I think Allen is attorcious, painful to watch the kid, just

Ryan also threw it OOB like Allen many times as well.

Ryan as a sophomore threw 19 TD's and 8 INT's, his first year starting as a RS sophomore. Allen is RS graduate senior and currently has 6 INT's in 2 games.

Nassib in 2010 had the luxury of a tremendous defense in the top 20. Allen has even less of a margin for error because of the difference in the defenses.

Also, I don't think that Nassib had 5 passes batted down in 3 years as a starter. Please correct me if I am wrong but I don't think I am. Allen has that in 1 game, as well as a volley ball spike.

Nassib was not a great long ball thrower, why should that make any difference on whether we choose a starter because he can throw a long ball? Nassib was tremendous with medium to short passes and mostly based on that is statistically our best QB.

Hunt can throw the medium to short passes, is a better runner than Ryan and is physically more gifted in every area except arm strength. Not sure I can compare smarts.

Hunt also from what I have seen has better command of the offense, better chemistry with just about everyone than Allen.

If there was ever a change to be made, now is the time to make the change.

Not to try and pile on, but Allen's accuracy leaves a lot to be desired. There was several times even when completing balls he was a couple feet off on his target, not giving the receiver a shot to actually catch the ball and make a play. And those were just on completions, there were several other incomplete passes that could have been made with better accuracy. Those plays down the sidelines were a perfect example of just not being able to put the ball where he wants it.

I can't wait to watch Drew Allen try and play against FSU. We're lucky VT isn't on the schedule this year. Their defense only gave up two touchdowns to Alabama.

FSU? You think that SU is going to get blasted by FSU because of Drew Allen, really? So I take it by this post that you are going to take some enjoyment watching SU get boatraced.

Good for you.

Last years team isn't within three td's of FSU on the road.

Allen reminds me of the NFL version of Ryan Leaf. Million dollar arm and no football awareness

Except he doesn't have a million dollar arm, IMO

I watched the fanfest scrimmage for a couple of minutes and Allen threw 2 picks. He has thrown 6 in two games. He clearly has a problem with tunnel vision and its upsetting because I will say I have watched him make quite a few really nice right on target throws. You simply caant have 2, 3 , 4 INTs a game and expect to beat anybody good. Not to mention all the batted down balls. I think it will be wise to play both QBs against Wagner and go from there. If Hunt out performs Allen then he gets the nod against Tulane. We basically have two games to right the ship ...or at least steady it a bit ( QB position )

BTW, just so everybody knows. As much as I am piling on with regard to the QB position, I am hoping...NO, PRAYING that Allen can perform like Marcus Mariota does at Oregon or Teddy Bridgewater. I am praying that he can lead us to a bowl game if they continue to let him start because he does have the physical tools to do it.

Just very frustrated and disheartened to say the least. This isn't what I waited 8 months for.

Drew Allen just does not play fast - that's my issue.

In every respect he does not seem to play at a competition level.

He passes the look test and appears to have all the tools.

But, he is not playing ahead of his opponents - they seem to play ahead of him.

He may be a great practice player, but so far he does not seem to be game savvy.

I agree. There is just something missing. There are so many little things that really lead to his undoing. In addition to what you have mentioned, and on top of the accuracy issues I pointed out earlier, I think his main issue right now is just pocket awareness. I think that falls into the game savvy category you mentioned as well. You just don't have that many batted balls in 2 games if you have pocket awareness. You can see where there are throwing lanes. You need to be able to make that subtle slide a foot here or foot there. I am in no way saying he has to be like this, but this is something Tom Brady has mastered. If Allen had just a tenth of that awareness it could at least help with the balls getting dunked back into his face

Nassib last year had a 62.4% completion percentage, 3749 yards, 26 TDs and 10 ints. Comparing him to Allen is like comparing Cameron Dantley to Donovan McNabb.

I think you should review Nassib's first year as a starter.

I think everyone here wants Allen to do well. And I don't blame the coaches one bit for deflecting from him and helping to protect him. These are kids. It's a lot of pressure, and I'm sure as much as we want him to do well, Allen himself wants it 1000x more. Just the same I think anyone who views SU playing right now knows we have an issue at the position. Only the coaches know how competitive the battle is/was between Allen and Hunt. They certainly know better than I which one fits their planned offense better, and hopefully which one gives us the best chance to win.

I only hope that over the next two games -- games that I think most of us believe we should win regardless of who is under center (always a dangerous assumption) -- that the coaches and players can demonstrate more effectively which player is the choice and why.

And finally, if its dead even, it has to be Hunt.

Allen is probably 23 and a hired gun from what has been one of the top 5 programs in the country over the past 10-12 years If you come in under these situations ( 5th year senior who transfers under this loophole) and start you better believe you will be under the microscope, you have one season and Syracuse fasn are ing sick and tired of watching subpar QB play, we have what I consider 1 year of good qb play in 15 years, who can blame us. If the kid continues to stink, move onto the next, anyone defending his performance is insane or is willing to throw the season away so he can hopefully get better needs to watch the replays. I know woulda coulda shoulda and if I could putt I would be breaking 70 all the time. If he throws a bone headed pick or two versus Wagner, put Hunt in, if Hunt sucks go to the next, burn a red shirt to give one of the kids reps for next year if it gets that bad. HUNT was reportedly in a tight race, right there with Allen according to all the reports and he has been here 2.5 years, can move better as well, I am sure most of the kids on the offense want him to start as well, not that the inmates should run the asylum but it makes a difference and is just human nature.

Stink is stink no matter how much lipstick people attempt to put on the pig. And for the last time, this team should not suck as bad as it has. There are parts and pieces to win football games.

The combo of Allen and George Mc have already worn me down in 8 quarters of a 12 game season. Serioulsy, Allen earned the spot but with his situation he gets a very quick hook.

I never understood the Drew Allen experiment from the beginning. To me it doesnt send a very good message to the other guys... to bring in a third string quarterback from oklahoma seems awefully desparate! If the competition was so close, then it should have been Hunt from day 1... Also I disagree with the Shafe when he said Drew Allen was a competitor, no he isnt, he was third string his whole career at OK, then he was gifted a starting job at SU due to how many stars he had in high school. Has he ever competed in his career? His game sure as hell doest reek of competition!
