If Bleich is healthy and eligible the OL

Yeah I think it is a 3 for 3 or 2 for 3 kind of thing so there is no advantage him sitting.

My understanding:
It's either 3 to play 3 - or 2 for 2 if he has to sit, since he already took a RS.
He'd lose that year effectively.

Clearly we'd prefer the former.
Could be a 3 year starter for us if so.

Certainly hope Heckel is able & willing to come back for another year, if that's what he wants.
Having both of these guys for this year seems almost too much to hope for.

That said, I'm confident our O-Line will be a LOT more like it was the last 3 games, rather than the first 9.
And likely even better, since everybody will be playing their proper position from the jump.

I agree with all who say we desperately need a NON-Servais backup C, in the worst way.

so, what you're saying is we want a non-Servais serviceable backup center? I will show myself out.

five returning starters essentially playing their best positions. Vitterllo with more time at center. Bergeron with a full year and spring ball.

that adds up to “better” and “promising” but also “some of those kids were on the most sacks given up in the P5, let’s pump the breaks, wait and see”

The line completely stabilized after those positional changes were implemented. Bergeron, for example, was not part of the group that performed so poorly at the beginning of the year. They did a much better job both pass blocking and run blocking once those three settled into new roles. With an offseason of additional development PLUS stability with four established starters returning suggests better performance to come.

I hope that Bleich gets cleared, but these things never seem to go our way with the NCAA. Hope to be pleasantly surprised, because him stepping in for Adams seems like an upgrade.

Looking at that list I push all my chips in on Rutgers

Winsipedia - Florida Gators vs. Penn State Nittany Lions football series history (never beat them)

Winsipedia - Florida Gators vs. Rutgers Scarlet Knights football series history (hmmm ruttie tied them once)

Winsipedia - Florida Gators vs. Syracuse Orange football series history games list (2-2)

And your upset winner

Temple beat Florida in 1937 and 1938. Those were the last 2 seasons legendary coach Pop Warner was a college coach. He did not finish like a champion.

His only wins in 1937 were to VMI, Florida and Carnegie Mellon. His only wins in 1938 were to Albright, Bucknell and Florida.

Look at you being all negative (ok, realistic).

But the last 3 games, after the changes were made, we gave up 5 sacks total and averaged 450 yards. That included a game where the defense turned the game into a laugher early in the 2nd half (wait, what?) and a game with Welch at QB.

Once we removed the deadweight (the quitter) and got guys into their best position, it was clearly better. Sometimes forcing coaches out of their comfort zones can be a good thing.

big question is when do they find out... if he isnt illegible this yr hard to play him in the spring practice sessions the same way.. if you dont know then you have to see what he can be.

Yes, I’m aware. I’m hopeful. I just don’t think we can say they’ll be a strength just yet. Also remember the teams we played at the end of the season gave up more running yds, had less sacks, or had less to play for.

I just want set modest expectations and be surprised if they kill it

yeah, feels weird lol

That’s a fact! If this guy from Florida can play right away we will definitely be I would say pretty confidently a pretty good offensive line! Especially with Bergeron having experience in a year under his belt I think as soon as he came into that lineup we were 10 times better plus servais moving from center Was huge! I really wish they just did that sooner.

Nothing wrong with guarded optimism. As fans we need that. On the plus side: If Bleich plays, his experience is a plus. We have made a shift at center and tackle that showed promise and they all gained experience last year and we have them back. Lastly Bergeron is just gonna be a beast. Reasons to be guarded: very small sample size of 3 games for the new line config. Introducing Bleich as a new presence on the line isn’t seemless and will need time to adjust. We are one rolled ankle by our starting center of going back to the same config that was an utter failure as a line. Our lines have not been a strength since John Flannery. My god thats a long time and I am old! Crap!
So some reasons for optimism but can we hold on saying its a strength until they kinda show themselves to be a strength?

Biggest issue I had is all the cross training. It’s hard enough to be lineman without knowing three positions also. Yes some guys are extremely smart and can handle that but some aren’t and it overwhelms them.

My early OL two-deep:

Servais - Bleich - Vett - D. Davis - Bergeron
Tisalde - P. Davis - ??? - Q. White - Red

Might want to replace Heckel with Servais at left tackle.
