If I were Autry

well the football $$$$$ landscape aint changing so we might as well just give up on hoops, in that case

SEC is taking over bball...whats going to stop that from continuing?
We still have lacrosse. SEC doesn't.

I would do everything possible to speed up the game.
I would guard baseline to baseline.
I would throw the press on more often then not.
I would post Freeman, Davis, and Bell up and force the ball to them.
I would have Bell Davis Donnie Cuffe and Taylor on the floor together. Rotation off that 5 would be Choppa and Carlos for Cuffe and Taylor.
I would also go big and play Zone for 10 minutes a game.

Davis

Taylor.

In short I would try and force tempo get into up and down games. And I wouldn't play much half court man. I'd be in the Zone as a switch and play big and athletic.
It should be obvious that we can't win playing teams straight up man to man. We simply suck at half court man D and we are not going to improve.
Force pace and or go big with the zone.

In summary you’d coach.
And maybe have some hard team meetings.

I don’t even know who the leader is?
Overpaid overweight injured Chef?

Two years in, we got the toilet assassin, selfish Judah, and what now?

Not an Eddie fan I take it.

Not an Eddie fan I take it.
I like Eddie but unfortunately he can't run and he isn't worth a darn in the zone.
Eddie was a horrible choice by Red who has proclaimed that he wants to play fast. I have no idea what Red and the coaches saw in Eddie that screamed " up and down the court " player.
Eddie is the poster boy for a half court game.
So to answer your question I'm OK with Eddie but he doesn't fit the full court and or zone style of play I would roll with.

Giving an update on Jaquan:

I think there are enough minutes to count Petar and Kyle in the stats. So 10 guys.

FG%: 36.5% (9th)
3PT%: 16.7% (10th)
PER: 7.9 (10th)
TS%: 44.5% (10th)
BPM: -2.7 (9th)

The two that he is 9th in, Kyle is behind him. I'd argue that Kyle's numbers will move up as he get more minutes and plays with JJ, etc.

Jaquan did drop to 17th in MPG in the entire ACC.

BTW, if you look at Eddie's stats against last year, he is almost exactly what he was last year. Not surprising (to some people). He was always this. Again, his most efficient year was after TCU made him lose 70 pounds.

If Red is going to be here next year, the program's front office (Alex Kline, etc) should give a state of the program and the plan for center and PG.

I honestly don't remember the number. And don't know if it was a Jesse situation where we'd get bid up anyway. But whatever it was we were tapped.

Don't know the UGa #, Kline did present (and I didn't take a picture of the slide) the SEC NIL in general dwarfing the ACC's. Showed this past month.
And there you have why the SEC is killing it this season. It sucks that it’s all just about NIL dollars now. Talent can often overcome mediocre coaching.

On the one hand I think Lampkin is still moving worse than he was last season due to the lingering injury so he may have more in the tank down the stretch. On the other hand I will eat some crow for trying to hype up his arrival, because even if he was doing more as a scorer/play maker right now, there is no universe in which we should have added him to an already heavily disadvantaged team on the defensive end. Even if Davis Carlos and Taylor lived up to the billing as plus defensive players at this level (only Taylor is coming remotely close), you know about the weakness of JJ and Bell, who were locked in for major mins, and you have enough film on Donnie and Moore to know they wont come in and save the D as freshmen. Lampkin moving as slow as he is now was not a guarantee, but the lack of rim protection was 100% going to happen even if he was injury free. You are basically banking on all the other new faces going off on the defensive end, which was always highly unlikely.

The Carlos/pg eval is still by far Reds worse error IMO, but adding Lampkin to this roster was also an error, even if you put aside the NIL situation.

I would also say, the SEC has some of the best coaches currently too. ACC on the other hand…

.
I’m saying we chose to give him a car and bump his NIL up 100 because we felt we needed him on this team.

Matter of fact statement that you and I agree with.

I don’t believe he was worth it. I debated with you at the time about it. Period. I believe we would have been better using the funds on a PG.

So when I see thinks like “we couldn’t pay for so and so”. I say BS. We couldn’t pay for Lampkin AND a PG. I’ll agree with that
You’re not getting the timeline aspect. In mid to late May, when Lampkin took Syracuse off all his socials and started demanding more money and a Hellcat from our donors, we’d missed the window on getting involved with other top portal point guards and Leffew had already chosen Georgia. Plus then we’d be without a portal center. As RF said, we thought we were getting Eddie for like half the cost we originally thought we’d be paying.

No I completely get the timeline. We should have STARTED WITH A POINT GUARD. Get the point guard. Once you know what you pay the PG, fill in from there. You don't start with the center.

Exactly how you are supposed to build a team in college. Full court press on your PG and then fill in the blanks after.

Specifically when you are bringing back Chris Bell who clearly needs someone to generate shots for him.

Maybe if we had a bunch of scorers at the other positions and brought in Eddie and then got a defensive stud at PG, it'd work out, we have none of the above...except Eddie

Sort of like Football and the QB position the PG position is the most important. Every offseason just like football that is where I would focus first and put the most money.

A great PG can win a lot of games heck not so great PG in Mintz won 20 last year. You need someone on the court that can calm everyone down and get us in the correct sets. When players get hot get them the ball. When players get mismatches get them the ball. etc. We currently lack that and why we lost all these close games.

Your timeline is off. We already had Lampkin wrapped up before anything happened with Leffew. Ironically, Lampkin wound up holding out for the money we wouldn’t give Leffew (and then some, from the sound of it). Red probably didn’t want to get burned a third time after Edwards and Leffew.

A quick word on injuries. Starling’s shoulders had nothing to do with him breaking his wrist and Westry’s knees had nothing to do with him getting mono. You might be onto something with going after injured players because of the discount. (On the other hand, both Starling and Westry were already on our radar when they were HS seniors, so it was more likely that.) It’s reasonable to fault Red for taking a chance on a guy with a bad knee who wound up injuring the other knee. It’s not reasonable to fault Red when the same player gets mono after the knee injuries are potentially behind him.
If Westry decides to come back next year it should be understood there’s no NIL coming your way. He’s gotten paid for two years for doing nothing. His fault or not.

My worry about playing fast is this team’s decision making is horrible. Playing fast will only rear its ugly head even more.

We are a bad team. If you go tempo all you do is maximize possessions for the Better team. We should kill the shot clock every possession.
