Interesting Twitter chatter

I'd give the keys to the city to Brad Stevens.

I have been saying this for a few yrs. I have resigned myself to Hop's inheriting the job, but Stevens has been excellent.

Rick Pitino? anyone...anyone? He is a JB guy but its so far removed I mean. Pitino in the ACC stickin it to Coach K! Not that L'ville is a bad job but the school is on unstable grounds conference wise.

(don't take it seriously folks, just having some fun throwing names out there)

I won't even care who the next coach is.I will probably take a vacation from SU basketball if they fire him.

Not me.

Me neither. His style doesn't match with the run and gun that the Dome crowds eat up. Billy D or Sean Miller or Jay Wright or someone of that ilk are much more appealing to me.

Oh, and they did mention Mr. Pearl too. It would never, ever happen but they think he would do amazing things here. I personally wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole.

I just found it interesting how big the names were that they were chatting about.

Agreed, apparently the outside 50,000ft view of Syracuse is that it's a top 5-10 coaching job. Which honestly I didn't think was the perception, I thought people viewed SU as JBs program and expected a big drop when he retired. I'll filed this as meaningless, slightly positive news from the day...because it's still Hopkins unless everyone is out.

The guy took a team with high school talent to the NCAA finals 2 years in a row.

lol. He did do that.

I will never forgive him, Butler, Calhoun, and UConn for the show they played last year in the championship game. Never! I don't care how irrational it is. I've seen Donkey Basketball games played at a higher level.

Miller has the number one recruiting class in the country coming in next year and he has Zona on a roll, he isn't going anywhere. I still think we have 4 more years of JB regardless.

Hope you're right about JB!

If [when] he survives this, I think we could see a situation similar to Uconn / Jim Calhoun a few seasons ago, when he was contemplating retirement but didn't want to end his career on a negative note and continued to coach for several more seasons.

Would love to see JB coach 4 more and approach the 1000 win mark.

I like Jay Wright, but does he have a run n gun style? He runs the burn offense (as in, burn out the clock).

Billy D is a cheat.

Yes, you are right about Wright. I just have always liked the guy. Think he would be a good fit. And I have no doubts about Billy D but if you ain't cheatin', you ain't tryin' these days. NCAA has proven to be beyond toothless anyhow.

It will be Hop, unless everyone goes, but everyone tossing out all these names just like they did when we were looking for a football coach have to keep in mind that SU pays about 1/3 of what the top coaches make.

If we clean house, I'll take Scott Drew, thank you very much. Been a huge fan of his since he coached Valpo against us years ago. Loved the way his team played, and he can recruit.

anyone care to guess who the source of that story was? Pretty easy if you ask me.

people need to read the 4th paragraph over and over.
For those that are too lazy to click the link...

A source familiar with the situation said Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins plans on succeeding Boeheim as head coach whenever Boeheim steps aside as Orange coach, due to an "iron-clad contract" that was revamped and approved by the board of trustees two years ago.

plus they play the 2-3 zone at Baylor, no?

Did everyone that said they want Stevens as our next coach watch the National Championship last year? I would rather gouge my eyes out than watch that style of basketball for 30-40 games a year. And people bitch about our football offense...

JB has a contract also... If they fire JB. the whole current staff goes.
100 percent agree, every1 will b out ... and would love to see Brad Stevens

Its strictly twitter chatter between Gottlieb and another CBB writer (dan wolken), but they are going back and forth on who they think would replace JB IF the unthinkable happens.

Names that came out of the convo: Sean Miller, Billy D, Ben Howland

They didn't think Beilein was a big enough name. Its completely meaningless but interesting nonetheless.

All of that said, I hope it never comes to that.

This is an interesting conversation.
Where are we as far as basketball jobs?
Kentucky, UNC and Kansas are in a class by themselves.
Duke and UConn? We'll see after K and Calhoun retire. I think they'll both be fine.
Indiana, UCLA, MSU, Arizona. Maryland (theoretically)? Ohio State and Louisville.

We are always on tv, usually ESPN/ESPN2. We get the Gameday treatment. Biggest or 2nd biggest average attendance year after year. Melo Center. History and tradition. Past and current NBA players.

Our biggest positive is a stacked team this year and next. What coach wouldn't want to walk into a situation with our lineup next year?
We would pay.

Brad Stevens would be my choice. I think he'd listen. But I think Hop is going to be great. He has the perfect personality for a modern coach. When JB is ready to go, I'm excited to see the direction Hop takes the program.

I feel that if Brad Stevens were here, the result would be a product that is very good, but would resemble watching paint dry. With all the unrest in football land, I love the fact that I am completely 100% happy with the state of 'Cuse coaching. Ugh... just hope this plays out quietly. However, I will say that I don't think the young assistants are at risk if JB goes. If he is fired, Hop would prob have to go too. Otherwise what's the point of showing JB the door. But the young guys haven't been around the program long enough.

I'm with ya. Style matters. Butler isn't exactly setting the world on fire this year by the way. I don't think he would fit here at all.
