I think he can be effective enough to win games, but he can't be the focal point of the offense. His style of running lends itself to getting hit and he is not able to distribute the ball all over the field due to his accuracy. In our second 2 games he got the work load of a featured back and took a decent number of hits in the ND game.
I played for a coach in college who wanted to run an uptempo spread and make the quarterback the focal point of the offense when our personnel was better suited to the power run game. it's not that our qb was bad, but couldn't do what the coach was asking of him. we also ran an awful "hurry up, no huddle" offense where we stood around waiting to get the call in and snapped the ball with 15 on the clock. Left a lot of games getting beat by 2-3 scores and wondering how we lost so badly to a team that had a similar level of talent. Coach was a good guy, but too wrapped up in his system to make the necessary changes in his game plan and play selection.
Hunt has his warts, and in the grand scheme of things is pretty inexperienced in the passing game. He's tough, motivated and I think he can make the throws required of a game manager. We need to lean on the run game, use the play action pass, move the pocket and give him some run/pass options. I also think his arm allows us to take some shots when the time is right (not second and 10, which I have seen a couple of times). It's not the prettiest football in the world, but we have to take a little pressure off the defense. getting 6 is not out of the realm of possibility and extra practices are going to help the young guys tremendously
