I need to start defensively. Blitzing at colgate was improved butstill with little interior stunts. Ya gotta find a weak link in their oline and attack it. Gotta let dt go outside and de go inside or swap 1 shade and 3 shade on inside stunts or all 4 use otside litzes whil we send backer and safety inside. their is 100 years of history in blitzing. Gotta get better at it. Dline run game has to improve too. We gotta change the line of scrimmage 2 yards back. That way our lb s can come down hill and smack that sh outta people and it would be a 1or 2 yds gain. Lb has to really focus on downhill. If they pass stab ft in ground and get to your hook curl spots depending on where qb shoulders are. The good teams will still go after Samuel cause he is young. They have gotta mix up man to man and zone looks. Cant be 10 yds of cause your taelling them u dont think your good enough. Offense, we gotta run run run the damn ball. We have got to start pulling dudes like last year at end or we gotta get bigger dudes in. We have no FIRE off ball and move people mentality. Good running teams do. Please dont say RPO cause we dont have oline fast enough yet or strong enough to move them more than 3 yds off ball. Lets worry abou that latter ya know. More willis in power sets and some of that young kid with the moves , Hill. He shifty. Angelli can be good when he doesnt throw off back ft. The ball will sail when he does. Also gtta trust our guys to make plays cause we can catch the ball. What else do u guys think we need.

I would love to hear someone ask Fran why we don't run interior stunts. I do think I saw a couple vs Colgate, those may have been the first all season. But come on, where are they?

I also feel like when we run off-tackle we are far more successful than running between the tackles and should really attack the edge vs Clemson. Neutralize Heldt who according to Dabo is playing like the best Defensive Lineman they have. Woods hasn't played like a top 10 pick but at some point he may wake from his slumber. Even against UT it seemed we were better attacking the edge with our big tackles, I don't see the push needed from the interior OL.

Especially for Willis... who has power/speed. We have had some good interior runs by both Willis and Nixon... but I do think we need to mix it up a little.

I like it when a team changes tempo. Speed up, slow down, keep defenses guessing. Don’t let them get comfortable.
I think our offense works best when working quickly. The less of the "guys shifting around and looking to the sideline with 10 seconds on the play clock," the better. Then again, maybe someone can analyze the film and prove me wrong... maybe we do better in those plays. Just does not always feel like it.

Our game plan needs to start with running the football more consistently. Establishing the run will allow us to control the clock, dominate the time of possession, and wear down opposing defenses. By the fourth quarter, their front seven will be gassed while our big offensive line is still leaning on them, opening up opportunities for chunk plays and play-action shots down the field. A committed ground game doesn’t just move the chains—it sets the tone physically and gives our defense time to rest.

Defensively, we need to stop playing so passive and start bringing the pressure. Blitz, blitz, and blitz again. Make the quarterback uncomfortable, speed up his reads, and force turnovers. Aggressive defense creates momentum and puts us in position to flip the field. Sitting back only lets the opponent dictate the tempo, and that has to change.

Equally important is getting off the field on third downs. Too many drives are being extended by mental lapses, poor tackling, or soft coverage. If we can tighten up on third down, we’ll shorten drives, keep our defense fresh, and give the ball back to our offense to continue controlling the game.

If we run the ball with purpose, play aggressive on defense, and lock in on third down stops, we’ll be the team wearing opponents down late and finishing strong. This formula wins games in the trenches, and that’s where football is always decided.

I also think that Clemson is going to lean on QB runs a lot more than prior opponents. They are a wounded dog. No point in saving their QB... if they lose this week, the season is essentially over. Going to be hard to finish the season with 9 straight wins (6 ACC games, South Carolina, and ACC CG against Miami, FSU, or Georgia Tech). So we better be able to contain the QB runs. If that means a little less blitzing that we might want, then so be it. We need to get pressure the QB with our Front 4. That seems unlikely... but we have seen stranger things. I find it hard to believe that we ran better against Tennessee than UConn and Colgate, but so be it.

Like Fran said after Q1 in Tennessee, we need to weather the storm, relax, and play. We need to do the same this week... keep this game even after Q1. Keep it even after Q2. If this game is tied headed into halftime, that stadium is going to be tense. That will be the "have we really lost the elite status" moment for the fans and perhaps their team. In fact, they might start thinking that Clemson is this year's 2024 FSU.

So very true

I haven't charted anything but apparently the blitz rate has picked up a good amount. That is tragic if true.

Just keep posting. Would rather read your thoughts and opinions than most of the well formatted drivel that gets posted here. Great post.
Yep it's a message board not High School grammar. If that where the case I would have failed out of here years ago lol.

I've read that also and it was scary some of our blitzes just ran into the wall against Gate and seemed disorganized.
