between letting them play and calling a foul? Look at it from both ends of the court not just Fab getting mauled. We like to talk about the Big East being a rough and tough conference. If it's that, then Fab needs to expect what we saw last night and learn to act accordingly.

For what it's worth, Tim Welch made the comment on TV that those three refs were among the best in the country and had officiated a number of NCAA games including the Final Four.

No, Fab doesn't need to expect a three man mugging just because he has the ball. In the Big East if three guys are all over him like that, it'll be called. He's gonna have a lot more one on one opportunities in conference play, and I think it's obvious he might be stronger than every center in the league except Drummond.

I think that's something that's correctable in-season. A lot of things you can look at and think that it will take an offseason to turn around, but I think training him to not bring the ball down is something that can be drilled during the season.

That's the standard "diplomatic way of excusing a terrible call by an official who has brought attention to himself that can't be ignored" by announcers.

How many times have we seen a dreadful block/charge get screwed up, then heard Jay Bilas or someone note that "Well...Jim Burr has officiated 19 Final Fours"?
