I feel both good and weird about this class

Scott isn't the standard that chicken salad should be set at. A very low bar. Ray Handley low. 4-8 with a few close losses isn't chicken salad. What will the standard be this year?

I read his “chicken salad” comment as him referring to what Babers has been able to do on the recruiting trails. Taking over a struggling program that was recruiting very poorly, and being able to bring in some better classes right away is not easy.

He is bringing in ACC quality players across the board.
He has a system and structure.
Dino is the best we could hope for.

I have seen enough to want him the rest of his coaching career.
I can't go near that far. I like what he is doing but he has to show he can bring in his own team and actually win more games than he loses three seasons in a row. He is a long ways away from accomplishing anything like that. how about he has one winning season before we give him a lifetime contract.

He was referring to playing with the players that the last staff left him. Not a lot of talent no doubt. And no one is rooting for the guy to be more successful than me. As I have for ever staff that we have had going back to Frank Maloney. But I need to see more before I give him a lifetime contract like Alsacs just did. I'm a fan and a supporter but want a little more evidence before that.

If we’re going to make excuses about our schedule we might as well go back to the Big East. 4 wins is not good, I think we’re on the right track but we lost at least 1-2 games that we shouldn’t have. Shafer would have won 4 games with our schedule.

Ill put my answer to your earlier question here and look at your last line...that 1 winning season or the bar, better be 6 Wins and a bowl this year.

I’m actually hoping for 7 and can see 8.

Because unlike how u like to point out how we went down the stretch (thus ignoring the QB situation) I feel...and like to point out...there will not be the drop off at the QB position if the starter goes down.

Maybe, even an upgrade...

Doubt it. I’ll give him 3, while being far less competitive on the whole. We took LSU, Miami, and FSU to the wire on the road. In the Shafer era, maybe one of those games is close while 50-0 is probably in play at least once.

Getting at Miami in a year where they’re actually really good again as our crossover in the same year we play at LSU is extra tough. Pointing that out and saying “we should just go back to the BE”...nah, there’s more than a fine line between those two things.

The ACC schedule will always be fairly tough but we won’t always get Miami and LSU on the road. See this coming year when we get UNC at home as our crossover.

Where do we see a grad transfer likely coming at position wise?

Personally WR and maybe S or OL? I think the other position groups when it comes to only the 2018 season feel pretty good.

Who's making excuses? Recognizing that there's been a progression from not being competitive against quality teams, to being competitive against them, and then eventually beating them is the path we're on isn't "making excuses," it's acknowledging that there is tangible progress that is on the cusp of being actualized.

lol I am not ignoring anything. I am just pointing out facts that you don't like. I'm also not willing to go as far as you as to say a qb I have never seen play, whose team was .500 in high school, is an upgrade over a 3 year starter here.

All of them?

Setting aside the chicken salad debate...

You have a program with an average win-loss record of approximately 4-8 over the last 13 seasons. And yet, we were able to play with (or beat) Clemson, Miami, FSU and LSU with marginal and undersized talent across the board.

And now, Dino is able to bring in what looks like the best class in 15-20 years. There is better size, some ACC level skill players, a few 4 stars, transfers and grads wanting to come here, and more than 1 option in the QB room.

No doubt, this needs to translate to a bowl for 2018. But, the feel from my seat is that the program is finally climbing out the abyss and that we can compete with just about anyone on the schedule. When is the last time anyone honestly felt that way other than with Marone in 2012?

Facts are hollow in sports when u don’t remember what you watched and understand what’s happening.

And dash, my misguided friend...I said maybe.

Let’s see what happens when we have a guy go through his coverage reads and not pull it down upon 1 quick look and run.

If this really is the best class in 15-20 years...

and we can redshirt almost this entire class...

we have the chance to be long term good instead of trying to scratch out bowl appearances.

Fair points. I think he could have gotten 4 and been completely crushed in other games like we saw against GTech.

I don't think I'm wrong though in saying, we are in the ACC, the constant complaining about our schedule is starting to just be an excuse. We absolutely had a brutal schedule but if we want to play big boy football we can't complain about playing in a tough league. I still give DB a pass overall because he is the best person we could have hoped for and I think we're on the right track. But we really have to stop complaining about the schedule, it is what it is. Was he going to win 8 games last year, of course not but 4 isn't good but that doesn't mean I think DB sucks or we aren't headed in the right direction.

When the facts don't support them, people try the old smoke and mirrors and call facts hollow.

Too critical. This past year, we went on the road at LSU, Miami, and FSU and could have easily won two of those. We absolutely blew winnable games against ETSU and Wake Forest.

This team was a lot closer to bowl eligibility than it might seem at 4-8. Depth and injuries caught up with them, accounting for the bottom dropping out the last three games. We're not as far off as it might seem. This staff is doing incredible things, on and off the field.

It was a really fun season

Love it.

Clearly you have nothing.

What are your ‘facts’??

Syracuse was just chock full of healthy talent and was favored to beat the reigning Heisman Trophy winners stocked team, top 25 teams and future bowl teams with the backup QB and a non existent D???

Got it.

My bad.

4-8 record. two blow out losses the last two games. Pretty simple stuff. even you should be able to grasp it.

That's fine. Let's not pretend that he made this team in to as you put it, chicken salad. He hasn't. He might turn out to be a coaching guru. We don't know yet. So far however, he has never built a team with his own players. Not at his first two stops and not yet here.

This is silly. We have proof of concept:

- evaluation of talent
- JUCO and grad transfers have mostly been upgrades
- best recruiting classes in a loooonnnggg time

If we beat #2 Clemson with Shafer’s guys (mostly)? I too would reserve the “guru” status until we’re more consistent... but I’ve seen enough to know he is the best evalutor > recruiter > team builder we’ve had since young P.

lol Don't ever go in to the Hedge fund business. We don't have proof of concept. Coach Babers has never built a team of his players in to a powerful team. Doesn't mean he won't. I say this as I am rooting for him as much as you are. I like him and think he is the right guy for the job. But, he hasn't done better than 4-8 here yet. And let's face it, the best recruiting class in a long time with this program isn't a high bar. Hopefully it will translate to more wins. And soon. All I am saying is that nothing has been proven yet. The Clemson game was great. The Va Tech game last year was great. Good for them. Good for us. But I'm not ready to break out the champagne just yet. A winning season or two might be in order before we do that or think it is out of line to withhold judgment just yet.

I completely grasp it.

I’m guessing u sold all your stock and got out the market forever Tuesday morning.

You know, because of those recent ‘facts’.

Lville was a scheduled loss in July; BC early November.

I get it, you think Mahoney was Hostetler, Foles etc.

I think he’s...well I won’t say because he gave his all.
