i'm going to get myself in trouble

Where do people get some of these predictions?

Last game LSU scouted the offense and predicted the first play and jumped it. That's on Babers for being too predictable. Today Dungey throw it to the inside shoulder instead of the outside shoulder, the receiver probably should have fought harder for the ball and the db made a stellar play, blame goes to 60% the db, 30% Dungey and 10% the receiver. The reality of our slow starts is that we are way too predictable on O and good defenses will give us what we want knowing we will shoot ourselves in the foot. Root cause is the lack of a run game to take an pressure off of the receivers.

Often coaches want their QB to get a completion quick to get them confident especially away from home in a big time game environment. LSU jumped the route and it payed off for them.

The QB play doesn't cause us to not be able to run the ball with our rb (mostly due to no holes), or our defense to miss tackle after tackle, or our Kicker to miss FG's.

IF I had to pick our team's greatest strength, it would likely be QB play.

The best players play...simple. If there is a QB better than Dungey he'll be there behind the center instead. The key is to let Babers develop players and get those freshmen in the game that are ready or if there is a need. The OL will develop and if they don't there will be talented players behind them that will take their place.

The O line has done a decent job pass blocking , run blocking is an issue . We have great young talent coming up at WR don't worry about that . We need a very good back ! Georgia blew out Tennessee yesterday with my boy freshman jake Fromm at qb ,however he was only 7-15 for 84 yards . They have 2 stud backs who fit there system .imagine winning 44-0 when your qb throws for 84 yards . The moral to my post is "system" you need the talent to fit the "system" . You posters here are all fans and that's great and we need all of you , but trust me when I tell you so many things you see in the game right before your eyes aren't what they appear ,especially throws a qb makes or doesn't make . Sure the WRs sometimes make spectacular catches and boost a Qb's stats but so many times they run the wrong routes causing picks . For example last week vs LSU my other boy freshman Myles Brennan came in and threw a bad pick I was like who was he throwing to (glad for us he did ) but after the game Tommy asked him and the wr had the choice to go in or out and the qb made the right throw (pick ) and it was the WR's fault even the announcer said I wonder if they will go back to Etling and they did ( head coach probably didn't know the read in the play either ) I'm sure the OC did and I'm sure the WR got ripped in film happens so many times . Take yesterday's pick the ball was severely under thrown and to the inside that ball is to be thrown to the outside shoulder where only the wr can get it . The moral to my story is there is so much more than meets the eye during a play .its like if someone sees you and your wife arguing and they comment you would be like you have no idea why ! Bottom line is we have to trust the coaching staff because we are for the most part clueless . In Dino I trust !!

Agree with overall point, but I think it was pretty obvious that first long ball was under thrown and should have been to the outside. Even still, defender made a great play. It happens. I wasn't upset that much with that play. When you throw as much as we have to (being down early with no RB), sometimes that will happen.

And with him we win what 3...4?

He isn't some top end QB who should be handed a job without competition. If someone beats him out in the summer by all means they should take the starting job. All I'm saying. This notion that Dungey is "untouchable" is laughable

He’s been our entire offense his whole career. We throw a lot and our whole running game is him. We’ve had zero running game and mediocre pass protection. And he’s been a productive QB his entire career.

For those that have seen DeVito, how good of a runner is he? Write ups I’ve read suggest he’s a pocket passer that is fairly athletic too. Is he a good, instinctive runner though? We’re all not crazy about Dungey having to run so much with the injury history, but he is good at it and it’s the only way we can run the ball. His legs have gotten us in the end zone once we get close numerous times, where our RBs flat out don’t.

I’m hoping we’ll actually have a decent running game again by the time DeVito takes over as a soph.

All I'm saying is he isn't untouchable and it will be an open competition. And if he isn't the best man NEXT year he shouldn't have the job gifted/handed to him "just because"

Many can disagree if they like, but if this kid is being "gifted" a job with no competition then the problems with this program go deeper.

Jeez. Stop posting like a soccer mom. Way too dramatic there. Yeah, the problems just run so deep because one of the most productive QBs in the league will almost certainly start his senior year over a freshman.

Great post. Needed as well.

That statement makes no sense. DeVito could start, but because we have no wr's Dungey will start.

Made sense to me. Dungey will be an experienced senior whose biggest strength is probably his ability to make something out of nothing, to improvise, and to run when things break down. Our WRs, RBs, and OL will all be either untested or unproven next year. Is throwing a freshman QB into the fire the best idea? I’d rather have the veteran who has been there/done that as far as putting the offense on his back with little help.

I think the overall talent base will look much better in 2019 as many young players or guys not even here yet now, will have some experience by then. The OL should be better. The offense and staff will be in year 4. Seems like a much better situation to succeed to put a younger QB in. As a 3rd year soph, with help...he should be able to step right in and be a big time productive QB rather than taking freshman lumps on a weaker team.

My biggest concern is that there is zero push by the o-line on run plays.

I am wondering if the conditioning program is putting to much training into cardio to run a high pace offense vs. brute strength for a ground game. Or is it that it appears this line is also on it's heels on every play thinking pass first.

Dungey is fine and very good in the short to medium passing game to run this offense it's just when he puts air under the ball the completion rate seems like it's about 5%.

I think part of that is that we don’t have a deep threat WR. Last year we seemed to get a lot more completions downfield. Etta Tawo had the speed to get deep, and so did Estime.

Ishmael has been making some great catches with the DB all over him, but he’s not all that fast. Custis got hurt and wasn’t catching the ball anyway. Hopefully he comes back and comes around later in the season as a deep threat.

Dungey ain't IT. Devito will start next year.
Have you heard Dino talk about #2? Compared him last week to Brett Fabre. HOF Quarterback. And before you tell me how Farve was a flawed QB, which he was to a degree, I can assure you that among those who play and coach the game of football at the highest levels, this is a supreme compliment.

It wabtva great play on the ball it was as easy a
Great post. Needed as well.
to add to my post, I just watched the Butch Jones post game and when asked a ? he answered he wouldn't know till he watched the film. that's right the head coach doesn't know much until he sees it in slow motion film

Spot on, way too predictable. Way too dependent on sideline routes.

He's not going any where and i know its a out side chance but ... if he improves its a outside shot at the NFL

Regardless of how well DeVito actually runs, my hope is that he's more of a slinger and is very selective taking the ball for himself.

Hopefully by the time DeVito is getting snaps one of Pierre/Jordan/Dixon/Hall has elevated RB production.

Yeah, exactly. Hopefully we’re not relying on our QB to carry the rushing attack by then. Put a good OL in front of DeVito and we could have a pretty fun offense.

I really think the necessary parts are going to be there. This recruiting class is so crucial.

I think Dino would prefer that the QB not run, and I believe he has stated that more than once. FWIW, I would bet that TD is a more accurate passer, and that he can run. Given his lack of experience, and the state of the offensive line, we just don't want him running for his life. Gotta go with ED for now - he's a good enough passer and our best runner.
