I want to play UConn every year

No. We have maintained relationships with St.John's, Villanova and now Georgetown. If UConn wants to play a game in NYC every few years fine. However playing them every year isn't necessary I enjoy rotating Nova, St. John's.

Georgetown is the only opponent we need to play every year in OOC.

Agreed. There is no benefit to giving that mid-tier program the time of day.

They already have legitimacy. They won two national titles in the past 4 years and will still be in the Top 25 if they beat Gonzaga tomorrow.

Isn't entertainment value a benefit? An annual game at MSG would be electric.

Their best seasons are behind them. As we discussed earlier this week.

Has beens.

If they don't win their conference, they won't make the NCAA tournament again--just like most mid-major teams.

I didn't realize Syracusefan.com already settled the future of UConn basketball. What did we decide tonight's lottery numbers would be? :)

Your opinion is fair but this isn't going to happen. I want Syracuse FB to play Penn State every year but they won't do it. Providence wants to play UConn every year but UConn won't do it.

UConn isn't our historic main rival. They filled the Georgetown void in the 1990's.

I am still waiting for what P5 league is going add UConn in the next 5-10 years.

I'm just tired of the attributions.

They had their time, and now they've been passed over by big time collegiate athletics. They can still challenge for fringe top 25 status, but the margin widens with every passing season vis a vis revenue. They went to the NIT last year because they play in a mid-major conference--that's their new reality.

BTW, they are relying upon transfers from Cornell and Seton Hall this year. LOL.

I think they will end up in either the Big 10 or ACC within the next decade.

Just because you disagree doesn't mean RF's opinion isn't valid.
He could be right. He could be wrong.

UConn can compete in BB IMO but their margin for error and quality wins potential has been severely limited due to their conference.

I would love to hear your theory for conference expansion. The ACC is done until 2022 when ND's contract with NBC expires.

The Big Ten is negotiating its rights fees now and expands for TV cable boxes. CT population isn't going to add enough for the BTN to add UConn and the conference pay for the new member. Big Ten isn't likely to add UConn now that they took Rutgers and got on NYC cable.

We need to get UConn in the rotation.

Georgetown, st johns, villanova, Yukon needs to be in that group. I think Georgetown is first, nova might be second but Yukon has to be a yearly opponent. I don't care how hard the schedule is, play them all.

Uconn has a top 5 class coming in next year. Someone wake we up when they achieve this "irrelevance" people around here have been promising in one form or another for the past decade.

Scooch nailed it. To hell with this silly fascination with some game of Risk being played with conferences. I want to see good games. If we're so focused with being NEW YORKS COLLEGE TEAM (TM) then play uconn every year in MSG. St Johns. They haven't been relevant since 1985.

I'll wake you up right now. They are irrelevant.

Next. ; )

Rotating Villanova, St. John's, UConn with Georgetown every year would be fine. I don't think that is unreasonable. However, every year at MSG isn't necessary.
We have 10 OOC slots every year.
1 tournament for 4 games.
1 Big Ten/ACC game
Cornell
Colgate
Georgetown

That leaves 5 slots. I would say rotate St. John's/Nova/UConn and then 4 cupcakes.

Point of order: couldn't uconn fill one of the cupcake slots as a mid-major guaranteed "W"?

Big rivals don't play in mid major conferences. The pleasure today was all theirs.

If they moved their campus someplace that mattered we can play them.

I guess if they agreed to play at MSG/Dome/MSG/Dome, I would do it every year. We're Syracuse - we don't play a mid-major on their home court. :)

I would offer the same payday and contract we offer other low level teams to come and play at the Dome in December.

They don't deserve any more respect.

I'm against playing them.

Its not worth playing some mid-major only to have them drag down our SOS / RPI.

:rolling:

are you counting the guy that had 2 acl surgeries already? I liked the discussion on their board about how awesome they were for honoring the guys commitment.

I don't think 2 ACL tears is a a deal breaker.

Playing them is their Super Bowl, not ours. With the ACC, the B1G game, and the early season stuff we have a lot going on as is.

Boeheim however said something may be in the works. If it's Dome or Garden fine. Only away non conference games should be MSG, Philly, DC.

The obvious and blatant hate shown here toward UConn is exactly why this game should happen every year. As a UConn fan, I hate each and every one of you, and that's what makes these games fun.

Syracuse-UConn games always draw an electric atmosphere and is a matchup that an average fan would tune into. Many here seem to have some sort of superiority complex which ignores how entertaining the games always are when these programs meet. Both teams benefit from playing each other, and it makes too much sense to have a yearly MSG game.
