In the last 4 years...Only 3 ACC teams have not won 20 games in at least 1 year

Anyone who suggests this team could make a run to the NIT final four I swear on my autographed picture of Billy Celuck in mismatched shorts* I’ll come for you.

*I don’t actually own this but I’d pay a pretty penny for it
May want to talk to this guy.

I have two signed SU basketball pictures framed at my house...

One is Carmelo Anthony..

The other is Billy Celuck

"We could end up like BC if JB left." Newsflash we are BC with JB.
This is what I don't think people realize. This program has fallen so far over the last decade, and some won't accept it. They point to a couple of fun March runs and say "see, all good!". When you start to point to seasons when you were the last team in as a success because the tourney broke right for you, you know you're in trouble.

Frankly, I don’t believe these “all that matters is the dance”, guys.

I highly doubt they had their pitchforks out in 91 or 05 or whatever. I bet they were defending JB for having a great year, and it wouldn’t surprise me if they were lamenting over the randomness of a one and done tournament.

Bingo. If your argument is small sample sizes in a tournament with a million variables, you're sunk. If you don't want to look at the full body of work and the trending of the program, you're in deep doodoo.

When you get down to it, is a five month regular season of thirty plus games or a three week single elimination tournament where most teams play 1-2 games more indicative of a programs health?

I would say 90-95% chance we're in a play-in game those seasons.
07 and 08 we’d have been in. 02 probably a playoff game.

08 is probably a little iffier. I didn’t think we were a bubble team in 07.

All we had to do was Beat Nova in 2008. I def think we were in if it was 68.

BC
Georgia Tech
Syracuse (assuming we dont win 4 more games this year)

every single other team has had at least one year of 20 wins.
...and yes, I know we played less games in 2020, but so did everyone else

Despite what some like to sell...that seems real bad.
To be fair both SU and Gtech might have been able to if they played a full schedule in 20-21. At least Gtech won an acct.

Yes

That’s not even the real problem. The issue lies with JB’s ego. He refuses to see this. Flat out refuses the notion. Just listen to his delusion.

“We knew this team would struggle coming into this year. 16 wins is pretty close to what people projected. People complained we haven’t been ranked in the last 10 years. We went to sweet 16s and a Final Four and wound up ranked.”

“People are not happy with 16-12 We’ve had a couple of bad years in a row. That’s unusual. A lot of schools would take that, and be happy with it.”
JB is a master of “grasping at straws” and it’s only getting worse as the performance slides. Just once I would like him to place the blame for the poor performance squarely on himself. His ego as become such a liability. It’s basically killing the program.

I would say the past decade of regular seasons is probably a fair barometer lol

Yeah it could get worse but is there really a big difference between 17-14 and 13-18?

I’m not worried about that, personally.
Yeah, we’re at the point where there is no “worse” for me. The last 2 seasons are as bad as it could possibly get - completely irrelevant, played in zero big games, beat nobody good, blown out frequently, losing to scrub schools(the old “cupcakes”), zero buzz, any national coverage we get is negative and caused by our coach acting like a jackass, zero excitement, zero fun.

There is absolutely nothing positive or fun happening. It can’t get worse.

I'm fully prepared for a robust discussion of "look at what you made us do" from a segment of fans when JAB's successor stumbles to a losing record in the first season.

That said, my expectation is that the right hire can get the team to the NCAAs in their first year, as the best case scenario, most likely scenario is that they stumble to a .500-ish record, and I think that SU is a big enough school with enough resources to avoid a Louisville situation, which I think is the result of more than just coaching - that program is a dumpster fire from the bottom to the top of the AD right now.

Like, this might sound nuts, but I'm not even necessarily opposed to things getting worse.

That's something different at least, and variety is the spice of life as they say.

Iowa state went from 2-22 to 22-13.

The "95% of fans still want me to coach" is one of the most out of touch comments I've ever seen him make (and that's saying something). He's become so detached from reality that I just can't understand how someone hasn't stepped in to save him from himself. It's sad. He just refuses to accept what's in front of him for the past decade.
