I'm in a show hole, need suggestions

Really? I had to stop watching it.
Yeah, I liked it. It was mostly silly, with a little dark. Kind of White Lotusish, but sillier. It was nice to see someone other than Nicole Kidman play a powerful but mysterious female boss. Julianne Moore did a nice job. I think everyone was excellent, particularly, Meghann Fahy. I had my doubts about her ability to carry a show, but she was great.

We flew through it in one night. I have not been excited by much of anything lately, so my expectations were low. I am happy if something manages to keep my attention for five episodes.

I just tried again, after starting and stopping three times. It’s just bad. Offensively stupid. I wish I could have considered it “silly”—I can like silly.

I love Julianne Moore. Never heard of Fahy. I absolutely hate her character. Gross and ridiculous. I liked Milly from House of the Dragon, but she’s just ‘eh’ here. Not bad, just a victim of the material [!].

Just finished today. I think Season 2 absolutely blows Season 1 out of the water to be honest. It's cemented Cassian as the quintessential Star Wars character in my opinion. This show is an incredible achievement.

Echo this. Episode 1 was the only downer for Andor for me and then everything else just got better and better. It was hands down the best series they’ve done for Star Wars and then to tie it in to transition perfectly with Rogue One was just perfect. It’s hard to find other timelines and characters to build out and potentially equal the same quality but I hope they try.

The Andor story also is just the perfect series for the current times we are in while also being a fitting series to anyone who is a WW2 history buff and enjoys the similarities there as well.

So the wife is a huge Star Trek fan and she finally got me into watch some of the other Star Trek series that are lesser known. Just now watching Enterprise with Scott Bakula and really impressed. Great to have the pre Kirk story line done so well and hope some of the newer reboots look at doing a remake on this or looking at the timelines from the near Earth collapse, to Cochran and then to the establishment of Star Fleet and Captain Archer.

Also T’Pol is right there against 7 of 9 in terms of hottest Star Trek lady.

I've been meaning to give the nascar version a shot. Loved drive to survive, turned me into a full fledged F1 addict.

Haven't paid attention to Nascar since Ward Burton was running, but jumped on the nascar board this year at the VFW back home. Went to Watkins last year for the first time in a while, had a blast. Will be back this year for sure
New 4 part doc on Dale Earnhardt was just released on Prime and it's excellent.

I liked Enterprise very much. It deserved another season. It might have had a better reception in today’s streaming world. (And if it had a more traditional star-treky theme song ;).)

Yeah the theme song was just dumb. The intro was still great image wise just awful song choice.

Been watching “Adults” on Hulu/FX. It’s trying to be Gen Z’s How I Met Your Mother/New Girl/Happy Endings/Broad City, all in the same show. Good writing and acting especially considering the cast isn’t experienced but I feel like I’ve seen all these characters before. Created by two former writers for Weitsman’s favorite late-night host.

Watch the Americas if you have Peacock. Ten episodes one hour each. Fascinating with hanks as the narrator.

Watched another episode of The Studio last night. Can't stand it. Seth Rogen is incredibly annoying and grating. Waste of a pretty good cast (minus Rogen) and premise.

Finished Your Friends and Neighbors and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. Just don't take it seriously.

I didn't know what to make of The Studio after the first episode but I've really gotten into it. To me, it makes fun of the parts of Hollywood that probably deserve it. But I can see why it wouldn't be for everyone.

Good point. I like the show minus Rogen. His act just wears thin for me quickly. His buddy Sal’s hilarious, and Bryan Cranston and Katherine O’Hara are great as usual in their limited roles.

Agree about Seth. The supporting cast really carried the show for me. Sal cracked me up in pretty much every scene he was in.

Watched the last episode last night and thought it was great! My criticism was a tad harsh and premature.

My 'rundown' of recent stuff:

Poker Face — Peacock?
I think i'm up to date into season 2. After the first few episodes of season one, i got a bit tired of the formula. Then hit an episode that sorta 'refreshed' me. Really enjoyed the series, even though there were a couple of bad episodes, and throughout there are a few dumb/headscratcher moments.

Friends and Neighbors—Apple
Once i passed the threshold where i just recognized i wasn't going to like or empathize with anyone, it was... fine. Not good. The ending/resolution was kinda... not good. The sister turned out to be sort of an . I hate the way everything was resolved for everyone... The more interesting plotlines just got abandoned... Uggh. Oh, well.

Sirens — Netflix
Awful dreck. Julianne Moore was fantastic. Really hate this type of 'female-oriented' fantasy melodrama stuff. Like with Bridgerton, i guess the theme is that women want every crescendo to be associated with a ball or a gala or a wedding... Some stuff just didn't make any sense here. Some stuff was just insipid. But, it all had a very pretty sheen. I think the Nicole Kidman 'rich people' series was probably better, but that, too, had zero substance so i don't even remember much about it. Someone mentioned that you might like this if you liked White Lotus. I hated White Lotus (season 1), so disregard everything i just wrote if you disagree there.

Running Point — Netflix
Kate Hudson in sort of a Jeannie Buss story. She's running an LA basketball team. The show is watchable, but like other Mindy Kaling projects, it has the stench of superficiality and plastic. There are some fun bits, and some warm-ish bits—enough to propel it. Again, not good. But, not awful.

MobLand — Paramount+
Big, loud, grisly. Kinda fun. Lots of over the top acting that just seems to fit the mood and atmosphere. I expect there will be a season 2. I look forward to it.

Andor, s2 — Disney
I guess i should reserve judgement until i finish the last couple of episodes, but this has been a disappointment. It gets better as the season progresses, so i guess there's the potential for it to finish on the plus side, but i'm still just not enjoying it. Maybe it's good/smart/whatever, but it isn't smart and fun, the way season 1 was. This season, the smartness has become tedious. And there have been some headscratching plotlines that i don't expect will be resolved/fulfilled.

Edit: Episode 10 was really good. The actress who played young Kleya was fantastic. I can see her becoming something the way Bella Ramsey’s Lyanna Mormont propelled her into The Last of Us. April V Woods. Remember that name.

Also—the set design/architectural CGI is amazing. The environments are so perfectly rendered. Except, in such an advanced society, one would think there’d be fewer stairs.

Dept. Q — Netflix
Just started. Dark and gritty in that 'british' way. Might be good, but the first episode was annoying in that characters too often think consistently being a is the way to demonstrate intelligence.

The Residence — Netflix
Only got into the beginning of episode 2. Just don't care for it. Annoying fluff.

Dexter: Original Sin
I liked the original Dexter series for what it was. This doesn't have the same charm, maybe because the younger actors trying to be the original older actors don't have the same charm or character? I dunno. I guess maybe the origin story could have been worked out in an episode or two. I don't need an entire series of it.

Black Mirror — Netflix
More of the same. Which is mostly good, almost always 'smart.' Not always entertaining. Depends on the episode. I find this is a show i will just watch randomly, maybe when i can't find anything else. Because it's anthological, there's never a building of affinity for any characters or storylines. It's just haphazard, whether i'll 'bond' with an episode. No continuity means no allegiance or compulsion to go to the next episode. But, it's good stuff. High-ish level, always (?) with a technology theme, i think.

Duster — Max
This has been okay. It's a 70s-ish theme. The guy from Lost teamed with the producer from Lost, with another couple of actors from Lost... Black female FBI agent in the 70s, tracking a criminal enterprise. Not great. Good enough.

Mickey17 — Max (film)
An interesting concept. Not interesting enough in its execution to get me through it in one go. I guess i watch about 20 minutes of it at a time. Maybe i'll finish it.

The Last of Us — Max
I thought season one was more interesting. I saw season two's finale without even realizing it was over. I guess that means it was anticlimactic and unsatisfying?

The Studio — Apple
I have not gone back to this, following episode 2. For someone who really wants to work 'in Hollywood,' that's kinda remarkable. I like Seth Rogen. I just don't think the showbiz snark approach is very cleverly executed. I will probably have to see the rest, though. After the NBA season ends, and there's only baseball...

Stick — Apple
I'm very anti-golf. But, i'm watching this. Not for the golf. I don't like golf. Golf sucks. There's Caddyshack, and that's it for reasons to watch golf-related material. That's all i'll say about golf... Owen Wilson is good for this role. He can just carry it. I think i'm only into episode three(?), so maybe i'll get tired of it, but i don't think so. It's probably a pretty standard storyline, but there also aren't a lot of faults in it.

Government Cheese — Apple
Not sure about this. It has good atmosphere/aesthetics. I don't know what it means to be or where it will go. Another show i watch as a fallback.

Long Bright River — Max
Decent. Maybe Amanda Seyfried's best acting? Not sure what that means—the bar hasn't been especially high. I like her.

Dope Thief — Apple
Pretty good. Not sure what they could do for a season 2.

Murderbot — Apple
Didn't like the half of episode one i saw. Not sure i could effectively spell out why. Just a dumb premise?

Already discussed The Pitt and Top of the Lake. Good stuff.

I forgot:
Mountainhead — Max
Group of tech billionaire friends on a 'retreat' while their products contribute to the collapse of society or somesuch. By the guy who brought us Succession. Not sure what the objective was here. It paints them all as being pretty ugly. It's very industry jargon- and richpeople slang-heavy. They're all unlikable except the one guy who doesn't quite have a billion yet. What's the message? At times, it felt like HBO gave the guy 30 million dollars to make his next project, off the back of the success of Succession, and he spent 5 million to get Steve Carell, and then $200,000 to make the film.

Agree! Bryan Cranston definitely had an interesting time in Vegas. Hopefully not spoiling it too much for others.

Fountain of Youth — Apple
I like Krasinski. I like Natalie Portman. I like Carmen Ejogo. And i love some Guy Ritchie films (Snatch, Rocknrolla, especially; and the Mobland series discussed above). But, holy crap, this is bad. I really don't understand who it's made for. I keep trying to watch it and then every six minutes i have to stop because of something so... dumb... that i laugh out of anger. Anyone differ on that? Please fight me!

Alto Knights — Max?
Directed by Barry Levinson (for some reason, throughout, i thought it was Scorsese) with Robert De Niro in dual roles. It's a time-hopping NY mafia thing. It's actually pretty good. A biographical thing about Frank Costello and Vito Genovese. Very 'director-y' with a ton of mostly well-created fake 'vintage' footage and photographs. It's good. Ironically, the one objection i had while watching was the dual role thing. It's hard not to see (and keep looking for) De Niro in both characters. It would have taken that falseness out of the equation by eliminating the gimmick. That said, he did a pretty good job in both roles, though, again, two different actors would have diversified the two individuals to a more believable extent.

Long Way Home — Apple
Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman touring scandinavia on vintage motorcycles. I love this. It reminds me of how i loved watching the Anthony Bourdain show, where he traveled around the world, experiencing so many different cultures and meeting beautiful people, though i couldn't eat 90% of the things they showed. This is similar—i might one day consider getting a motorcycle, but the camping aspect... is not for me. Anyway, i think i preferred the previous season, as there may have been more diversity to the landscapes and cultures, but this one is still very touching. The people are just lovely. Gives me a bit of relief/hope, seeing that the world isn't just like our rhetorical civil war.

I enjoyed the book on which Mickey17 was based (Mickey7) much more than the film. Pattinson's performance was great but Bong-Joon Ho went far out of his way to make the boss a Trump/Bezos/Musk analog, and a corny and unoriginal one, at that.

It has been out for awhile but I liked Tokyo Vice in MAX. Fun show and interesting story.

I tried watching Alto Knights on a flight the other day, was a little not soberish, but was having a hell of a time trying to figure out who the other actor was. I kept thinking, "I feel like it's De Niro, but it can't be, because he's the other guy". Finally it was too much for my buzz, so I just watched something else lol

Dept Q. - Mathew Goode is always solid. Police procedural covering a character driven show. Everyone is heavily flawed.

Mobland - Tom Hardy is understandable without subtitles for the most part. Paddy is great. Sorta Shakespearian

Clarkson’s Farm - love it
