How accurate do you perceive player rankings are? Most folks here have been long time fans and observe players rankings and subsequent performance so I assume some have good observations. Would most argue too 10 are pretty accurate but after that it gets muddy?

Secondly, who do you think ranks players most accurately? Is one group head and shoulders above others?

To me it’s more of attracting the players that fit your system and who will grow their skills throughout their time in the program while being focused on team cohesion over individual accomplishments.

To answer your question; the best rankings are those that come from good basketball minds whose player ratings are based upon seeing the players in action over their development, including High School, AAU and all star events

Having the best players for your program goes back to my original thesis statement.

If you look at success in the NBA and other top level leagues throughout the world; many of the top players were under recruited out of High School, like Stef Curry!

To further evaluate a players potential look at who they surround themselves with; who are they most influenced by.

Top 5 rankings are very good.
Top 10-15 are good…
After that it’s a crap shoot.

I'd look at successful basketball coaches who have always recruited well and have bags to give.

I think fit and the ability of the coaches to develop players is more important than rankings. I agree with the comment above. Tbh once you're outside the best 20-30 players you just don't know.

Definitely not accurate, but has gotten much better than it used to be. Guys like James Southerland and Triche were 3 star guys back then.

Top 10 almost never miss. Next 15 to 20 have a great shot at stardom. From 30 to 150 you can get great to washout.
