A lot of people care whether the offense kinda sucks or really sucks

Once it kinda sucks, the season is over to me and I eject so it doesn't matter much

We have enough trouble getting one QB who doesn't suck, we will have a lot of trouble getting two now

There are built in excuses now, I know.

Robinson is a joke and if he's back then so is brown. You don't give him an ultimatum , if he doesn't fire him on his own, you get rid of brown. This is a test of whether this guy cares about Syracuse or whether he cares about something else

I prefer a normal coach, I thought his act was stupid immediately but if they throw a lot with a good QB I'm fine

But you can't give a defensive coach like this a third year

I’ve wondered if ERob was Fran’s defensive coordinator because he is a loyal friend and wouldn’t complain if Fran preferenced offensive players over defense in terms of NIL. I know absolutely nothing this is uninformed speculation.

Setting aside that speculation I imagine it’s tough to rebuild a D1 program. There’s a lot of people talking at Fran who have various interests in our program and how it’s run. It’s gotta be tough to navigate that on your own and make sure your voice gets heard. Having friends and family as part of the program may ensure Frans message gets heard loud and clear. And maybe that needed to come from a position of true authority and not just an assistant coach.

Again, all speculation. Being results based is good, I wish we knew more about the inner workings of the program. I surely don’t want to see a defense this poor ever again. I can only hope there’s a reason why we’ve even seen it to date.

What’s really weird is how bad this team was this year in every aspect and last year they were 10-3. Great season last year with a great group of seniors and a once in a lifetime portal QB. The defense has been horrific for 2 years though. We will see what next year looks like? It honestly could be anything but I agree if EROB is back, Fran has made a huge mistake. I don’t think there is an assistant coach on staff that should keep their job. Fran should just recruit and say goofy acronyms and dumb one liners. No coaching though

I'll play ball here as a mainly former defensive player. It's really hard to blame the defense this year albeit its become a board albatross of sorts. Our offense, post Angeli, directly gave up more points than the scored.

The defense single handedly had us up on UNC at half, the ND game was 21-0 before they touched the field, had us within a TD of Miami going into half until Pickie did his thing, had us in the Pitt game until special teams, and had us in a game with Tenny aside from scoop 6 and a late TD.

Only Duke and SMU burned us in the first half, aside from that our D was good enough every game until our offense made it apparent we were no longer even going to accidentally score points. Did they quit in second halves or simply get worn down mentally and physically? Who knows? Do I disagree with playing a 2 LB system? Sure do. BUT it's hard to play 4 full quarters and have to try and play perfect with a corpse of an offense.

If a coordinator is to go it's Nixon... hard stop. The alone will make ERob better.

You're not wrong

The defense stunk too

With all due respect, this is an insane take and conclusion.

...after we were down already and it was apparent we weren't scoring 14. That was my point and all the actual on field plays I referenced. In our losses we threw 4 pick 6s, gave up 2 return TDs and 1 scoop 6. That's 7 TDs we directly spotted without defense on the field before we even get into all the other turnovers. Angeli was 10/2 TD to Int ratio and we were 3-1. Post Angeli QBs were 7/13 TD to int ratio and we were 0-8... our other QBs threw 7 TDs to our own team and 4 to defenders. Of those 7 offensive TDs 2 were I'm garbage time also

Last year the defense stunk as well and our offense was one of the best at time of possession. You can’t use the excuses that they “were always on the field” and “they were demoralized that the offense can’t score.” Our defense has just been flat out bad for two years. This year we lacked any semblance of offense so it got magnified whereas last year our offense masked a lot of the warts.

Which is interesting as I've given specific plays and data as to why it's not. What's insane about it?
You give the defense credit for playing well up until a certain point in games. Those are weak data points when confronted with the aggregate performance over two seasons, which has been statistically and objectively poor.

The offense this season was abysmal after Angeli went down. But through 16 games, Jeff Nixon had the best passing offense in college football, and performed at a level unfathomable to our program. Meanwhile, for 2 straight years, ERob's defense for the most part sucked.

So yeah, it's nuts to me that you came to the conclusion that Nixon, the one that showed the ability to perform at a higher level than we have ever seen on Syracuse history, is the one that should get the boot and Robinson, who has had below to very below average defenses for two straight years, is the horse to bet on.

Oh the offense was historically bad. However, the D was still bad this year, even taking that into account. Not enough talent and very young, combined with a scheme that I still can’t even figure out if it’s even a scheme

That's fair and fwiw you are and have been one of my favorite/most respected posters for many many years and counting.

Perhaps the sting of the last 8 games is clouding my overall head set on the team.

That said, is it not reasonable for an elite OC to come up with something at least capable of points without a ready made QB pulled in with Fran's jersey connections? Apparently we've whiffed on all HS QBs the past 2 classes and 1 transfer and that needs to at least somewhat fall at the OCs feet.

Maybe we get an allusive capable OL coach and that alone fixes it? Our running game has been putrid as well but LeQuint masked that last year against light boxes thanks to Kyle. We can't be a one trick pony contingent on only qb1 every year and consistently expect 10 win seasons.
