I hope Geno Thorpe watched our game last night...

Really? You don't see what he adds after a night like last night where Battle has to sit for 7 or 8 minutes with four fouls and JB plays HW because he feels like he has no other alternative?
No, I don’t. Genos minutes and production were going down not up in the OOC much less in conference schedule. I think he’d be a pretty limited role player at this point. I certainly don’t think he’d have been a hero. He played well in one game for us. ONE. Then quit.

If he comes off the bench for 10 minutes and makes a couple shots, we win.
Yeah but you know sports doesn’t work that way. It’s dynamic. The path would have changed in a myriad of ways.

Right. I think we’d be a better team with Thorpe though. Boeheim clearly doesn’t think Washington is ready. He only plays him when he has to. Basically an emergency player right now. Tough to win without a backup guard at all at this point.

No point in dwelling on it I guess. But it’s frustrating to be this thin and it sucks that our offseason solution to it didn’t work out.

Agreed. Lydon, TT, Quade and Tucker was just a brutal offseason.

Probably. That’s not helping us right now though. 5th year guy who averaged 15 ppg last year probably could’ve given us at least a couple buckets assuming he got healthy. Frustrating situation all the way around IMO.

That's how I feel. Geno didn't show much when he was here, but I hadn't ruled out the possibility he would have come along some - or at least JB would have had more confidence using him than HW. Very frustrating but maybe we should have seen it coming based on his transfer history.

I figured Lydon was gone before last season started. The last three were mostly unexpected (and Tucker was pretty much a last chance shot that SU had already backed off of).

Losing Quade was really the fly in the ointment. Having three guards who can handle the ball and shoot the three would have been great. Especially on a team where the coach likes to have three capable guards.

Fortunately for us, you don't play for SU. Who are you to judge a kid who's making a decision that will impact his life?

Lol. Stop.

You play sports on a major stage, people will talk. This isn’t Utica College.

The kid left an undermanned team in the middle of the season and will likely never play more meaningful b-ball again. Kid’s dad seemed beside himself at his son’s decision.

thorpe was never recruited by us . he was a thumb in the dyke last ditch effort and i hope we learned a lesson.
solid recruiting > grad transfers. we have 11 scholies and 6 kids playing.

geez that's some axe you're grinding

Well, I also wondered WTH was going on when they put him in. It burned his medical redshirt, and then they only played him about 5 minutes. Hell of a decision there.

It’s early January. Have to assume he’ll be playing more going forward.

No. CTO has the ability to help shape this program at a level very few do. The seemingly lack of competence by both the football and basketball medical staffs needs to be addressed and should in my opinion take precedence over the decision that GT made. Maybe if Geno had been provided with more expert care he would have come back in a better position to perform at a level that would have resulted in a different outcome.
Is your issue with training staff (athletic trainers/physical therapists), strength staff, team doctor (family medicine/internal medicine) or Orthopedic docs? Or is every facet bad in your opinion?

In fairness, we should have 7 (Sidibe) and an 8th is a transfer so that's acceptable. And Thompson did leave last minute, which we weren't expecting. So that's 9.

You're right overall though -- Washington (10th) and Thorpe (11th) were a last-minute hail mary... not winning too many games with that approach.

Kid lit it up in his last stop. If he hadn't gotten injured i think he would have been a solid contributor

He "lit it up"* on a terrible team.

*39.5 FG%, 3.0 turnovers per game against competition a step below what Syracuse faces in league. He scored and had assists, but I wouldn't call that lighting it up.

Not exactly last minute, but in May according to JAB.

Still too late to really grab a replacement especially since the PF/C position was pretty well covered with Marek, Moyer, Bourama, and Chukwu. No real reason to try and grab a 5th year (and I'm not even sure if there were any out there worth their time).

He didn't appear ready to play, and barely played, so if he wasn't ready, what was the damn point ??
Boeheim's roster management has been pretty awful these past few years, even with the sanctions.
We have six scholarship players out of 11 that we are permitted to have at this point.

There were a few but not that would have fit into what we need a center to do, likely. Plus Sidibe should be getting 20+ minutes, he's good enough right now. Sucks that he's injured.

Boeheim doesn't play anyone (least of all in a conference game) unless he is convinced they are healthy enough to contribute by what he has observed in practices and in warmup.
