If I'm McDonald, I'm demanding my job back

It doesn't matter.

Zombie Don Coryell could run this offense and it's still be crappy. We got no QB, poor WRs, overrated RBs and a lout OL.

This is basically his offensive line. The same offensive line that was the strength of his 2012 team. Trudo, Hickey, and Foy were major contributors to that line. Saying they have regressed would be an understatement. West, PTG, and AAM were other contributors.

The main problem is these guys aren't being put in situations to succeed, and haven't improved that much.
what qb did he bring in. He had 4 years. he won with Nassib. Someone elses qb. What blue chip rb did he bring in. Our guys just aren't up to ACC level. Ditto with our wide recievers.

Funny that most of the Marrone guys ended up leading the team in offensive categories, but let's keep pretending that his recruits sucked- West, PTG, Hunt, Lynch, Davis,Reddish.

He never played with Hunt, but I would guess he would have done the same or better with him last season. His guy PTG I believe owns bowl records for rushing and total yards. And I believe Broyld and West, while not top tier ACC guys could get the job done on nearly any ACC team not named Clemson or FSU.

I'm just not buying that he hasn't transitioned things as much everybody says. We've seen some different stuff and we've seen some other things disappear completely. It's way more likely that he has approximated as much as he can what he wants to do. After the bye, we've seen no spark. I may be wrong, but I don't think that what we see next season is really going to be all that different - at least, not different enough for us to be much better. I wouldn't say I have zero confidence in Lester, but I would say he has shown me nothing that increases my confidence in him.

He said coming out of the bye that that haven't installed anything - not enough time. I think you're right in that they got rid of some things and added a few wrinkles, but nothing like a whole playbook with 2 camps to learn it.

I'm not saying anyone should feel confident in Lester at this point; we've seen some awful football. I'm saying what we've seen isn't what he has in mind. In might not be better, it might be great - but no one knows.

Someone HAS to lead the team. And SS has had 1 full recruiting class, right?

People here so vastly overrate our talent it's comical.

Like they don't watch any other college football comical.

I'm just saying that Marrone didn't leave SS with a FCS roster like some here seem to suggest. Of course SU doesn't have top 20 talent, but let's not act like the ACC is loaded with incredible teams.

I am not sure what that offense was and who was the primary architect, McDonald, Lester, the Tomcat's pizza box, some random number generator...but when the offensive line can't get anything done and it does not appear as though you have a Div 1 qb on the roster I guess expectations have to be low. I am still shaking my head that McDonald was demoted so publicly in the middle of the season. Did we really have to advertise the chaos on offense that engulfed the team? Couldn't we have just let the team's play stink for itself?

Every ACC team but one is better than us.

Marrone basically left the kind of roster that GRob inherited.

Then how did last year's team make it to a bowl game? And win it? Over a top tier big ten team a year later?

That's cause Shafer's recruits are freshmen. Marrone did a horrible job at the skill positions.

Because we had the talent to win 6 FBS games, which is what got P fired, right?

And top tier? OK.

I wonder if any other schools have 1st or 2nd year players starting at skill positions... but hey we blamed G Rob for Marrone's struggles, so I guess we should just blame Marrone now, and then when the next offense struggles we can keep it going and say Shafer couldn't recruit.

Well, they played both division champs within 10 points, so that them a whole lot better than most teams in big ten. And ACC.

Oops, read your last post wrong, thought I read the team Grob left behind, my bad. I do think that Minnesota is top tier of big ten this year. Whatever that means...

It's all relative- HCDM inherited a pretty awful roster by B.E. standards and when he left it was decent- by B.E. standards. Our talent isn't ACC caliber from top to bottom but people on this board get excited when an "Under the Radar" recruit commits in June with no other P-5 offers. At least our defensive coaches kept us somewhat competitive, the offensive staff couldn't take what little talent we do have, and figure out a way to put guys in a position to succeed. The injuries robbed us of what little margin for error we did have. I'm still not sure what we gained by making the change to Lester mid season other than to publicly humiliate GM.

I think he's lying.

Definitely. Guy has a track record of not beeping honest with the media and probably would steal your wallet if you left it out. He's a meathead TE-first boogie man!

There is zero advantage, competitive or personal, to him saying that he's doing anything different.

He had a pretty good quarterback locked up when he left.

Who never played 1 down here so nobody knows how he would perform.

I think you're seeing things man.

I think he's tinkered with things, but the playbook isn't installed at all. It usually takes two camps, offseason with the playbook, etc. AND he's said that they've brought in a few new looks (diamond backfield that AJ scored on today in the red zone). He's been pretty upfront about all that stuff.

You can watch near all his interviews on YouTube or ESPNCNY audio vault. His interviews with Axe run on Thursdays.
