I'm in a show hole, need suggestions

Did you finish Bodkin? I'm watching it now on the treadmill/stair climber and have liked it quite a bit. I just finished the 5th episode.
I had to google to refresh my memory.
No, did not care for it. I'm not sure how far i got, but i definitely didn't finish the season.
I like Will Forte. I just thought this project was an odd choice for him.

Speaking of Ireland, though—have you seen Derry Girls?

Not yet but I've heard it's hilarious.

Bodkin started slow for sure. The first episode was the least interesting. It's picked up steam. They've done some good narrative things developing secrets each character carries.

Anyone watch Your Friends and Neighbors yet? Wondering if good, really like Hamm.

Anyone watching The Studio (AppleTV)?

I was only half looking forward to it. I like Seth Rogen, and i'm a wannabe writer, so it's something i should be interested in, but there was another recent 'Hollywood' series that really turned me off. This one is supposed to be a comedy, as well, but i didn't find any of it to be fun, funny, or some sort of 'caustic perspective on the absurdities of Hollywood.' That's what is intended, but... i got nothing out of episode one, other than that they're already overrelying on cameos.

They also do that long, one-take shot thing like Adolescence, but not for the entire episode. In fact, it was quite bizarre to me that they began that way, and then just stopped and had what looked like a completely unnecessary cut. Almost as if they got tired of doing long takes, screwed up and said, that's it—abandon the theme. Then i think there were more long take shots, mixed with cuts. Kinda perplexing. And they didn't do them as well as Adolescence. I kept yelling at them to 'pull focus!'

Oh, well. Will try one more episode before i give up.

So I've watched the first few and, while funny, I'm not overly enjoying it. The whole thing kinda feels like Three's Company and what caper did Jack Tripper get himself into this week. Which really worked for that show, but wasn't what I was expecting from this one.

Catherine O'Hara helps, because I think she's great in everything. But I'm not exactly rushing to watch when the new ones come out. I'll probably keep it as show hole filler.

I don’t like it. Yet. I think I just need to get used to the idea that I’m not supposed to feel sorry enough for him to rationalize his new pursuit, with him still driving around in a Maserati, still living in a nice house, still flashing that credit card, still going to posh parties and restaurants, and still banging Olivia Munn.

Didn‘t love the ‘banter’—just didn’t do anything for me. And then the cheating wife, assh0le kids…. Who are we supposed to like? The only likable person is the stereotype—the black guy that had to be a basketball player….

Am I being harsh? Just feels like an overall study in douchery, and the antihero is and was a part of that world. What makes him any better? Because he was the ‘victim’ of infidelity? I don’t get it, yet.

Why do you have to like somebody? There’s been plenty of good shows where the characters are all extremely flawed.

I’m sure people who have worked in Hollywood find it to be hilarious. For the rest of us, meh.

That’s true. Succession started for me that way most recently. But if I don’t like the characters, I have to like watching them for some other reason. Whether it’s that they’re clever, funny, or the story is smart, funny, poignant… something. Flaws are not the issue. You can be flawed and still have redeeming qualities, or flawed and still interesting/compelling to watch. What I don’t enjoy is watching a flawed premise, and I haven’t reached the episode in this show where the premise makes enough sense to compel me to continue with it. But, it’s Hamm and it’s Apple, so I’ll try the next episode and hope it develops. As I’ve confessed many times, I didn’t like Breaking Bad the first time I tried watching it, either.

I’m not even sure Hollywood people really enjoy it. I think there has been an overestimation of the public’s interest in how the sausage is made. There’s another series on Max that is a comedy Hollywood ‘inside look’ thing. The Franchise.

I’m a Hollywood wannabe, lived in LA for 8 years and have a few industry connections, and still i don‘t like either of those shows. Oh, and the other one that was recent, The Sympathizer with Robert Downey Juniors. Almost interesting. Not quite.

There was one a few years ago that was pretty good—the series remake of the film Get Shorty. But I don’t remember that as being an attempt to ‘skewer‘ the industry. Maybe it’s just the parody stuff that feels like it appeals only to the smallest club.

Did you watch "The Offer", the series on Paramount about Albert Ruddy, starring Miles Teller, and the making of the Godfather. Everyone i know liked it. I can't vouch for the Hollywood aspect of it, but seemed fairly realistic.

Spoiler alert: Juno Temple, if you loved her on Ted Lasso, you will love her in The Offer.

I thought she was great in the last season of Fargo as well, pitted against a villainous Jon Hamm.

No, I forgot about that. Don’t have Paramount, but I’ll find it somehow. Thanks for the reminder. I do like Juno Temple! Yeah, in addition to the Fargo thing, she was good earlier in Vinyl, about the 70s music industry, a show I wish had been picked up for a second season.

i'm about 4 in on yellowjackets S3. getting a bit more psychedelic . lotta visions some quite bizarre. but let me state for the record (once again) Misty effen Quigley is the best . she alone is worth the watch.

Really liked season 1, somewhat liked season 2. Haven't started season 3 and not sure I'll ever get to it because it seemed like it was driving off a cliff.

I'm still processing episode two of season two. Rather intense.
Yeah. I guess people who play the game expected it, but I have zero familiarity with then anything other than the series. I’m shocked and disappointed. I have a feeling this is going to go the way of The Walking Dead for me. I was into that show for a long time, even watching the aftershow programs. And then I just got tired of it/worn down by the bleakness. With this (s2e2) development, half of the show’s appeal is gone.

I'm going to stick with it and see where it goes. I too know nothing going into it
