If for some stupid reason the ACC plays football this fall

But how many "student athletes" never graduate and/or never use their education? I know its nobody's fault but their own, but at least 4 years of minor league paychecks is worth something.

BS. They can’t save those paychecks. A degree can’t be taken away from them.

But your correct on many not getting it and there are some simple tweaks that need to happen. Like there is no ethical reason the NFL should have the combine during spring semester. So what the draft is a big event. NBA same thing lots of kids don’t finish their courses to prep for the draft. Have that stuff in the summer when school is out.

Then after the season the conference needs to go to the SEC and say you stopped our 3-5-5 division less plan years ago.

You didn’t like it and with the Big Ten voted it down.
You owe us the support of this measure since we stuck by you and played football in a pandemic.

If the ACC isn’t trying to leverage changes they want now they won’t get them.
The SEC giving it their blessing along with the Big XII which co-sponsored the amendment with the ACC would have the votes so that divisions wouldn’t be necessary to determine confidence championship games every season.

The NCAA gave the ACC the waiver this year because of the pandemic.

However if we stupidly play use the situation to it’s advantage.
Dude why is it so stupid that we play? We take the certain precautions and kids can opt out if they want to, which I don’t think you really should in my opinion but they have that option regardless. you’re missing out on a ton of money if you don’t play and you can show just like the NBA is for the most part that’s it’s safe to play sports in the so-called pandemic. It’s really pathetic how the media has everybody is so scared of this horsesh#%. But they’re just doing their job

I came up with a solution.

You get Congress to exempt revenue productions sports basketball and football from Title IX laws. Sen. John Tower (R-TX) tried that when Title IX was still in committee. He got no support. It's even less likely to happen now.

Or you create a stipend and call something that around Title IX and you give the athletes that. There already is a stipend based on Total Cost of Attendance.

Football pays for the scholarships that Title IX requires. There are few, if any, P5 schools that have football funding the scholarships. Football pays for the non-rev sports' operations and donors pay for the scholarships. Title IX requires equal treatment for all students. The Ivies don't give grants-in-aid (athletic scholarships), so Title IX doesn't "require" scholarships but it still requires their female athletes be treated equally.

Or you create a shell company and the school pays them a phony contract to do something for a million dollars. That shell companies gives the revenue producing sports X dollars to sign memorabilia. This scheme won't survive a court challenge and assumes that the NCAA will allow it in the first place.

Obviously you have to do this stuff right but their are ways to pay the Revenue producing kids.

The full cost stipend isn’t enough.
It’s for all athletes.
I think football and basketball players and any sport that actually brings in a profit for their AD should get an additional stipend.

ACC/SEC seem more dug in than ever. If the Big XII aligns with us, the three conferences will provide enough content to own Saturdays - that’s a massive W from a football standpoint.

I don’t know how bowls will work but Clemson Syracuse, Oklahoma and two SEC teams is enough for a valid CFP.

Agreed.

its everyone else that will ruin the season. Cuse needs to have a damn meeting with all ACC members and get on the same fricken page.

This may have been said already (8 pages, tl;dnr) but the ACC did not need a waiver this year - teams are only playing a maximum of 11 regular season games + 1 ACCCG game = 12, which is allowed. You only need a waiver to play a 13th game without divisions.

Current system is great. Obviously has its flaws.

A full ride is worth 250k. 4 years of G league after taxes pays maybe half of that.

Agree, some forget that schollie $$$ and the fact there are 50 yo grads still very familiar with student loans. Add in the fact these colleges give these kids the PLATFORM to play in front of huge crowds and tv audiences to build their athletic resume on the way to a possible draft and pro career. Looking at these kids as exploited and taken advantage of , and should be paid is ludicrous.

Do you know what Walter Byers, the former head of the NCAA, that coined the term "student athlete", and amateurism said about that? 25 years ago, he said that's no longer the case. The University owns their mind, The coach owns their body, and it's evolved into a neo-plantation system. His words. He spoke out about the very system HE created. Things changed. Apparently, he wasn't comfortable exploiting the youth, that at one time, was the NCAA's mission to protect.
