I'm nervous this is a wake me up in a year situation

We are going to have real issues at the point, I worry about shooting as usual, and I think they can't defend

It's 11/4 I need to relax but it's hard to have confidence
I think the "is red the right guy" conversation is going to happen end of this year.

The defense last night made me gag so much that i turned off the game. We either are a team that is a collection of one year dudes who can't play man defense or we become a team that can play man2man complimentary that works.

It's concerning to no end. I think we're going to learn how good a coach we had here for 40 plus years. He lasted too long (and i'm not looking to get into that argument) but a hall of fame coach will smooth over alot of deficiencies.

Goal is the tournament. Nothing else.

This team isn’t talented. You can’t fill up a roster of mid majors and underperforming P4 guys and expect anything else.

We need to lock up the 2025 class and look to overhaul a lot of the roster.

Red needs to keep growing as a coach.

Through that lens, it’s fine.

A mid-major (Davis) led the team last night. Carlos had foul trouble - not his best performance, but we will see.

It isn’t the roster that matters as much as the top 7. In that top group, you have a top 10 recruit, who will certainly get better over the course of the season and JJ and Bell who can provide scoring. Add Lampkin for some bulk we lacked last season. Plenty to work with including Moore who is raw but also has potential.

I don’t know that overall it is “fine” and the defense certainly needs to improve. Still, no reason to slit wrists after one game.

If we don’t sniff the tourney I think things get a lot harder. Need to find a way to get wins.

I do think this team has some talent but the problem is whether it has enough talent at the right positions. Unless we show something much different against Colgate I feel like we need a Hail Mary in the form of Chance Westry to be a big contributor along with Choppa and Cuffe too. This is not a year where we can afford to just figure it out come conference season. For the young guys sure but for the vets- not so much

If Davis is our best player, we will be on the bubble at best.

Nowwww I remember why I stop coming to this board during bball season. Usually it’s about 5-6 games in. This year it only took 1. My goodness are some of you depressing
Maybe if you took the offseason LEVELING expectations instead of building up guys to unreachable levels, it wouldn't be so depressing for you.

I'm not depressed about the team at all. I expected this level of play. I expect them to get better on offense and there will be games we go crazy like the UNC game last year and beat some good teams.

The defense is the least surprising part of this. It was staring us in the face all offseason. Some just wanted to mock it. *shrug*

Its 1 game guys. 1 game.
Correct. But I hate that phrase "all that matters is we won". Not true. Not with a team like ours that is full of new players and trying to figure out how to build a winning team. Against LeMoyne. Thankfully we pulled off the win because that would have been unbelievably damaging for any postseason play which sounds absurd, but it's true!

I’ll say I had a gut feeling things would be dicey in game one against our newly D1 neighbor. Something tells me Colgate goes much differently and everyone gets to take a collective breath. Hopefully the gut is 2 for 2( not that I wanted to be right for Lemoyne).

I expect them to maybe make the tournament. What they aren't is an all world team with an all world coach. I'm not depressed. This is what I expected.

I've had to deal with this year over year while we've been mediocre or bad (for our standards).

I don't think anyone is a bad guy. I don't think a guy like Lampkin or Davis is a terrible player. But what they aren't are all americans.

The evidence has pointed to this the whole time, btw. It's meeting expectations.

I actually like this team and think it will grow and get better together as the season goes. The defense needs to shore up but we will shoot better from outside then we did last night. I suspect we will be on the bubble come February and be a contender for the dance.

I think it's always good to breathe and take a step back -- good or bad. So I'm with you on both counts, trying not to get too bent out of shape. But I will say I think the tournament feels like a reach for this group and my bigger worry than that is actually that I'm a bit concerned about Red long-term. Not a 'fire red!!!!' post, just curious to see what our adjustments are and how we proceed in terms of accentuating the positives and trying to scheme around the deficiencies. Whether that means 12-13 wins or 20 is still a question I'm pondering, but if it wound up being a bad season where the roster didn't come together the way he hoped I can live with a bad season. Hopefully, in that scenario, he can find ways to put better rosters together going forward. But it's more that I was really hoping to see some significant strategic adjustments this year and in one tiny sample, we didn't see that.

nice to have forwards that show some grit and passion.
Exactly. We need the easy baskets every now and then and our inside game won it for us down the stretch last night. (I understand that ACC bigs will be better than the LeMoyne players.)

They certainly will be, but you cant teach grit and the want to win. We dont look passive or timid and I love it.

It's funny you say that because the game thread consistently said we "weren't playing hard" which I disagreed with as well. (Except for Bell on a couple occasions)

I thought we were trying. We just dont have great defenders.

All that grit and want just to be up by 2 with LeMoyne having the ball with 20s left.

The minimum should be a "want to win", however you quantify such a thing.

"team like ours that is full of new players..". Nine players on Lemoyne roster not on their D-2 team last year
