The crux of the point is that the uniform is a deviation from the brand ... whether or not you agree it looks good is irrelevant ... they have deviated from the brand that is Syracuse football. That is what OrangePA is driving at as well as bees.

That's an opinion, not a fact. In my opinion it's a new iteration of the brand - much like every iteration of the uniform, end zones, Otto, etc. I don't love it and prefer something closer to the Nassib era uni's. I understand and respect the position many of the more traditional posters have taken. I just don't think it's a black mark on our history or destroying something holy. Like I said - had we finished an undefeated season and were playing Oregon on New Year's Day - we'd all be on our way to believing "this is the Syracuse look"...

well i guess us oldies are out of date with our traditions such as unis, orangemen, etal what it tells me is that you are unaware of tradition as it applies to us. tradition means having a good foundation. we had a BRAND as the newbies call it now---it was orangemen and orange color, your definition of brand is not related to su or discernible to syracuse in anyway, and is now a laughing stock of a program in search of an identity. enjoy it, us oldies find it more sad than anything else. there is a way to grow to keep up with times and su has not done so. foundation is the best way --we gave that up----go orange pa

If i could dream.

Friday with the Old Scout.

Game day would start with a slice at the Varsity

The Saltine Warrior would lead us onto the field.

We would wear an updated version of our National championship Unis.

44 would be back in play as a jersey given not to our best player but to our One and only one team captain

Penn State would be the game of the year, every year

We would always play Army or Navy.

Each home game would start at 1:30 Saturdays only.

Our Marching Band would be second to none.

Key scores would be announced during the game.

Post game would be at the Varsity, or Hotel Syracuse with a warm loaf of Columbus bread on the way home.

Sunday would start when the Post Standard was on the door step.

I would love for Syracuse to switch from Nike to Under Armour. Nike doesn't give a rip about the Uni's they design for us - clearly. And I think UA is on the rise as a brand anyways, starting to become more popular and preferred.

Under Armour couldn't do any worse than Nike.

USC and SU are competitors - they are major conference members who are looking to win the NC.
.
You really believe Syracuse Football is trying to win a National Title? Come on, seriously? They pay nothing to assistants. They are sticking with an unproven coach who is coming off a 3 win season. And the program has been bad for a very long time. You honestly think SU is going into 2015 or 2016 or 2017 with eyes of a National Title? That's insane

We have a great brand - a great traditional uniform - and we don't need the BS.

If you feel inferior, that's your issue.
1) Don't feel inferior
2) "great brands" don't have 10+ year runs when they are totally irrelevant on the national stage

I hear what you are saying I just totally disagree. The world has changed. America's youth has changed. If you think these kids these days care about the distant past and "tradition" and guys who played in the 50's and 60's I just think you are mistaken. It's a what have you done for me lately society. With all the money in sports and the way the NFL and NBA draft get covered on TV, kids want to get to that draft and make big bucks. They don't care who Syracuse sent to the NFL in 1960, they care who they sent in 2012 and 2013. Your tradition is your last seasons record. That is sad...but its reality!

It's not my favorite look - but it is an iteration. I'm a graphic designer and have been for 15 years.

I don't know how many times I have to say this: I too wish there were more orange and I wish we'd lose the font for the numbers.

The foundation of the program is not uniform design, thankfully.

and i hear you. tradition is not just the guys who played in the 50's and 60's but rather a consistent identity that says who we are. you are right kids are a what have you done for me lately. what makes programs stand out is an identity that we have lost, through a lack of investment in the program for many years, changes in unis that have no relevance to the school, and losing program. we need to get back to basics and unis, among other things, are a part of that. marrone was on the right track, had the attitude and the focus. with the ipf and the statues that they are talking about are finished it will be a celebration of tradition, together with the history already on display. i somewhat disagree, that all kids are like you say, and would respect what they may see. we will never be michigan, alabama, blah, blah etc. but we can be syracuse orangemen---who people used to recognize and not laugh at us

You're off to a really bad start here.

Maybe you should meander on over to the Alabama or FSU boards since, by your own description, they're two of the few teams with meaningful "tradition".

I agree. It's not about us old guys. It's about the kids. It's their program and they are on the field. If they want to pick the uniforms go for it. As I said in my earlier post, we can't compare our history to that of Texas, USC, or Penn St. They have a better history and a far richer football tradition. They don't need to change uniforms they can say this is it take it or leave it. Syracuse, not on that level, has to do whatever it takes to attract kids to the school. If that means going with funky uniforms then so be it

It's not the kids program. They are here from 1 year to 5 years and most are never heard from again. Most don't donate, they don't come to games, and they are casual fans at best once they leave. Are there exceptions? Sure. So is it their program because it was a stop over? I don't think so. It's the schools and the fans who have supported it over the long haul. If the team wins, good players will be proud to don the Orange and Blue. The uniform thing is an unneeded distraction. Recruits should be about football, not fashion.

We are talking about uniforms, not offensive systems or playcalling - or athletic department budgeting. Besides the best teachers meet their students half way, build relationships, make exceptions and offer choices in the small things. You know like "pick a famous author and write a 20 page paper on x."
Maybe that's the new way of educating. And maybe the fact that our level of education is sinking like a rock in water now that we expect less and get less is just a coincidence.

It's official. Thread time of death: 11:28am Christmas Eve.

Everyone have a great holiday! Truly blessed to have a place where we can cheer for and argue about Syracuse stuff. Here's to 2015 being a much better year for football.

You forgot Art Monk, Joe "Doc"Alexander, Biggie Munn, Vic Hanson, Sadet-Sing, Joe Morris, Dan Conley, Todd Philcox, Donovan Darius, Jameel McClain, Shamarko Thomas, Olinda Mare, Morlon Greenwood, Ted Gregory, Pat Gedney, Markus Paul, Kevin Abrams, Craig Wolfley, Antonio Anderson, Rob Carpenter, Marvin Graves and so many more. Oh good lord I think we could do this all day.

You're right.

How could I forget Art Monk?!

Wow.

It's a fact not an opinion. Syracuse Orange. Otto the Orange. Orange outs.

I agree on both counts.

Meh. Still opinion.

The things I listed are opinions? Must be you don't follow SU.

More Orange, less Otto, is that what I'm reading? So conflicting.

Otto is great. Keep him. Just wear more orange, which is dumb to even have to say out loud.

Otto's nickname is Orangy.

I've repeatedly been all in on changing the current uni's to more orange. I don't know why you think otherwise.

We were the ORANGEMEN...then they dropped the men from the name and the Orange from the uniform.

Where does it end??

In a van, down by the river?
