Nope. Beating P5 schools no matter how low is an accomplishment for a MAC school. And the other teams were not weakling opponents, they were conference schools - i.e. peer schools.

What they did offensively is impressive for any D1 school.
You may think so.

I think Baber's likes Mahoney and is OK with Wilson as workable.

I would be shocked to see Mahoney ever listed higher than 4th on the depth chart. He is a running back. Wilson will be ahead of him, maybe even 2nd.

We need another competent throwing QB this class so we have 4 capable QBs.

You don't think it's impressive that Bowling Green from the MAC goes into College Park in the 2nd game of the year and gains 700 yards?

Keep in mind that it was sandwiched between two MD defensive games allowing 300 yards or less. The game after Bowling Green was a fairly easy Maryland win against USF...yeah that USF.

If you're hanging that on a bad Maryland team, it's gets hard to find the objective part.

Aren't there more urgent needs for his system than a backup QB.

Well the first step of the rebuild is for this P5 program to be as good as the MAC program that he left. Not good as a P5 program but as good as his MAC team was. Not tough to figure that out.

Maryland was so bad that their coach , Tiny Dancer , was fired in the middle of the season.

If you don't think a MAC team hanging 700yds on ANY P5 team impressive - we should probably stop the discussion now. Not worth my time.

Yeah, I can see how much thought you put into your objective analysis.
Bowling Green is a high G5 team . They have been for a long time. Maryland lost all the great talent on offense from the previous year , had a terrible season and Randy lost control of the team . Do you think Maryland was focused on that game knowing the beat downs that were waiting for them in the B1G.

He'll be 3 or 4, behind Rex and Eric.
What are the reports on Rex bouncing back from his surgery? Will he be ready for spring practice?b

Not sure... No inside info.

Ok then explain the Tennessee game. Bowling Green put up 557 yards against a team that ended the year Top 25 in both polls.

1. We have scholarships to give

2. Who is to say they kid will be a backup his whole career?

Dungey is one hit away from being done. Culpepper is coming off an injury and is still an unknown. Wilson might be asked to leave after next season as he graduates. We have no depth at QB. Even if Dungey stays 4 years, a kid brought in this class will have the chance to start as a R-JR and R-SR. Why put all your eggs into the Culpepper basket? The goal should be to recruit over QBs every year. We can still go for a stud QB next year and only have 4 QBs on roster: JR Dungey, Soph Culpepper or new kid, R-FR Culpepper or new kid, FR stud QB. That would be proper depth. We need to take 2 QBs either this year or next. We shouldn't just take a kid for the sake of taking a kid. But if there is a decent kid out there, we should absolutely take him.

Doubt it, when there is only 1 QB on the roster that has shown the ability to be a viable starter and he missed 4 1/2 games in year 1.

Some people feel/felt that we should take 2-3 QBs this class due to uncertainty and lack of depth at the position.

I think you absolutely need one more QB this class. For depth purposes alone, how many times have we gotten to the bottom of that depth chart over the past 2 years?

This is even worse than the previous ones. So, you think that Maryland, knowing their conference schedule was very tough, didn't want to focus on the early season MAC game where they'd NEED a win?

And how do you explain the next week when they beat USF pretty easily. That same USF team that trounced us.

700 yards.

As I said...
