i'm going to get myself in trouble

For as great as Dungey is he makes a lot of questionable decisions and leaves a lot of yards on the field. Like today for some odd reason he cut back left on the 4th down when all his blockers were going right. That was a terrible decision.

In other games, Mtsu, all the options when he keeps that he should pitch etc.

It's maddening but without him we'd be dead in the water.

Yes, we would be laughable without him right now. ED is a top 3-4 qb in this conference. Don't think dino is looking for a different qb for this system. A qb that can run makes any system that more dangerous. Look at wentz. The pocket trees of yesteryear are done. Imagine if Dino gave ED a running game. The question is, can our slim, aerobic lineman push anyone off the ball.

My biggest concern is that there is zero push by the o-line on run plays.

I am wondering if the conditioning program is putting to much training into cardio to run a high pace offense vs. brute strength for a ground game. Or is it that it appears this line is also on it's heels on every play thinking pass first.

Dungey is fine and very good in the short to medium passing game to run this offense it's just when he puts air under the ball the completion rate seems like it's about 5%.

My thoughts exactly. Yes, dino ran the ball at BG, but not against p5 fronts. Running the ball is simple physics simetimes, the beef wins out.

Sometimes scheme beats beef. You can run in this system with lesser talent. I think we just have no RB and a young OL. It's all up from here.

Now I know how you all felt when I questioned Nassib during his junior year. Dungey will be a 4 year starter, 3rd year in Dino's system, hold more records than McNabb, and people are really thinking that he losses his job to Devito, a frosh, with 0 game experience, in a 19 year old body?

Hard for 18/19 year olds to push around 22/23 year olds with 4 more years of strength training. Losing Roberts before the season was a killer to our running game. We had 0 depth behind him.

we are throwing for almost 100 yds a game more than the Opp.. our one 300 yd skews those rushing stats by almost 40 yds.

Yes we threw for 85 more yards but we have 40% more attempts so that's not that good the stats are skewed

You're pointing out the tempo gap. We get more possessions and snaps - so yardage stats only tell half the story. Imagine *when* our per play average jumps up to top 40 (it's currently in the 80's)... Or higher like top 10? Okay, no need to imagine just look a this:

Baylor 616.2 yards per game. #1 in the country.

Exactly we should have more to show for our passing game based on the amount of attempts ... work in progress

Do we get more possessions? we aren't going 3 and out and we aren't scoring quick all time either.. we had the ball 12 times vs LSU and NC St.. What we are doing is running plays faster and more of them per drive. Its not like we are getting 5-10 more possessions a game playing at this pace. We end up with lots of plays going shorter than the should for the amount we throw it because we cant run. We could get the same yards with less plays, but we end up throwing to be our running game.

Don't know about this year, but last year we had 2-3 more possessions. But our D gave up scores so easy, that could have been why.

But if we're running more plays at the same level of execution/efficiency as we are now, we can't help but have more possessions. In theory at least

but I don't think that dungey is what the staff wants at QB. I think that they have to try to make it happen, because Dungey is the best option at QB, so they are totally changing what they want to do based on the QB. regardless of the numbers, dungey is an option quarterback being shoehorned into a read/react passing offense. I don't think we will know what babers offense is until we see DeVito.
lololol

in fairness, my OP was not meant to knock Dungey, it was meant to point out that I think he runs too much. in eric's career, he averages around 13 rushing attempts per game. this year, he is over 14+ attempts per game, which I don't think is what the babers offense is meant for. I looked at garoppollo's senior year, he rushed only 70 times in 14 games, almost only a third of dungey's attempts. I like dungey, he is a great competitor and a really good college football player. I just think that in the long run, babers doesn't want the QB to run so much. for comparison sake, lamar Jackson and Louisville are also 4-3. he has passed for more yards than dungey, and has almost 250 yards more rushing on only 12 more attempts than dungey.

edit: I also looked up mariota, because he seems to be one of the few "hybrid" type QB's that has any success. he actually only average 8 attempts per game in college. cam newton ran almost 19 times per game in the year at auburn, but dungey is a better passer unless you use yards per attempt.
