If I were the AD

even lower than grob era?

There hasn't been a really up since the grob era. A couple out of the norm decent seasons but nothing to suggest that we totally got away from that era. We haven't been ranked. Haven't had any prolong success. Just a holding pattern waiting for the right hire.

Agree. And I trust Coyle because he was a Syverud hire and I have immense respect for him. It'll be a shame though if he's not replaced that some of our so called SU football fans will crush Shafer, Coyle, Syverud, the BOT and will stop supporting the program.
The suggestions and innuendoes that if you don't line up behind a coach with a track record as bad as Shafer's you"re not a "true fan" are frankly way beyond tiresome.

Nonsense, even as bad as this year is, it's not close to the total four year complete system failure that was Gerg.

If people feel their money is being wasted in donating then so be it. Throwing cash down a perceived sink is stupid.

Support isn't always donations.

I thought P should have been gone, but I went to games.

Marrone I thought was an ass after 2 conversations and other things but I went to games.

GO felt Grob was the worst hire in history but he went to games.

Not at all. Stop going to games then you're a fan of the coach not the team. The real fans will still go like they always have. And if someone isn't going or withholding their donation then they aren't helping the situation.

It is a shame you are telling people it will be a shame telling people what they should do with their entertainment dollars. If product doesn't deserve people's money that is the prerogative of the person and an indictment on the product.

Everyone will continue supporting rooting for the laundry. Keeping SS tells me all I need to know about Coyle. I don't put it on Syverud or the BOT as I believe its the AD's call.

So, Coyle can proceed with impunity and do what he wants without checking with his boss(es)? Okay.

Why is it a shame? He has an opinion. Just like you.

I agree, if Coyle wants him replaced he will be replaced, IMO. People talk about this booster and that booster, I don't buy it.

No, I don't think it's his point at all, if Coyle strongly believes and recommends that Shafer be replaced I believe it will get done. It's his job and what he is judged on. I don't think he would take the job if he couldn't get things done within the athletic department. Nobody is suggesting he can run around like a wild man, hiring and firing but if he thinks in the university's best interest then I believe he will be given the opportunity to replace at the end of the season

Bingo. This was my point.

So did you read the post I responded too? That person called it a shame? Did you ask them why it would be a shame?
When anything involves a persons money I don't question how they decide to spend it. Unless going to the games is free if a person decides not to spend their money next year that should never be questioned. We are supporting laundry not the person coaching the laundry.

Keeping SS as HC would greatly reduce my personal confidence in Coyle. Everyone talks about how smart and great he is when no major decisions have been occurred yet we are in wait and see mode. If our HC only has 1 year left on his contract to remain HC he needs more money/years on his contract. If 13-22 is worthy of an extension then I seriously question Coyle. I doubt SS will ever get to .500 as HC at SU thus make the move now. Next year will be a honeymoon year for any 1st year coach thus the 12 road games won't be too much for that coach and year 2 in a new staff opening up the Dome will bring a lot of optimism.

This x 100. The performance, talent and team are at different levels compared to GRob. Those years were horrible

the relative importance of any moneybags guy has gone down with all the other money coming in. one of the nice things of being p5

Really? The NY Post yesterday referred to us as"ACC punching bag Syracuse". Truth is we do have some young talent, but so does most of the rest of the ACC, and theirs is not only better but also coached better.

To each their own, it's money and time. If people think either or both which is a commodity are being wasted that's up to them.

Beyond tiresome like I said. It is his product on the field.

It's a fine line IMO. People drop or buy their tix every year for financial reasons. Life changes. If someone is sitting there and thinking the amount of their discretionary funds dictates a change someplace and they decide SU support and/or tix needs to be cut, then so be it. I'm not talking about those people.

But it's a completely different thing IMO for someone to say they are dropping their support, financially or by attendance, for one reason only...SU decided to keep a coach I felt should be replaced. Whatever the decision is, I'm sure a LOT of thought and discussions took place amongst a number of folks at SU and we won't be privy to them nor never know the full reasons why.

So yea, to me those aren't fans of the program, those are fans of wanting their way. I hate picking on GO, but there's no person that had more disdain for a coach than him for Grob. Somehow I still saw him at the tailgates and games.

And some people will only go if the team is winning and/or happy with the product. There are others who support the team through thick or thin.

That's little kid stuff. Extreme example, but, I live in a market where the local NFL team has treated it's fans, employees, the Native American population, the environment, and heck knows what else horribly. At some point enough was enough for families that held tickets for 30-40 years. And even with a little win streak they know what's truly there. Still fans, but are staying away until certain things change.

The things you listed are different than who the coach is or what the record is. Your list is bringing into play things like morals.

Very well. The way I read it was that it was Coyle's call, without approval.

Nobody is dropping their support. We could keep SS and I would still root for SU FB. I want to win games no matter the coach. I root for the laundry not the HC. With that said I think not giving money to a SS HC coached team is a person's prerogative. People reach boiling points. If its a waste of money I can support the University in other ways.

I give a donation to the two colleges I majored in. I will increase my donation to them and not give the AD that money. My opinion is not greater than anyone's opinion. This isn't about me getting my way. I believe the only voice of displeasure is to hit them in the books. I will be in Missouri mode show me. I don't go to more than 1-2 games a year anyway thus getting rid of season tickets isn't a big deal.

I will root for the laundry though. Coyle has done nothing to deserve this faith. This decision will be his first major decision. I will base my opinion on this result. This decision doesn't go on the Chancellor or BOT it goes on the AD.

The coaches and records have been bad minus a blip here or there. Sounds familiar.

Who doesn't like tragicomedy?

Is there still a 15000 waiting list? There was when I lived there in the late 70s early 80s.
