Interesting Twitter chatter

I believe Cuse BB is in the top 4 or 5 in revenue...right there with UK and UNC and considerably higher than KU so it is a big time job. Any of these "name" coaches would cost at least $1m more than JB who is considerably underpaid by national standards. Donovan would be almost 3x his salary so no way for him. Howland's teams are as exciting as watching paint dry. Miller would be nice but it's a lateral move so unlikely he would be interested. Brad Stevens might be interested and the weather is no worse than Indy. I hope Hop would get it. Why should he be penalized...he had no role in this. Hopefully JB stays another couple of years.

My vote goes to Laurie Fine's balls being our next coach.

I'm sorry, that was inappropriate. They don't have the necessary experience to coach a high major team.

For those that are too lazy to click the link...

A source familiar with the situation said Syracuse assistant Mike Hopkins plans on succeeding Boeheim as head coach whenever Boeheim steps aside as Orange coach, due to an "iron-clad contract" that was revamped and approved by the board of trustees two years ago.

1. There has to be a buyout
2. If it is worded as when JB retires it could be an out for SU

I don't think JB will be fired. But if he were I would want Jay Wright. I also think you need someone who can connect with the fans. People will be pissed if JB is fired so you need a NAME guy who has personality. I wouldn't want him but think Majerus would be a good fit because of that.

We really pay that little? If we bring in more revenue from basketball than Kansas how could it possibly be that we couldnt afford a Billy Donovan?

UCONN after Calhoun goes, ehhh not so sure about them. Calhoun made them, they are Calhoun. I dont think we are Boeheim.

you mean her balls or the balls in her face?

The guy took a team with high school talent to the NCAA finals 2 years in a row.

High school talent?

Brad Stevens is a SUPERB coach because he took two good teams to the NCAA finals. But let's not pretend that he had 'high school talent'

Hayward was a lottery pick.

Mack was a late first/early second rounder.

Matt Howard will make a great living playing in Europe and will get a few shots at NBA rosters.

Veasley was a solid fourth option.

Stevens didn't recruit at a high DI-A level, but he identified diamonds in the rough that happened to develop into a great team that bought into an excellent strategy that threw other teams off of their games. But he didn't do it with scrubs, there was NBA and European talent on those teams.

I honestly doubt he'll ever duplicate what he did at Butler, just because you have to get extremely lucky having that many 2 star recruits develop into legitimate high DI players.

Plus, who the hell wants to watch his boring ass style 30 times a year. If I wanted to watch an "awesome" boring team, I'd be a Wisconsin fan.

eh, no thanks to Jay Wright. What recruits has he brought in lately?

What's wrong with Howland? He has 18 NCAA tournament wins in the last 15 years. Same number as JAB.

Nova had the #3 class two years ago. And he doesn't have the Fan Base, Dome, Melo Center, ACC, Brand, and History to work with.

billy D.?? LOL We can't afford him. Ben Howland. After he gets fired from UCLA. Nope. Sean Miller. I don't think he would leave for Syracuse. He might well be if jb is fired. Doesn't Hop have a contract that assures him the next job. he gave up a million a year at charlotte. think law suit.

If the unthinkable happens, sign me up for Jay Wright. He might be within the realm of the possible, because his prospects at Villanova are going to start going downhill as soon as Pitt & SU leave for the ACC, Calhoun resigns, and the TV contract comes up for renewal. All those things, plus the status / renegotiation of the BCS, mean that Villanova could look a lot like Temple or UMass in about 5 - 7 years. Jay Wright won't stay there if the Big East is no longer the best conference in the country. A Syracuse program with the Dome, the Melo Center and the ACC is a very desirable job.

Whose the guy at Xavier he seems to be a pretty good coach. I also think the Baylor coach would be a good fit but I don't think JB will go and IF he does there should be no reason for Hop. Sorry I just don't get why people are going for the jugular

Rick Pitino? anyone...anyone? He is a JB guy but its so far removed I mean. Pitino in the ACC stickin it to Coach K! Not that L'ville is a bad job but the school is on unstable grounds conference wise.

(don't take it seriously folks, just having some fun throwing names out there)

If there is one long shot guy that I would love to see, this would be it. I love how his teams play, and I think he could do magic here.

people need to read the 4th paragraph over and over.

I wonder how "iron-clad" that contract will be if it turns out Hop was one of the players that porked Laurie. ;)

Cheers,
Neil

Re: "iron clad"

Contracts are made to be broken.

And circumstances change.

That doesn't mean that Hopkins won't be the next head coach, but if a clean break is made with this staff, then he won't be--no matter how "iron clad" the succession contract might be.

I hate Pitt with the white hot passion of a thousand burning suns.

Only a thousand? You just got put on my 'questionable' list.

I hope we don't riot, but I'd be ok with our students taking a page from Hoosiers if JB is forced out and starting a "We want Jimmy!" chant.

Carry on.

JB didn't have seasons where his teams struggled to win 10 games. Howland has done that twice in the last 10 years.
